According to the "Final Hours" app, the writers originally intended to have the player "lose control" of Shepard at some point in the game (read: Indoctrination). However, in November they scrapped that idea and settled on the ending we have. At that point in time, all of the hints and clues of the original ending became red herrings, as they didn't have enough time to redo all those scenes.

/speculation

Just because they removed the gameplay opton, doesnt mean that they didnt go with IT, hence that is why the hints are still there.

BAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAAH... oh you're serious.

Well... that's... dedication for you.

Did it take you 10 months to come up with that?

Nah, I just browse the recently replied-to threads, and usually reply to something on the first page. I just couldn't resist a post for something *that*... dedicated.

The armory/shuttle bay is under the drive core/engineering department. That's what he's hearing.

Also a humming/ring is also a sign of damage to the ears. Considering that Vega is a soldier and has been around his fair share of ear shattering noises like explosions, it wouldn't be surprising he'd have some complications.(My dad was in artillery during Vietnam, he told me they warned him about hearing problems from the loud noises)

I doubted it when I first heard him say that, but I'm not willing to take chances like that. If he is undergoing something reaper-related, I'll be sure to stress maintaining his own willpower and determination when he asks me about joining the N7 program. Simply telling him to go for it and to make Shepard proud might lead him on the path to manipulation.

Y'know, now that I think about it...its pretty strange that he got an anonymous N7 recommendation...

Dunno... what's the whispering Shep hears when he gets blasted by the Reaper beam in the beginning? Why does the VI interface in the Decision Chamber look so ghostly?

What the hell is Liara even doing at Shep's door?

All these questions and more remain unanswered....

Why would they go to the trouble of changing the plot because of one faulty game mechanic they can easily get around?

It's not the engine noise because Vega has served on the ship before.  Either Vega or Shepard are feeling the effects of indoctrination at that point in time.

Served on the Normandy before? Was it while he was guarding Shepard or when the ship was being retrofitted?

And yeah, because Normandy is full of Reaper artifacts. You know, the ones that are necessary for indoctrination.

Speculation. From. Everyone. It's not brought up at any other point in the game so I'll say it's the engines.

That's the point. It isn't brought up anywhere else, so it's deliberately put there pointing out the humming sound. And no, the devs didn't say "Maybe we should add a line to Vega about the engines being kind of loud."

It's either there for the failed indoctrination storyline they originally intended to implement, or part of the one that many people still beleive. Hell, maybe it's just both. But one things for certain, it was pointed out by Vega for a reason.

The hints are still there because EA Games forced them to release in March in order to pad their 4th Quarter financial results. Obviously, that hasn't exactly worked out as planned.

this is the best explanation I've seen for the hints ITers dig up. Kudos :D

The "hum" in question is a sound from the Collector Ship slowed down, btw...

well considering the normandy, both times, were basically built by cerberus. It's not impossible that reaper tech is meticulously hidden somewhere on the ship. Because that would explain a lot of things.

/end of speculation

Seriously, vega obviously pointed that out serveral times for a good reason, probably plot related. You hear the hum too when you're in the place, but that's not what's eerie about the comment. You normally talk to somebody several times in the game and they'll just shoo you away (calibrating, busy, another time, etc). Telling you there's a hum doesn't do that, it's just not right. There must be something more to the comment.

Sure. That's why everybody on the ship is hearing noices, voices and hums. Not

It's just Vega, his hearing is probably starting to fail him after that stunt on Mars

There are strange noises on the Normandy. They get more while the game progresses.

What's really crazy is that it's not just there. It's the "fog horn" sound the reapers keep making over and over and over. They keep doing it at the same interval. You hear it throughout the entire game - even when you're in space you can faintly hear it in the background.

It's like the reaper's "wail" is coordinated between them all like some bigass sync mechanism that reverberates throughout the entire galaxy.

Plus, I find that I unconciously tune the noise out. I can only hear it now if I really concentrate but it's almost always there in background.

So, they originally were going to give us an amazing ending but instead gave us a s*** ending.  They left all of the clues in there to stir us up so we would talk about the endings.  This in turn would generate massive publicity for them.  They then decide to come up with an expansion.  Either they are going to honor their original intent or expand on that crap.  It they expand on the crap, I officially hate this company.

I'd  say  yea  pretty  much, though  i  believe  The  rEApers had  something  to do with  it, if  Bioware had  enough  time  for development i feel it would of been  better and we'd of never  saw this whole  fiasco.

Funny thing about indoctrination symptoms is that they're pretty similar to insomnia symptoms.
And Shepard isn't sleeping very well during ME3. :)

Come on. It's not fun if I have to explain it

P.S. I was being sarcastic, the only thing that has "something" Reaper on Normandy is EDI and it's not artifacts

Too early in the morning for me to think about how true/false this maybe but interesing nonetheless :) Am sure if even mildly true the IT guys and gals will be all over it lol.
