you know in the DA section, writers and devs actually get involved with fans in the forums, sometimes having great arguments and flames wars, why dont ME devs spend more time answering stuff, or just showing up and chatting, would love casey to drop by and unload his opinion and defend his effort, there should be more openness and now, hell it dont matter, lets just talk about how good itsa gonna be etc,

We should start a Weekes fanclub and include him in all of our signatures. BW should realize that a bit of honesty would have prevented that PR nightmare and that their whiny fans are quite forgiving after all (if we are just told the truth).

This kind of honesty is both refreshing and reassuring. It's interesting to see the limitations under which they worked. He gives me hope for improvements within the extended edition, even though it's not what I really wanted.

So Bioware had extra time, and ME3 still ended up being rushed.

Imagine what it would be IF they didnt have extra time.

Much, much better? They changed the ending because of the stupid leak.

There is one thing I still wonder about. So, using the Mass Relays is bad, because it's Reaper tech, but reverse engineering Reaper FTL tech is okay? Because it's... not Reaper tech?  I'm speaking narratively of course.

I hope that they have a list of all this stuff for the team making the Extended Cut DLC. They do have their work cut out for them if they're going to try and fix the ending.

(Hinthint: Cut out the starchild)
(Or at least make him Harbinger I guess)
(Although Harby as Starchild seems remarkably... clever for a Reaper. I've always gotten the impression that they don't really see a reason to lie to or be evasive with the people they're wiping out.)

Also, how did the Keepers interfere with the Reapers locking down the relays?  Sovereign successfully locked down the Relays in ME1.  That was kind of a big deal at the end, you know, with wether you opened the Relays immediately to save the Destiny Ascension, or held off to focus fire on Soverign after the arms opened.

Either way it is a poor excuse.

This is good stuff and wasn't expecting anyone from Bioware to be saying much of anything. Finally got someone who manned up and didnt beat around the bush. Makes me want to play the game again and save it right before Cerberus HQ so when the extended cut comes out I can just start from there.

Please give this man a raise and make him lead writer. Tuchanka was one of my favorite subplots!

So Bioware was rushed AND didn't have enough resources for ME3.

...

Well... at least EA wasn't as bad as Lucas Arts was with Obsidian. Small comfort.

Sorry, I just can't read through the 35 pages of comments:
So EDI CAN survive the Destroy ending? It's the only version where Joker comes out of the Normandy without her. So I assumed she died just like the Geth (becouse of the reaper tech).

No they didnt, the leak had the same ending as the one we got... The "dark matter" plot was removed long before the leak in november

Strangely encouraging Q&A; Weekes seems to be thinking along the same lines as me for some of the 'solutions', which is nice. Indicates that at least Weekes, and probably the rest of the writing team too, are aware of the major problems with the ending. As long as they're involved with the EC, we hopefully should get something not too shabby.

EDIT: By the way, kudos for some non-vague answers for once. If someone had come on BSN and given their thoughts on the relays, EDI and such a few weeks ago, the mood would have been much improved, I think. Bravo Patrick! I hope you get lead writerdom on the next IP!

"Since theres now confirmation that Shepard survives and EDI survives the red ending then its not much of a stretch to think that the Geth would also survive and Space Casper is just lying to you about all synthetics dying."
Yeah. I hope so. He said Shepard, EDI, the geth and Reapears would die. But Sheaprd can survive, EDI too
Damn, this is the best news since my last playthrough!

Destroy ending here I come!

I only picked synthesis so that Garrus and Tali wouldn't starve 'n' EDI and the Geth wouldn't die, but since it  appears the space kid was indeed lying I'm gonna go blow that little **** up!

On the basis of beard alone Weekes should have been made the lead writer.

At that point, the Reapers would be completely inert. Furthermore, it's demonstrated (repeatedly) that reverse-engineering Reaper tech is dangerous (but for the chance for Indoctrination), but possible nevertheless.

No, sovereign shut the Citadel arms. There's no evidence in the game to support that Sovereign (or, more relevantly Saren) managed to lock down the relay network.

All of the Alliance navy that could have been mobilized to fight Sovereign already had been. What was at the Citadel was already everything the Alliance had. The decision to save the Council was about wasting Alliance resources to fight the geth, or withholding everything to fight Sovereign.

Oh, good news indeed! For the first time I believe that the writing team might have had a coherent idea for the ending. Definitely not one I craved for, but a passable ending. Bad luck it got rushed/cut/whatever and became depressing and somewhat nonsensical...

There's a still a chance that Extended Cut will correct that. Please don't screw it up, BioWare :)

Whow, that's bad. So the ending is to be taken at face value.

And "the keepers interfered with that" - yeah, lol. That's why Sovereign took direct control of the citadel. It shouldn't stop them now.

Seriously, it seems that after the departure of Drew everything's gone to hell.

I'm really encouraged by this. To Bioware PR - these kinds of Q&A contain next to no negativity about the product but generate goodwill about your company and product by respecting and communicating with your customers.

By itself this makes me feel happier with the ending and hopeful for the Extended Cut. Please take notes rather than the way we were treated when all of this first broke

Basically confirms what I was afraid of, EA rushed BioWare.

Also, Pat Weekes seems to be a bro. I really wish he'd been the lead writer.

After seeing this post, I have hope for the directors cut ending. Especially if Weekes has anything to say about the directors cut.

Isn't it amazing what a little clarification can do?  Instead of QA stonewalling everything we say...

This was wonderful.

i finally have hope for bioware again...

If that is true, then it seems to imply that Shepard CAN control the reapers, or at least it was never planned for the reapers to disobey Shepard's command.

Control definitely seems the best ending now, shame shep dies but its the ultimate sacrifice.

Build a new Shepard!

Like a synthetic mobile platform that he can assume direct control of.
