All of the following occurred on my first (and so far only completed) playthrough of the game with my rogue, or original rogue at least but by no means my only one since I love the class.

I just feel I have to post and share because it's very rarely in my experience, particularly these days as an aging, hardened cynic, that something draws me in and toys with my emotions as much as this entire story arc did.  By which I mean the entire chain from defending Redcliffe to finally managing to discover that the urn did actually exist after all (Yes, I had my doubts all the way through).

The whole emotional rollercoaster with Isolde and Connor, having to resolve the Circle's troubles to attempt to save them both, the trail back and forth across Ferelden in pursuit of clues, all for me contributed to building up the drama perfectly and in all honesty is in my opinion some of the best storyline construction I've come across anywhere.

Then - finally - the ruined temple itself.  Brilliantly designed for me, the encounters, the life and death brawling with cultists (This was my first playthrough after all and believe me I wiped often) were just excellently done.

I entered the temple around 11pm my time, in hindsight probably a mistake, but having got there I was definitely not going to save for the night and simply walk away from the PC, so reinforced by caffeine in I went, and three hours later after the aforesaid wipes finally managed to meet up with Kolgrim.

I'd seen the Sacred Ashes video, so was under no illusions that there was a dragon involved here somewhere along the line, particularly given the hordes of dragon kin who'd already given me grief (three wipes to drakes anyone?) and so by this time I was going to explore and concentrate on this conversation like never before, anything to avoid finding myself in a fight with it

VERY carefully... I'm picking my way through what's being said, thinking about options, trying to choose as my character would and at the same time avoid having to end up as dragon appetiser, Kolgrim outlines his 'solution' and before I have a chance to reply or think.... cutscene...

Ohgren: "So if we do what this Kolgrim wants, does this mean we aren't hunting their pet dragon?"

(Me: "...")

Ohgren: "You're going to let this opportunity slip past you? Think of the glory....!"

(Me: "Nooooooooo!")

Kolgrim: "You would hunt our lady for sport?!"

Ohgren: "Aww... you'll find another one soon enough... what if we save you a wing?"

(Me: *dissolves in laughter*)

Kolgrim: "You...."

PC: (Stay silent)

Kolgrim: "You will pay for this insult!"

At that point I was quite literally crying with laughter, I have absolutely no idea how I managed to get through the fight that followed, laughing so much that I completely forgot the game even had a pause function, but get through it I did - somehow - cleaned up the loot and headed for daylight, trying to stop laughing and concentrate on what was to come, still absolutely dreading that damned dragon.  Cue cutscene as I exited, which made me even more nervous, and then this:

Ohgren: "A high dragon! A worthy opponent for the great Ohgren, wait till the boys back at Tapsters hear about this! *chuckles*"

(Me: *falls to bits again*)

That was followed by an extremely wary and nervous walk across the mountain top, expecting the damned thing to pounce any second, then another two hours through the gauntlet - still I have to say half expecting to find out that these Ashes were actually non-existent and the only real ashes were those of anyone fool enough to go looking and find a dragon waiting for them with a self satisfied (and hungry) grin on its face as yet another fool pilgrim arrives for dinner.

Finally, almost 5 am, very tired but extremely satisfied, I find they DO exist, Alistair and Wynne are having religious moments, Ohgren surprised: "I thought she'd be bigger" and me totally emotionally drained, sore ribs from the laughter, and looking back on a storyline that for me will take some beating.  The design from start to finish, the voice acting, the writing, beats anything I've come across hands down, was an experience I don't think I would ever have expected to have, and certainly won't forget in a hurry.
