Just one question. How can I get alive EDI in Destroy ending?

Use her a lot and be nice to her in conversations. The ending scene with the normandy shows the crew you had the highest relationship with, not accounting for deaths or plot. It's a bug but it seems like they'll run with it.

This has been proven false, by the way.  There have been people that didn't talk to Garrus any more than required to and he still shows up in the final scene while the person they spent the most time talking to through the game did not.

Also, as a side note, when I initially beat the game, I chose Destroy and EDI got out of the Normandy at the end.  So I was left to believe that the Geth are also still alive.

So Bioware had extra time, and ME3 still ended up being rushed.

Resources, resources, resources... The main reason of why many content way cut out. Even at the ending. Such a shame. I wish they worked on this game for another 1 or 2 years, rather than selling us this unfinished product.

Nice interview, I'm glad there is still hope even when the Mass Relays have been destroyed.

I can't believe the cameltoe question was asked though. -_-"

Since theres now confirmation that Shepard survives and EDI survives the red ending then its not much of a stretch to think that the Geth would also survive and Space Casper is just lying to you about all synthetics dying.

The Reapers didn't shut down the mass relays because the Keepers interfered with that. (I wish I could've asked a follow-up here, it doesn't make much sense.)

I agee. It kind of skews Sovereign's goal in ME1. So basically, all he would've been able to do in ME1 was bring the Reapers in through the Dark Space Relay?

But regardless, Mr. Weekes is awesome. Thank you to whoever conducted the interview and a big thank you to Patrick for answering accordingly! I can (albiet somewhat begrudgingly) accept the current endings if ambiguity is thrown out and we're given closure and satisfaction! And, of course, more argument from Shepard.

Still not a big fan of the a, b, and c endings Bioware said we weren't gonna have but got anyway, but if a free "extended cut" of the current endings is all we can hope for, then all we can do right now is wait and see.

Again, thank you Patrick Weekes for bringing some illumination into the darkness!

Yeah. I hope so. He said Shepard, EDI, the geth and Reapears would die. But Sheaprd can survive, EDI too
Damn, this is the best news since my last playthrough!

Hey Bioware...do you see how civil and kind everyone is being towards your writer here? Do you realize what created this atmosphere? An HONEST and OPEN answer to the questions we have been asking for over a month! Can you please forward this discovery to your PR department? kk Thanks.

Quoting this because it's the truth. Now that I can stop speculating on a few things, I feel a lot better already. Doesn't mean I think the DLC will be good because I'm cynical by nature, but at least I'm not as angry as I was before reading this Q&A.

Plus it's really good to finally have someone talk like a human being and not like a cold PR machine.

Just one thing though, as I'm sure many have already pointed out: if you have to ask a writer all those questions because your ending didn't make any if it clear, then you failed at storytelling. Sad that it had to happen at the most crucial moment, ie the ending.

As I mentioned before somewhere, they should have had a 5 year development time cycle :D

Seems like my original assumption that the game was shipped intentionally unfinished due to pressure from unreasonable EA deadlines was spot on.

Thanks again, EA.

And BioWare, you are now forever known to me as EA-BioWare. The BioWare that made Neverwinter Nights, Baldur's Gate, Jade Empire, Knights of the Old Republic, and Mass Effect 1 is no more.

I appreciate the honesty from Weekes, but I wouldn't be surprised if he finds himself looking for work very soon. His "damage control" twitter responses seem to indicate that he is fearing for his job security.

Please EA-BioWare, keep him around. You need more developers and writers like him, not less.

Most of it makes sense to me except what he said about the Keepers interfering with the Reapers...? Uhm. Whoa.

I think what he is referring to is the bit in ME1 where Vigil explains that the Keepers eventually evolved so as not to respond to the signal that the Reapers send to open up the Citadel for them (because the signal no longer affects them) - as opposed to voluntarily being all like "NO WAY, **** YOU REAPERS!"

Anyway, this Patrick Weekes guy is a BOSS. I hope he takes lead on all writing duties for anything ME related ever in the future.

Though, I'd like to know who does Jack, cos she's awesome too, and they should get more work. So should the writer of Garrus and Wrex.

Firstly, its great to know the endings aren't as bleak as we originally thought. This stuff should've been explained in-game though.

Secondly, everything he says proves that what we saw in the endings actually did happen and weren't some kind of dream, putting a massive question mark next to the indoctrination theory's validity.

So...is it basicaly random who comes out of the Normandy? Having your LI come out seems pretty consistent for most people, provided the LI was on the crew.

I didn't get Garrus. I got EDI-Kaidan on synthesis and Kaidan-James on destroy.

I wonder how the game decides who comes out of there...

Loved Darth Maul, I can definitely see how they were trying to emulate him with Kai Leng, but they kind of failed. Honestly I think there should of been some quick time event battles with him, and some boss mechanics that follow that make sense. Maybe like the original darth maul from the ps1 or was it ps2 game?

But it makes a lot of sense. Why else would Sovereign try such a desperate act? If the Reapers could just FTL their way from dark space anyway. Maybe they felt they needed to reestablish control of the mass relays, and failed. Cleared up a lot of confusion on my end. (Thank you Prothy's!)

My takeaway from this thread?

PR tactics are f*cking irrelevant. Seriously, most of them are designed to manipulate the consumer base to avoid damage to the company image yet, if what Bioware's been doing is called "damage control", it served only to infuriate most of us.

Then when someone FINALLY comes out and is honest and actually answers our questions, it's proven to be all we wanted to hear.

It's like current PR tactics used in damage control serve only to do more damage.

God I hate psychology.

-Why did we only get top and bottom dialogue choices, no middle?

Part of it was resources. Part of it is that Mass Effect 3 is a war story and it's really hard for Shep to feel middling about the Reapers.

So why did we get the green option then?

There is one thing I still wonder about. So, using the Mass Relays is bad, because it's Reaper tech, but reverse engineering Reaper FTL tech is okay? Because it's... not Reaper tech?  I'm speaking narratively of course.

I hope that they have a list of all this stuff for the team making the Extended Cut DLC. They do have their work cut out for them if they're going to try and fix the ending.

(Hinthint: Cut out the starchild)
(Or at least make him Harbinger I guess)
(Although Harby as Starchild seems remarkably... clever for a Reaper. I've always gotten the impression that they don't really see a reason to lie to or be evasive with the people they're wiping out.)

Also, how did the Keepers interfere with the Reapers locking down the relays?  Sovereign successfully locked down the Relays in ME1.  That was kind of a big deal at the end, you know, with wether you opened the Relays immediately to save the Destiny Ascension, or held off to focus fire on Soverign after the arms opened.
