So, I think this has been brought up before.....but several times  in the game, he says this down in the shuttle bay.  Now he COULD just be talking about the hum of the engines.......but in all mass effect somebody hearing things others don't is usually a sign of indoctrination.

Thoughts?

Speculation. From. Everyone. It's not brought up at any other point in the game so I'll say it's the engines.

According to the "Final Hours" app, the writers originally intended to have the player "lose control" of Shepard at some point in the game (read: Indoctrination). However, in November they scrapped that idea and settled on the ending we have. At that point in time, all of the hints and clues of the original ending became red herrings, as they didn't have enough time to redo all those scenes.

Cortez is indoctrinating the player to Bioware's evil homosexual agenda.  :P

Just because they removed the gameplay opton, doesnt mean that they didnt go with IT, hence that is why the hints are still there.

I remember seeing another thread a while ago on this exact topic, am guessing that's what Dresden is about to have a hernia over lol. I never read it myself but also reminds me on Palavan why he has to state that the air is a little thinner than he is used to, hence the puffing and panting that Shepard asks about. Just seemed odd to have those two comments at all.

The hints are still there because EA Games forced them to release in March in order to pad their 4th Quarter financial results. Obviously, that hasn't exactly worked out as planned.

Well Kaidan said the same thing next to the conduit in the Citadel in ME1... So maybe they're BOTH indoctrinated and agents of the reapahs, who've teamed up with Cortez to gay mShep so much he loses focus and is far too busy going "STEEEEEEEEEEEVE!!!!!" to save the galaxy.

ZOMG THE SPECULATION!!!1!one

It's not the engine noise because Vega has served on the ship before.  Either Vega or Shepard are feeling the effects of indoctrination at that point in time.

So, they originally were going to give us an amazing ending but instead gave us a s*** ending.  They left all of the clues in there to stir us up so we would talk about the endings.  This in turn would generate massive publicity for them.  They then decide to come up with an expansion.  Either they are going to honor their original intent or expand on that crap.  It they expand on the crap, I officially hate this company.

Funny he should mention that. I have no idea where it came from, but when I was replacing the extractor spring on my Phalanx pistol, a strange, vibrating cylindrical contraption fell out of the GunSmith's kit. At first I thought it was some new bore cleaner, but it was far too wide. And then I thought...

Wait a minute... that thing kinda looks like a huge...

Oh WHAT THE #%!!?? Cortez, is this thing yours? No? Vega?? No, don't you 'Loco' me!

Its the drive core of the ship, you hear the hum too if you listen. Vega is not used to being on a ship and the ones he has been one were all transporters that had much smaller drive cores then the one in the Normandy which is three times larger then ones in ships of the same size.

HVAC system

I've got a degree in mechanical engineering. HVAC systems don't really "hum". They typically produce more of a rushing sound. Fluids moving through constrained spaces behave that way. The only time any air quality system would hum is if was a small freestanding unit. And even then, it's the A/C compressor motor that hums. Aboard ship, having each compartment equiped with its own hvac unit (and in the case of a large compartment like the shuttle bay, several units) would be inefficient. Even then, you would lose enough heat to space for cooling to be less of a concern. Plus, the Normandy has a central life-support system, which implies a single, central HVAC system. Again, no hum.

Again?

Okay, I think you might possibly be grasping at emergency induction ports... ;)

Rather than make another topic when there's plenty I'll bump an old one, when I got this for Christmas and reached this point in the game I immediately thought indoctrinated and that's part of why you can't romance him. Vega plays a bigger part in the game that what it really shows, obviously that wasn't the case unless a DLC is released including the original ending that was abandoned but sounds better.Imagine, you're about to assault Earth and Vega arrives, saying he doesn't believe you should return anymore, trying to take shepard out from the inside. You have to fight him and your growing indoctrination. If that was the original ending it would have been incredible

No. The Indoctrinated "Hum" is more akin to the piercing sound you hear in the Mass Effect 3: Take Back Earth trailer. The hum that Vega and Shepard hear aboard the Normandy is different.
