maybe its just me, but the some of the dungeons are just way too long. like finding the ashes of andraste, or the tunnels in orzammar. i spent roughly 5 hours on each of them. I was wrecked by the end of it, it was so boring. im more used to the dungeon sized of say, Kotor or mass effect.

I agree. I think they should have broken those sections up a bit. So it is not as much endless combat.

Some minor story revelation/hook, dialogue,  exploration without combat, more of an urban area or change of pace to something non combat.

I liked Redcliffe's structure. Initially there is an urban area with some sidequests and memorable characters and the mystery of what happened in the castle. You sneak in and meet Jowan and clear a floor. There is variation with meeting allies in the courtyard. And more dialogue and choices in the throne room when you meet Teagan and Isolde.

I just finished FFX and I found that to be much worse. At least in DA:O, you can do some positioning, there are little bonus thingies to be found, there's stuff to explore. Especially Orzammar was great, with Topsider's Honor and the Legion Armor and letting Dog search everything. Was sufficiently diverse for me.

In FFX, it's "Go up the mountain" and you have to fight thousands of critters up until then.

Temple Haven for me was a great experience. The first time I went inside and reach some kind of altar with urns, I thought that's the end already. But no, it was deeper than that.

After having played those dungeons about five times...it doesn't seem long at all to me any more, mostly because I know what to do ..where to go, what to expect and my characters are built better. :)

The Deep Roads is supposed to be long and filled with darkspawn and basically a living hell that aims at making you suffer or at least trouble you a bit.

I do agree on the Haven temple being a bit longer than needed.

Dark Roads and Haven did seem a tad long on original play through but thats mostly cause you just fighting same stuff over and over for most part.

Just finished Dark Roads on this play through and wasnt half as bad as first time.

I actually could of handled them being longer but only if they offered up something new as a opponent. Otherwise if starts to feel to much like Diablo hack and slash dungeon.

The Deep Roads were quite boring. I didn't particularly enjoy any of the Dwarven campaign.

Not my favorite part. Very long, and very creepy. And the story about the broodmother, eeeerk !
Anyway, the worst is still the fade part on circle of magi.
I enjoy a lot haven temple, temple of the forest, ...

I like the length. Especially when you didn't know when it's ending or how long it is. All you are thinking is oh my God. It's a dungeon i'm stuck i so want to get out. Isn't that the whole point? I loved the deep roads cause it was sooooo deep.

It's not like diablo at all. I couldn't just hold on to left mouse button. I love the combat can't get enough of it.

The temple section actually reminded me of Icewind Dale 2 (now THERE's lots of unbroken dungeon crawls). I really enjoyed it, it was just about right in terms of changing terrain just as I was getting bored and giving me a few more enemy types to fight.

For every person that complains that the dungeon crawls are too long, there would be someone who would complain about them being too short if they weren't as long as they are.

I can't really agree with this b/c aside from the last section of orzammar there's a fair amount of transition points to jounrey back to sell at camp, buy potions, or take a break for a side quest. You're not forced to go through all 5 hours at once. I personally think the time just flies by & enjoy every second of it!!!!

Hm, I don't mind the long dungeon crawls. Would've been fun if there were some puzzles though, not just run around killing stuff.

I actually enjoyed the fade. It did get tiresome when I thought I couldn't actually progress any further because I didn't have the right form. Maybe it was because I did the Tower first, and the Dwarves last.

The whole game experience for me slowly went down hill, but I think it's because I was overwhelmed at the beginning by how great it was, and also because I was putting in 10 hours shifts. By the end of the game I was playing it 1 or 2 hours at a time, and not getting into it so much.

I agree, the mage tower was the worst for me.

I posted in a similiar thread about this, I would much rather have a lot of smaller parts than a few long drug out parts.

Wait. What?
There's no dungeon in mass effect o_O
The closest thing is the hot labs pursuing Liara mother. And it's just a couple of corridors nothing more.
We finally have something close a real dungeon and someone complains? ç_ç
I was greatly disappointed when I discovered that the deep roads where just 3-4 locations on the map.

I found the Deep Roads a bit tedious but quite honestly, I was expecting as much and would be greatly disappointed if it was any "shorter". After all there are supposed to be an endless dungeon crawl, corridors literally filled with darkspawn and very hard if not impossible to break through. The Ashes was a bit disappointing, since I expected a few more different areas on the map. At least the Gauntlet was a decent break from combat.

It is a hard balance to please everyone.

During development some people were wanting a longer difficult game. So they probably enjoyed an extended combat heavy dungeon crawl.

I found the dungeons, or rather, the deep roads and co. very entertaining. For example, take other games. Diablo or Morrowind. In Diablo, initially, the whole friggin' game is a one big dungeon! In Morrowind, there is a vast open world, but there are quest that will make you go in heckfully boring, dark and not even creepy dungeons. In Dragon Age you can see. I mean, look around. The size of the surroundings. Sometimes it's simply beautiful to watch the environment. The big temples, the ruins, the massive caves. That's what makes the dungeon crawling party interesting. I've finished the game 3 times now, played it 4 times and am playing the fifth. The only really boring part for me was the fade. That's it.

5 hours on the Ashes...really?

Im a roleplayer, l read every codex, listen to every conversation, scout out the enemies and traps...no way the Ashes could take 5 hours.

Orzammar yes, but that includes a City, side quests and several dungeouns.

Ld also suggest not doing an entire area in one sitting...l usually play 1-2 hour sessions.
