The endings were clearrrly rushed. The fact that htey didn't have Martin Sheen come into record til nov 11, says as much.

Not really, the problem is voice over stuff can be put in during a short timeframe. The line reading was probably done late so they can refine the script for the ending, and once it was recorded they probably rendered the whole scene within a week.

Plus, usually voice over goes through a LOT of ADR, especially at the tail-end of production and during post-production, so this is likely a case of that if anything else. It did affect the visuals of the scene because it had to be put in later, but they had a 2 month window to make that scene, and let's be honest, it was a pretty good moment in the ending.

I realize that this isn't official, but a few candid off-script interviews like this would do wonders for relations with fans. You feel like he gets our problems, even if he doesn't agree with everything. It's just human and honest. The cone of silence strategy wasn't smart.

Agreed.

Also +10 geek pts for the D&D reference.

It sounds like they got cheap on us with the lack of resources.  Also, it sounds as if they really intended that ending and it's not a dream.  In that case, I'll just have to get cheap on spending money on their products.  Too bad Bioware, you had potential.

So pretty much, Bioware was rushed.

That's what I got out if it.

I honestly could have waited until an end of the year release, despite ME3 being my most anticipated game of all time.

Galactic civilization will rebuild. The mass relays were not necessary for interstellar flight. Remember, what does it say in the Codex about the speed of ships? That's right, 12 lightyears per (day? hour? minute?). And that's only the cruising speed, not the maximum speed.

I believe it also says in the codex that without mass relays, it takes years, decades or even centuries to get to other clusters, depending on where you want to go.
With all due respect, sir, read your own codex.

People have never needed to research basic FTL improvements before because they have mass relays. With the relays gone, new technology will increase that speed. Additionally, the element zero cores of the dead/controlled Reapers can be used to improve FTL drives.

So I was right, the dead Reapers aren't fried.
Indoctrination for everybody! o/

Joker would never abandon Shep without a good reason. Hopefully this will be clear in the Expanded Cut.

Joker would never abandon Shepard. Period.

Yes. We would never, ever do anything that made the player feel, on replay, that it would be better for everyone on the Citadel if they just died.

That's exactly what you did.

The Citadel has emergency shelters and kinetic barriers - even if it blows up, millions might survive.

Did... did they all just forget where the Citadel was at that point? Low Earth orbit? Ring any bells? No?

You should assume that everyone plot-important on the Citadel survived.

No. I should not "assume". You show me. That's your job.

We want to provide a familiar, compelling visual experience for people who grew up on Star Wars and stuff like that. These are some of our favorite parts of the game.

No wait, really.....

Are you always this negative...I mean most of your posts here are just downright depressing. You may never be pleased, but could you maybe lower the torch for a couple minutes. I mean this writer is our only hope for a better ending. Hope I didn't come off as insulting just wishing for people to not burn everything before its even on the grill!
Much love,

This needs confirmation. Some of those answers are just throwing up red flags for me, particularly the Joker bit. He would NEVER leave Shep, and if there was something important it is not even hinted at. Not once. So how could they possibly expect us to understand that as is?

Just....I don't know. Bioware is so tight lipped the whole time, but somehow this guy risks his job to blab about the ending? Get on this internet!

why didnt this interview ask about indoctrination i wonder, especially since the theory is rather large with alot of fan backing (even bioware basically said it a pax), yet this interview has not one single sentance to it.

I smell fake....

What if someone gave him some lame yet motivational speech about how 'Shepard died, but YOU MUST continue the fight joker! go, get out of here!'

You can easily come up with a relatively decent sounding BS as to why he would leave.

IF they provided the said BS anyway.

And we better see the said BS with that 'extended endings' update.

I'm a realist. I appear negative because that's the impression the ending left on me.

You don't just destroy the infrastructure of the galaxy and leave people to assume it'll all get better.
You don't just destroy the Citadel and leave people to assume everybody inside is okay.

And so on. The last comment just made me facepalm, because if I want to see Star Wars I'll watch Star Wars.
The tactics in the codex would look awesome in game. Come on, ships making FTL jumps to appear behind a Reaper then blasting it in the ass? How would that not make for a great cutscene?

This is what I wanted to see from BioWare, a candid interview, which addresses the REAL concerns of the fans.

I don't know if you read that WHOLE post I quoted, but given some of the things that user says Patrick said.. I dunno.

(Mr. Weekes dropped a lot of hints that he really didn't like the ending. He also said something that was almost 100% verbatim from the Penny Arcade Forum post often attributed to him)

That PA forums incident was one that was VERY quickly swept under the rug, and with good reason (saving the job of one of the best writers in the team).
