There will not be another game to extend Shepard's story. ME3 is the conclusion of Shepard's tale, and while there may be future games in the Mass Effect universe, they will not feature Shepard as the protagonist.

I would not even want another Shepard game, it would push the ME universe toward tedium. I do hope they do release more games in the ME universe, but with a different protagonist or selection of protagonists. I wouldn't mind more development toward many of the alien species, so games centering around an alien protagonist such as a Salarian or a Turian or hell maybe even a Yahg, would be most welcome. A descendent of Saren Arterius, for example would be interesting.

One of the biggest reasons I want them to continue the ME universe is the fact that it is the only game I know of that includes many modern scientific theories. This game is incredibly progressive considering the time period we live in and I find that very alluring.

By progressive I mean it's portrayal of Artificial Intelligence as "synthetic life", a very open-minded approach considering we haven't even developed AI yet. It could be a very real issue in the near or distant future. It doesn't portray aliens as overtly "alien" but as similar to humans, for example they wear clothes (which is surprisingly uncommon in most fiction) and have many human tendencies, or rather sentient tendencies which I have always thought any extra-terrestrial might have.

There is even a mention in ME3 by EDI that if one were able to travel out far enough, would one experience a completely different reality of physics, maybe so much so that it is unrecognizable. That's a real scientific theory, although I do not know its name. The use of dark energy as a method of faster-than-light travel also makes more sense than any "hyperspace-wormhole" bs that seems to be prevalent, seeing as how dark energy is fueling the accelerating expansion of the known universe.

I also was quite pleased that they tried to be adherent to current (and reasonably extrapolated) science... of course they have to guess at some things since we, in RL, don't know various things yet, but :)

We'll see when it comes to ME4-6. If they chose, I think they could make a really good 2nd trilogy involving Shepard... one can point at various (book) series to see examples of where multiple chained trilogies can work. I suspect when push comes to shove, they'll do exactly that.

As I've said before, an even easier solution would be for the writing team to have their priorities in the right order. What does everybody have against Casey Hudson and Mac Walters, apart from a (very) regretable lapse in judgement regarding the ending? They contributed material to everything else, particularly Tuchanka and Rannoch.
I'm not trying to defend them, I'm just amused by the speed at which people jump to conclusion.

I don't have anything against them at all.  They've definitely added a lot to the franchise.  However, I'm sure we'd all be much happier people if they'd had some sort of QA on the ending, rather than a closed door brainstorm that resulted in... well, this:

The day someone makes this guy the lead writer or producer of any future bioware game, is the day where we will see some of the most epic games bioware has created.

This!

Just realized that the stories which Weekes were involved are far the best in the game! And his really a nice guy. Absolutely a guy who represent everything that once made all of us fall in love with BioWare.

I think he's the first dev who has ever said "sorry" since this debacle started. :o

I'm guessing it's something given to him at PAX. Dunno on that, though.

Shaila and Parasini not showing up just annoyed me. Especially after their ME2 appearances. They both seemed like characters that were being set up for something special in ME3, only to never show at all.

Penny Arcade article about Bioware at PAX

It's a nice article, and after watching the pax conference for myself on youtube, I question the accusations that the bsn has launched at bioware. All of it seems spawned by not getting a complete overhaul but a retcon instead, which is fine with me, but apparently because of this people have been given a liscense to lie on these boards, just to prove that bioware isn't a good company anymore and that mass effect 3 sucks in it's entirety, I have seen the 95% argument shoot down first hand by many hold the line supporters.

It's very fox news-esque, we have a retorique and a narrative we want to sell, now lets make the facts show that narrative. Completly backwards, highly unethical in this society where facts from pundits and opinion leaders do not generally get checked. Completly expected though, since it happens on every level in the news media, and they are supposed to have a lot more responsibility than someone on the internet.

Mostly agree. There is much more emotional hate from some players than I've seen before. It seems louder than what I saw when ME2 was current.

Over all I'm not satisfied with the current endings, as I think they leave too much unexplained. The summary interview with Mr Weekes in the OP gives me hope for the extended cut too. The galaxy isn't destroyed and hits that maybe we'll get better sense of what happens to our squad mates, companions, and LI.

Oh and Kanon777, Kaiden was the right man for me. ;)

3. The Citadel:
Argh! unless the "petal" bits of the Citadel somehow have their own engines and life-support to keep them from crashing to Earth in the Synthesis and Destroy endings; EVERYONE IS STILL CHUNKY SALSA IN A CAN. Crashing to Earth in something that massive is going to hurt, a lot.

IN the art book, there is imagesof the citadel having numerous mass effect field generators that could help it shrug off entire fleets worth of  firepower. Wish they included even a passing image. might have cleared things up more..

Looking forward to seeing how this all plays out. The interview in the OP was good enough to confirm a few of my suspicions, so that helped.

It may only be Patrick Weekes speaking, and not Bioware, but he isn't so dumb as to say things he knows won't be happening in the Extended Cut.

But, we just have to wait and see...

As for the original post... that's mostly stupid.

"Oh lolzzz their ships can still make it back home" yeh.... okay

"lolzzz no the galaxy rebuilds"

You can come up with BS for any stupid ending ... or you can man up and take the fans indoctrination theory, it's the only way to actually fix this giant mess.

Man, when did you guys decide to rush out a game that was supposed to be the best game ever?

So, has the Starchild been harvesting duct rats all these years? Is there a precocious, scuffed-knee lil' Reaper hiding somewhere within the Citadel?

Allright, this answeard a few questions, but why in hell was not this "explaiend" in the game or something, come on BW the plotholes are right there, EDI surviving, the Citadel NOT getting blown in to small prices, how can we know all this? From what I could read it seamed rather oblivouse to you?

Great post but im am still puzzled, and sad to see the heavy budget cuts

The impression I get from the original posting in this forum, is that Bioware and its writers UNDERESTIMATED the intelligence of Mass Effect Players. It seems they did not think the players would see the HUGE plot holes in ME3's Ending(s). Or worse yet, the writers were not intelligent enough to see the very plot holes they were writing for the Ending(s).

Unless they intended the Ending to be a depressive one, which is the destruction of the Mass Relays cause galaxy wide destruction of civilizations. Believe it or not, I am actually fine with this dark ending, BUT not how it was achieved via end dialogs with Hologram Kid (aka Starchild). In my opinion, Bioware should get rid of the Hologram Kid (introducing a new character at the very end of a story is VERY BAD story telling. Any script writer/novelist/etc. should be able to tell you that.).

Also, Joker going effectively AWOL at the Ending(s) without a good explanation is another example of bad storytelling.

It should now be obvious to Bioware that there are so many problems with the current Ending(s) that they should redo it.

Alas... As you all know, Bioware is keeping the Ending as is. All they will be doing is just be extending it. In other words, they are going the "Clarify" route. I wished Bioware would have listened to its fans and completely redo the Ending. All Bioware is doing is extending an Ending that already sucks.

I hope Patrick Weekes and all the writers are involved in the ending DLC. Not just Walters and Hudson like last time. There's lots of talent at Bioware and I'm optimistic.
