The endings were clearrrly rushed. The fact that htey didn't have Martin Sheen come into record til nov 11, says as much.
Not really, the problem is voice over stuff can be put in during a short timeframe. The line reading was probably done late so they can refine the script for the ending, and once it was recorded they probably rendered the whole scene within a week.
Plus, usually voice over goes through a LOT of ADR, especially at the tail-end of production and during post-production, so this is likely a case of that if anything else. It did affect the visuals of the scene because it had to be put in later, but they had a 2 month window to make that scene, and let's be honest, it was a pretty good moment in the ending.
