Hey, BioWare, I hope you keep watching this thread. It is so easy to kindle a love fest for the writers when we get a simple, honest, off-script interview like this. I understand Patrick Weekes is uncomfortable with the spin of the paraphrase. It might be worth asking him to compose fuller answers to those same questions that have the spin he would have preferred.

I think something like this from some of the other writers would be great, too. Why did they make the choices they made? And what was most surprising thing for them in the fans' reactions? So much of the rage has been made worse by BioWare choosing to present itself as a corporate monolith. We don't need to see internal conflicts, but getting some more human and frank faces out there is really the best type of PR. Trust your writers.

It's so much easier to maintain rage against a faceless corporation, just as it's easy for corporations to see angry fans as a problem to be managed rather than people who feel hurt and betrayed. People like Jessica Merizan who have been down in the trenches talking one-to-one with fans have been your best assets in all of this. Learn!

Based off of this, an easy out for the "trapped in Sol" problem is that everyone upgrades their ships with Reaper cores and gets homes within months using Super Saiyan FTL.

Unless you choose control / synthesis, then all the reapers just fly off :(

We also knew we'd have Vega
in order for new players to have someone dumber than they were.

This right here sound like a epic burn at CoD/BFers

Actually I think people are taking this comment the wrong way, when he said "dumber than they were" he is not referring to a character who is an idiot. What he is saying is that Vega is a "fish out of water" character someone they can use to explain older plotlines to new players such as the Genophage. Mac Walters stated pre-release that this was the purpose of James character, hence why he is so heavily involved in the early missions.

once again, that'd be an example of a paraphrasing by the fan trying to recall this interview from memory several hours after the fact.

That's right. James Vega is a needed character in ME3 for new players who need a Mass Effect 101 lesson to catch up with the entire story.

He's bascially a more fleshed out "memory test" from Mass Effect 2.

i was severly disapointed with the ending as well, this has given me hope that my favorite game series of all time doesnt devolve into epic garbage at the end. thank you.. CAUTIOUSLY optimistic.

as an aside, am i the only one who thought the only point of the stargazer scene was "dlc on the way, buy it for more stories of The Shepard!". felt very tacked on and the voice acting was just absolutely atrocious.

Just funny how many resources are spent on Kinect, Multiplayer and PS3 ports. That's why this game is terrible.

True.

ME3 might have done better with a 3 years for development and not 2. More funding from EA would have helped as well if they wanted to do it all.

They're probably given a budget by EA. They're train of thought was to bring more new features to the game than to introduce a couple of other gender characters. Which they even did that in the 3rd game. It didn't do them much good in the ending, though.

Hey Bioware...do you see how civil and kind everyone is being towards your writer here? Do you realize what created this atmosphere? An HONEST and OPEN answer to the questions we have been asking for over a month! Can you please forward this discovery to your PR department? kk Thanks.

They obviously didn't spend much time on the PS3 port, have you seen how terrible it plays? If there's anything they wasted their resources on, it's the MP and Kinect.

It could be that Bioware's public response was a tactical one with the express intention of pissing people off, hoping for the reaction that happened.. the logic being that it would give Bioware justification to push back at EA, who (in this logic) forced the bad ending in the first place. If so, well done!

Don't be ridiculous.  It isn't anything near that.  You do not admit that the end of your game is a collosal failure mere days/weeks after it is released.  You wait until you get all the sales you possibly can, then "address fan feedback" and get more.  Simple business.

I don't recall them admitting any such thing. They really haven't said much of anything. I'm not saying it's true, but I can see how it could be true, if Bioware was forced to do something it didn't want to do, and used the public to fight back.

I can't decide whether you just didn't comprehend a word I said or you just don't realize your response doesn't make an ounce of sense?  Regardless, it's poorly structured at the very least .  Let me break it down for you:

A) You think that Bio made a tactical decision to enrage the playerbase.

B) I said that is a ridiculous assertion.  The reason for the silence is because no company is going to admit any faults with its product mere days or weeks after release.  Of course they aren't going to admit that, it's simple common business sense.  Got it?

Bioware, as a company, is not going to fight it's parent company using the public as a weapon.  Make your conspiracies, that's fine, if they were at least partially based on logic that would be even better.

I think you're misunderstanding my point.

A) I'm not saying it's true. I'm saying that it's one explanation out of many that has a chance of being true. I'm not even saying it's likely.

B) I understood your point the first time, and I understand it the 2nd time too. It, however, is NOT a ridiculous assertion, even while being at the same time an unlikely one.

C) You say it's impossible, I say it's credible, if unlikely. You disagree, and I'm fine with that.

Anyway, I put my thought out there. Disagree if you like, I don't mind.

I just want to add my voice to the chorus of people that appreciate some actual, bona fide communication from Bioware. The difference between what this guy said and what the PR guys have been feeding us is night and day.

Also 14 LY/Day is described as being Top Speed and very fuel inefficient, and would empty the "tank" in 2 to 3 days. "Galaxy Wide Transport is impossible without the Relays"

No. Doesn't work. Bioware: Please FIX the endings. Clarifying Stupid only makes for shinier stupid.

I love it...from the stacks of bodies on the citadel, we were supposed to "interpret" that everyone important survived. We were also supposed to interpret those supernova explosions when the mass relays exploded, that could be seen from far outside the galaxy as the cut scene shows, didn't really kill anyone - even though the most advanced ship in the galaxy, when racing away at top speed gets trashed.

Yeah, this is clearly our lack of imagination at work...

Yeah. Well, maybe space magic touched those that Shepard thought about. They made it to kinetic barriers. And do you really think that ANYTHING on the Citadel could survive atmosphere entrance and impact? I doubt it.

So did I read there that the reason the "destroy" option also destroys EDI and the Geth so they could have some fake emotional attachment to the decision? Nevermind that the synthetic-organic thing had been resolved a few chapters back mind you - truly, if there was ever a signpost for bad writing, this is it.

If this is legit, I'm feeling better about the Extended Cut already.

Nice to know my Destroy option doesn't destroy all synthetic life (EDI, possibly the Geth).

they do.

did you skim man? ;p

uh nvm, i skimmed, clearly didn't understand the question.

wow really? she CAN?

Yeah, I thought it was a bug but it looks like it was intentional to have her survive. If this is true, is it possible that only the Reaper tech that Legion uploaded to the geth got destroyed? I don't know, just trying to think positively...

Then why does StarKid tell Shepard that he won't survive because he is partly synthetic? Unless we're suddenly retconn'ing that Cerberus rebuilt Shepard with Reaper tech?

I've no problem with them rewriting StarKid's dialogue. But if they refuse to change his dialogue ("artistic integrity!") & it stays canon, and then just contradict it arbitrarily because they realize it made no sense ... that's just more plotholes.

Amazing from the interview it makes it seem like the game was rushed due to "time constraints and resources." Such a pity if true. The final game of Shepards arc and its going to be flawed because I WANT MY MONEY AND I WANT IT NOW. Couple of things fix the Ken and Gabby bug. Thanks.
