Some minor story revelation/hook, dialogue, exploration without combat, more of an urban area or change of pace to something non combat.
I liked Redcliffe's structure. Initially there is an urban area with some sidequests and memorable characters and the mystery of what happened in the castle. You sneak in and meet Jowan and clear a floor. There is variation with meeting allies in the courtyard. And more dialogue and choices in the throne room when you meet Teagan and Isolde.

In FFX, it's "Go up the mountain" and you have to fight thousands of critters up until then.

I do agree on the Haven temple being a bit longer than needed.

Just finished Dark Roads on this play through and wasnt half as bad as first time.
I actually could of handled them being longer but only if they offered up something new as a opponent. Otherwise if starts to feel to much like Diablo hack and slash dungeon.

Not my favorite part. Very long, and very creepy. And the story about the broodmother, eeeerk !Chezdon wrote...
The Deep Roads were quite boring. I didn't particularly enjoy any of the Dwarven campaign.
Anyway, the worst is still the fade part on circle of magi.
I enjoy a lot haven temple, temple of the forest, ...

It's not like diablo at all. I couldn't just hold on to left mouse button. I love the combat can't get enough of it.

maybe its just me, but the some of the dungeons are just way too long. like finding the ashes of andraste, or the tunnels in orzammar. i spent roughly 5 hours on each of them. I was wrecked by the end of it, it was so boring. im more used to the dungeon sized of say, Kotor or mass effect.
I can't really agree with this b/c aside from the last section of orzammar there's a fair amount of transition points to jounrey back to sell at camp, buy potions, or take a break for a side quest. You're not forced to go through all 5 hours at once. I personally think the time just flies by & enjoy every second of it!!!!

I actually enjoyed the fade. It did get tiresome when I thought I couldn't actually progress any further because I didn't have the right form. Maybe it was because I did the Tower first, and the Dwarves last.
The whole game experience for me slowly went down hill, but I think it's because I was overwhelmed at the beginning by how great it was, and also because I was putting in 10 hours shifts. By the end of the game I was playing it 1 or 2 hours at a time, and not getting into it so much.

I posted in a similiar thread about this, I would much rather have a lot of smaller parts than a few long drug out parts.

There's no dungeon in mass effect o_O
The closest thing is the hot labs pursuing Liara mother. And it's just a couple of corridors nothing more.
We finally have something close a real dungeon and someone complains? ç_ç
I was greatly disappointed when I discovered that the deep roads where just 3-4 locations on the map.

During development some people were wanting a longer difficult game. So they probably enjoyed an extended combat heavy dungeon crawl.

5 hours on the Ashes...really?
Im a roleplayer, l read every codex, listen to every conversation, scout out the enemies and traps...no way the Ashes could take 5 hours.
Orzammar yes, but that includes a City, side quests and several dungeouns.
Ld also suggest not doing an entire area in one sitting...l usually play 1-2 hour sessions.
