Just wanted to say I loved talking to this guy today. He has a lot of great ideas and cares a lot about the IP. It was really refreshing.

Hey folks, these are my notes on the conversation, as posted to SomethingAwful from my memory of the conversation hours after the fact. I had no recorder and no notepad because I didn't expect to have this opportunity at all.

This was NOT a formal interview. Patrick was incredibly saintly, generous, and kind - he simply stood with a group of fans along with John Dombrow and talked to us after the panel on BioWare comics. He spoke in good faith.

I shouldn't have said some of the things I did in the quoted post - particularly about Mr. Weekes not liking the ending. Mr. Weekes was extraordinarily courteous and understanding with his responses to fan inquiry, but he is also a valuable member of a team, and we shouldn't try to belittle other writers and lionize Mr. Weekes at their expense.

Every BioWare employee I met was polite, professional, friendly, and understanding. Mr. Chris Priestly did a wonderful job moderating.

I really don't want any of the content of this discussion to be turned against Mr. Weekes. I'm already feeling nervous about my decision to post it - I worry I betrayed his trust or confidence.

On the contrary, I think your interview has increased confidence in the series for almost everyone (not by a lot, but maybe enough on some degree.)

All we needed was for someone in Bioware to have a heart-to-heart with us in some way. Even casually talking feels like a heart-to-heart, and it minimizes stress big time. I know my body is feeling lighter right now than it has in the past month. That's saying something.

I haven't forgiven Bioware, but I'm feeling more willing to give them a second chance now. As long as Patrick Weekes is spearheading the writing on this project.

Out of interest, can anyone link or PM me the context of what Weeks "said" over at PA?

google "patrick weekes penny arcade post." first link will show the post.

Again, it is alleged and Chris Priestly said it was false per asking Patrick himself...but you know how that can go.

Don't forget that walkabout EDI is an avatar of the Normandy's computer. So basically it's a computer that can write its own algorithms, and part of the algorithms are code from reapers. EDI is not technically synthetic life like the Geth. I think that's the out here.

Thank you to the individual(s) who conducted this. At least we know have more information than Bioware actually gives us.

Great thread....and some more interesting info than I usually see on the forum....

But am I honestly the only one that can say that none of these would've been in my Top 5 Questions?....

How do you not ask about Starchild first and foremost?

How is Shepard alive in the destroy ending? Where is he?

Why could The Illusive Man control Shepard and Anderson?

Why the Crucible and not Dark Energy?

What about the many varying endings based on our decisions?(like ME2's Suicide Mission)

He seemed more straight-forward then the other responses we've been hearing from Bioware....but would he give me clear cut answers to any of these questions?

Probably not....but he would've said something that could've at least been "Speculated"

assuming this was liek a 1 on 1 thing, he probably needed to butter him up with soft questions.

at LEAST the interviewee addresses the normandy/citadel and inquires weekes about his general feelings on the endings.

not,

'hur hur who would you throw into the beam? i bet you found it funny, you think i m funny, i love your games, please think i m funny and know that i love your games'

Are you always this negative...I mean most of your posts here are just downright depressing. You may never be pleased, but could you maybe lower the torch for a couple minutes. I mean this writer is our only hope for a better ending. Hope I didn't come off as insulting just wishing for people to not burn everything before its even on the grill!
Much love,
Camcon!<3

I'm a realist. I appear negative because that's the impression the ending left on me.

You don't just destroy the infrastructure of the galaxy and leave people to assume it'll all get better.
You don't just destroy the Citadel and leave people to assume everybody inside is okay.

And so on. The last comment just made me facepalm, because if I want to see Star Wars I'll watch Star Wars.
The tactics in the codex would look awesome in game. Come on, ships making FTL jumps to appear behind a Reaper then blasting it in the ass? How would that not make for a great cutscene?

Thing is he is trying to fix it. It's obvious he really didn't have much to do with the ending. He is trying to fix it. Can we wait until we see it to begin the grilling?

I'll stop the grilling when I can have my little blue babies/adopted krogan babies/cute Shenko babies. Without committing galactic genocide. In that order.

*shakes fist*

I'll make you a deal: When the extended cut DLC comes out, and if the destroy ending has blue babies, send me your Shepard's save file and I'll do all the endings for you, and then recut the ending cutscenes so that it looks like you chose another ending and still got to reunite with your team.

It's not optimal, but maybe you could accept it in your head :D

just like 99 percent of the problems that caused the endings to be so poor, the normandy 'running away' could have been EASILY qualified with them not 'cutting stuff' in lieu of more 'speculation'.

It has been mostly postive so far, thanks for giving me( and others?) some hope that bioware can salavage the ending.

I disagree. The interview clearly wasn't transcripted properly and the author did his own interpretration of what Patrick Weekes said. I thought it was obvious that the transcript was skewed for a certain agenda, yet people here believed in it wholely.

If it`s legit, Weekes might have some plot hole stoppers by tying up previous plotholes and maybe generate a few smaller ones we can forgive

Looks like he has more of a clue then humpty&dumpty, tho fixing their nightmare ending sure must be a challange for the "new" team if they dumped those 2 morons off it who created this mess in the first place heh

Still not holding my breath, but my money and done with any company that claims they are working with "artistic integrity" bullsh!t

I wish we could get Chris L'Etoile and Drew Karpyshyn back on board, but you can't have everything, I suppose.

It sounds like they got cheap on us with the lack of resources.  Also, it sounds as if they really intended that ending and it's not a dream.  In that case, I'll just have to get cheap on spending money on their products.  Too bad Bioware, you had potential.

I think by lack of resources he meant lack of hardware resources, not financial resources. To clarify, all three of the ME games have been restricted greatly since they have to be able to run on the outdated/underpowered consoles(PS3/XBOX360).

This just makes me hate the crappy consoles even more, but I also feel that if they had 1 more year on this game, they could have acomplished so much more. I just have this bad feeling that EA is behind much of the issues. I know I might be paranoid, but still, it just feels that way.

Agreed on both fronts. EA is bad for business.  It still saddens me that Bioware sold themselves out to them.

The crappy console thing also gets me.  I don't know about everyone else but I think ME3 looked dreadful on the PC, graphically speaking ofcourse. What makes if worse is that if you look at some of the Unreal Engine 3 (ME's engine) demos, you see that ME could look so much better and have much bigger levels if it were PC exclusive...or at least if Sony and Microsoft produced  some next generation consoles.

Whatevs, on my PS3 I have a 55" Plasma and surround sound. No amount of texture resolution can match that epicness!
