When Patrick mentions resources I'm 90% certain he means in-engine allocation not actual development time.

I realize that this isn't official, but a few candid off-script interviews like this would do wonders for relations with fans. You feel like he gets our problems, even if he doesn't agree with everything. It's just human and honest. The cone of silence strategy wasn't smart.

Agreed.

Also +10 geek pts for the D&D reference.

D&D does suck....now AD&D that's a real mans game.

I take everything I read online with a grain of salt, but this... seems like it's legit.

If so, then that was a very entertaining read. My personal feelings about BioWare aside, Weekes seems like a very talented and outgoing man.

Seeing as much as he mentions budget and time/data restrictions, I can't help but wonder how ME3 could have looked with a little more time for development.

Most of it makes sense to me except what he said about the Keepers interfering with the Reapers...? Uhm. Whoa.

I actually missed that. Perhaps my brain refused to acknowledge it on the basis that it might implode, seeing as it makes even you do a double take. :pinched:

Nice to know I can get through to you. <3

This needs confirmation. Some of those answers are just throwing up red flags for me, particularly the Joker bit. He would NEVER leave Shep, and if there was something important it is not even hinted at. Not once.

All I can think of is that there was some event that caused Shepard to tell Joker to leave the sol system (after having picked up Shepard's team.)

It sounds like they got cheap on us with the lack of resources.  Also, it sounds as if they really intended that ending and it's not a dream.  In that case, I'll just have to get cheap on spending money on their products.  Too bad Bioware, you had potential.

I think by lack of resources he meant lack of hardware resources, not financial resources. To clarify, all three of the ME games have been restricted greatly since they have to be able to run on the outdated/underpowered consoles(PS3/XBOX360).

why didnt this interview ask about indoctrination i wonder, especially since the theory is rather large with alot of fan backing (even bioware basically said it a pax), yet this interview has not one single sentance to it.

I smell fake....

it's pretty clear to everyone except hardcore IT people that it was not intended by Bioware.

Hey mate, i enjoyed the ending originally (except normandy part) but then i saw the indoc theory and it just made much more sense, especailly after i played Me2 and 3 again.
But when i listen to "an end once and for all" when it gets to the normandy scene i just picture harbinger and some reapers trying to outrun the control wave instead.
BUt really indoc theory would make a more interesting and better ending, since the mass relays stay and the whole galaxy doesnt get nuked.

Wait a minute wouldn't researching ways to travel faster via FTL take time? Time that millions/billions don't have before they starve/die of disease/kill each other.
Also CHUNKS OF A 13KM STATION CRASHING INTO THE EARTH WOULD KILL EVERYONE.
And if the Citadel is a giant mass relay doesn't that mean a giant relay explosion? Hypernova?
Wait they cut out the Reapers taking over? WTF?
The keepers stopped the Reapers from taking over..... WHAT.THE.****.IS.HAPPENING?!
EDI survives somehow even though she's made of Reaper tech. Seriously am I dreaming this?

I had hopes for this extended cut but now.... ugh.

It's pretty clear to me Joker isn't bailing unless Shepard tells him to, so yeah. I think even if Hackett ordered Joker to it would be....problematic.

A retcon I have speculated since release that they went with. The Protheans not only disabled the Keeper signal, but the Citadel's ability to shut down Mass Relays. Yes, there's that line in ME1, but it's not the only line in ME1 that is disregarded. And it makes ME3 make a bit more sense. Explains why the Reapers didn't just attack the Citadel straight away.

Wasn't trying to diss IT people at all, I think it's a really cool idea and, if true, would have been a spectacular mindscrew by Bioware. And yes, I'm all for any ending that doesn't destroy the relays. I just think by now it's clear it was not intended.

3. The Citadel:
Argh! unless the "petal" bits of the Citadel somehow have their own engines and life-support to keep them from crashing to Earth in the Synthesis and Destroy endings; EVERYONE IS STILL CHUNKY SALSA IN A CAN. Crashing to Earth in something that massive is going to hurt, a lot.

We know at least that this answer is real, from yesterday.
It seems they completely forgot where the Citadel was. Did they not at least storyboard it for the writers? I find this really hard to accept.

Yeah, and I posted the same thing in that thread talking about it. And it seems that they did totally forget where the Citadel was orbiting.

Shaoken wrote...

Perhaps they float and have mass effect parachutes? Or auto-correct their course to stay in orbit.

I still have trouble imagining the "petals" being able to take re-entry real well, but eh, they can explain it I just want to know HOW.

And you wondered why EA got the prize of worst Company in America. It doesn't matter how much money ME2 makes, EA still will cut corners and avoid paying for things if they absolutely don't have to so they have more money in their accounts.

Are you always this negative...I mean most of your posts here are just downright depressing. You may never be pleased, but could you maybe lower the torch for a couple minutes. I mean this writer is our only hope for a better ending. Hope I didn't come off as insulting just wishing for people to not burn everything before its even on the grill!
Much love,
Camcon!<3

I'm a realist. I appear negative because that's the impression the ending left on me.

You don't just destroy the infrastructure of the galaxy and leave people to assume it'll all get better.
You don't just destroy the Citadel and leave people to assume everybody inside is okay.

And so on. The last comment just made me facepalm, because if I want to see Star Wars I'll watch Star Wars.
The tactics in the codex would look awesome in game. Come on, ships making FTL jumps to appear behind a Reaper then blasting it in the ass? How would that not make for a great cutscene?

Thing is he is trying to fix it. It's obvious he really didn't have much to do with the ending. He is trying to fix it. Can we wait until we see it to begin the grilling?

If this is real....why isn't this guy in charge? He's mostly candid and honest and he seems to have his head on straight.

Yeah, it really does sound like time and budget constraints killed the ending. Now they have a second chance. We'll see if they actually use it or continue to insist on "cutscenes only."

This just makes me hate the crappy consoles even more, but I also feel that if they had 1 more year on this game, they could have acomplished so much more. I just have this bad feeling that EA is behind much of the issues. I know I might be paranoid, but still, it just feels that way.

Guessing since the guy forgot what Patrick Weekes said about the Keepers, it was actually a part of the Prothean scientists' plan. If they found out how to manipulate the Citadel, maybe they found out how to keep the Reapers from controlling the Mass Relays. Yeah, it's not entirely solid, but it's a decent enough retcon that I feel a little better about it.

And being being Reaper tech...partially... I can kinda see it since she was built by Cerberus, wasn't she?
