Patrick Weekes is one of the best writers, but I don't think he wrote Garrus. He's however written other great characters such as Mordin, Tali, Traynor, Joker... For more details: www.bungie.net/Forums/posts.aspx

My bad, it was John Dombrow. Still love))

Glad he came along and clarified that the galaxy was not plunged into a technological dark age, and that nobody was stranded, and that the mass relays didn't go supernova. Hopefully that'll go a step further in the right direction and be shown to us in the expanded ending.

Also, assuming everyone important on the Citadel survived is already a "change" from Walters' "most died" tweet, even though it can be construed as a clarification. If basically everything gets clarified into a positive outcome this Extended Cut could indeed do the job.

He never said "most died" he said "bad times" which is very very vague.

Some of these statements give me hope...others, though...
Really, Mr. Weekes? Mass relays were unnecessary? The lore completely disagrees...

Just want to add to the Weekes love-fest going on here. From everything I've gathered, he seems like a stand up guy who really loves the ME universe and characters as much as the most passionate fans. Plus, looking at what his contributions to the series have been, he's a ridiculously talented writer.

I'll be following his career from now on, thanks to his work on Mass Effect. If he ever is a lead writer on a game, that's one I'm definitely buying.

Finally, Bioware, please take note -- THIS is the kind of communication and honesty which can restore some of the faith/good will you've lost with your fans.

The lore actually doesn't disagree at all.  Organics never had a reason to experiement with other forms of intragalactic travel because of the Mass Relays, but without them, they can and will come up with similar technology, assuming the Reapers don't rebuild the mass relays anyway.

Hoping that all this is genuine. I honestly believe if the endings hadnt have been so plothole ridden they might have been decent

on the one hand some of that stuff sounds good but on the other i just think, how the hell could they release the game and just assume we would know the difference between an relay overloading and rupturing... seriously!

This.

It's a recent a**-pull. They are ret-conning to sort out the mess.

The original writer(s) probably intended destruction, or more likely wasn't even familiar with the existing lore that destruction of Mass Relay = system annihilation.

To claim that they were surprised that people interpreted the ending in line with existing series lore is pretty ridiculous, and more likely it's Weekes playing nice by not openly criticising his co-workers.

EDIT: I kan't speel

I expect at this point a good amount of ret-conning to be done, if fans are to be pleased.

Aka... the only one I'm likely to try out other than Liara, eventually? (I mean it, it sounds legitimately cute, which really fits with how I see Garrus, but Alyna and Arya are spoken for... which is why I downloaded Michelle.)

Okay, so a total Nomancer through ME2 will go after Sam. Probably a Sentinel or Engineer. It seems right ;). But other than that...

Hmm, maybe also a Kaidanmancing maleShep, Meer's gotten so much better from the first game and I can DL a gamesave to avoid that game... Jack also sounds good though I'd really like to be able to mod a game for a femShep, but I'd like to see Grissom where Shepard gets punched THEN kissed, it just seems so right...

Yes, I'm planning multiple new runs through the games now. Almost exclusively as a result of Patrick's talking.

Dr. Ray, sir? Mister Hudson? Get this man talking to more people. It WILL save your company.

Another couple of things I've noticed ..

Both Casey AND Mac haven't updated their twitter SINCE 18TH OF MARCH.
Both of them would Tweet Multiple Times a day .. Once a Day OR AT LEAST once every couple of days..

Now they didn't Show up at PAX... They haven't Tweeted since 18th of March ... They haven't been involved in any interviews ..

I get the Feeling that they're just hiding in a bunker somewhere because they KNOW that if they come out and say anything, it will all be one big lie.

Like if someone walked up to Casey/Mac and played the Clip where Casey says the Endings will be Wildly Different and then showed the Video of a comparison of the Endings in different colours ... How could he Deny That? How could Mac deny that?

I personally have 0 respect anymore for both Casey and Mac considering they have Bunkered down (Restraining further hateful words here) and don't even have the Balls to make a Fan appearance and answer some Questions the Fans would put forward to them.

George Lucas Edited the Original Trilogy to much Disgust .. But at least he's come out and made statement about it and talked (Less talking and more Boo'ing and hateful comments Though I guess) to the Fans and 'Tried' to explain himself.

Casey and Mac are currently sitting in a respect Hole Deeper then George Lucas .. And Now that's Sad. I give mad props to Weekes and I really hope he and the other writers like John Dombrow can write some incredible pieces regarding this Extended Cut and blow Mac out of the Park and their work is the majority of what we see.

He mentions that without the relays there is still the possibility to travel with FTL and to improve it with Reaper technology.
But what is then with the Stargazer scene. It is thousands of years in future and implicates that people are sill not able to do space travel?
This is a contradiction.

Then why does StarKid tell Shepard that he won't survive because he is partly synthetic?

It's a lie in an attempt to keep Shepard from choosing destroy, the catalyst is hoping Shepards emotional feelings towards EDI, Geth and his own life will prevent him selecting destroy.

Asspull.

Unnecessary for interstellar travel.  Definitely faster and easier, but ships can travel between stars without them.  Things will likely suck for a while without them.  Probably cause some mini Dark Ages in some systems.  But I think the point he's making is civilization won't be destroyed without them.   Bent a little, maybe...

This is one thing that has me curious about the EC, to see what's going to be done about this.

It isn't a contradiction.  The stargazer was telling the child that it would take time for *him* to go into space, meaning he'd be able to when he was older.

=]  See, speculations again. I'm afraid we have to wait till Extended DLC and than...
1) do happy dance or
2) speculate more or
3) go away

They have probably been told to stay quiet by corporate PR.

Pretty much anything they say at this point is going to annoy fans. Bioware are putting the writers who still have a good reputation front and center.

The interesting thing is what will happen long term with their careers. Casey is probably much better placed than Mac, as he did the same job on all 3 ME games.

So wait they had limited resources and they had the money to send ME3 copies into space? Not to mention they wasted money on the kinect and multiplayer which they could have added the other species gender and expand on a alternate Rachni missions. Artistic Integrity my quad.

Why is everyone so short sighted on this forum ? It's almost hilarious.

Well, if there's one thing this interview proves, its that EDI surviving Destroy is not a bug, and therefore Starchild was at best mistaken or simply lying about that ending. Hopefully, the Geth survive too.

But the child also asks the old man about interesting things (species etc.) that can be found in universe. This implies that their planet doesn't have direct contact with other species, because they aren't able to travel in space.

Man...this Patrick Weekes guy...just...hand him the keys to the car, Bioware.

Pay for Casey and Mac to take a long vacation, somewhere tropical. Tell them it's been years since they just sat down, and that they've earned a rest. Give them a bottle of Tequila Se'Lai, and some emergency induction ports, and tell them to drink until they pass out on the floor of their cabanas, Ashley-style.

Then unleash the Weekes on the Extended Cut. We will all thank you for it.

QFT.  Also, you made me snort my soda all over myself.

Should be emerrrrrrrgency induction porrrrrrrts, though.  :P

I think we can all agree that the extended cut will do it's job. This isnt PR bull. This is the truth.

(unofficial statements from someone inside of the company are often more trustworthy than Official Blog statements done by the leads of the entire team)
