I play as a Vanguard and normally prefer Garrus and Kaidan (or Liara) as my squadmates. However for this mission I have to bring EDI. I'm just curious if anyone has any recommendations of who is the best squadmate to pair with EDI?

Combat wise, EDI replaces Garrus. You can still bring Kaidan or Liara if you are used to that setup. Liara is imo the best squadmember for Shepard. You can bring her on any mission and she is equally deadly and effective, especially if you are playing a Vanguard.

You could bring Kaidan/Ashley for story and conversation.

True, I like bringing Liara because she has Warp/Warp Ammo which my Shepard doesn't have unfortunately

I wouldn't say that EDI replaces Garrus. In fact I prefer Garrus and EDI on this mission for dual Overloads and an extra sniper rifle. Overload is probably more useful in the final fight anyway, especially since it is difficult to actually detonate anything on Leng, and once his shield is down you can practically one-shot him with a decent weapon.

I have also taken Kaidan and Liara and they are fine as well.

Double Overload maybe useful for umm some class but.. 

 OP is a Vangaurd. Vanguards decimate Kai Leng like a paper doll. Even if you do not nova his arse, Shotguns rip his shield and health apart, once his shield is down, he will die in a single shot to the face or 2 heavy melee (I prefer to melee him , that's for Thane you sob).

So for Vanguards, bringing Liara allows you to stasis Phantoms. And detonate Liara's Singularoty will take down his adds in literally seconds (if you choose not to "cheat" with Nova)

I'd recommend Liara, also. Stasis, Singularity and Warp takes care of the adds and phantoms, leaving you and Edi (with Overload) to take down Kai Leng's shield. If you've learned Tali's Energy Drain power his shields would be down pretty quick regardless of what class you are, I think. Might depend on power recharge speeds.

I went with EDI and Liara, and you were definitely right about killing Kai Leng as a Vangard it was a piece of cake (EDI and Liara died several times, but Liara definitely helped with the Banshee's).
