For me, Garrus ties with Tali as my favorite character from the Mass Effect series, and from any videogame series. It's so hard to pick between them as I think both of them were designed, written, acted, and portrayed exceptionally well. I think that, if you romance her, Tali is the best character of the two (I generally do, so I'm more inclined to choose her in my case) but if you don't romance her, and you either play as some other kind of MaleShep, or you choose FemShep (especially if you romance Garrus), then he is the superior character overall.

Nah. Garrus isn't the greatest video game character ever, at least not to me. That would probably be Dante from Devil May Cry.

I mean, just look at his raw awesomeness.

Mass Effect 3 has its problems.

Garrus Vakarian is not one of them.

In fact, I would GLADLY pay for an entire game starring just Garrus being Garrus and doing Garrus things for 20+ hours.

I would rejoice if Garrus was the protagonist of ME4...or of some FF-like spin off. Such an amazing character. Glad he hooked up with Tali. Ultimate Broheim.

I'm not afraid to admit, I taught myself to lucid dream so I hang out with Garrus and I was actually successful.

You *should* be afraid to admit that... but it's still very cool :P

Just dont screw up and get stuck between the dream and real life....Oo

I'm not that obsessed. I know its fake.

No I meant the very real occurences that can happen to people who force lucid dreaming. You can end up in a situation where your brain is half awake. You can move your eyes but your body is locked. Its why when you dream about running you dont actually get up and hit a wall.

In this state its common to experience hallucinations. They say they can be very frightening. People even have
heart attacks during these.

It happened to me once...Woke up eyes worked, but nothing else. Then after rolling my eyes enough times, I was able to move my toes....then the rest followed. Lucky no hallucinations though :innocent:

I'm not worried about that, I know how to prevent it.

Garrus is definitely in my top 5.. and I'm finding it hard to decide whether I like his or Carth's romance more. Carth used to be at the top, but ME3.. may have altered things.

This sums up why Garrus is the best:

After playing ME3, I honestly can't imagine it without him. How Bioware let the option of Garrus dying in ME2 exist is beyond me. Like he arguably has the most content of any squaddie you can have.

2. Mordin
3. Legion
4. Liara

Greatest character ever? No. Can he be placed up there in a high rank? Yes.  But the same can be said for Wrex, Legion and Mordin, the latter who can upstage anything Garrus does in all three games with the genophage missions.

And "greatest" video game characters are pretty much the ones who make and define the game/series they star in.  Examples being Link for LoZ, Cloud/Sephi for the FF series, Mario for Mario, Master Chief for Halo, Gordon Freeman for Half-Life, Nathan Drake for Uncharted; etc.  Garrus while being a poster character for promos (he shared this distinction with Miranda, Thane and Ashley), will always be second to Shepard when it comes to who remembers characters in the ME series.

I agree with you buddy, but that's what makes Mass Effect so great. You can choose who follows you through the games. Too bad that whole "choice" thing got left behind at the end...

Garrus? Best of all time?

Not even close. He's a good Bro-character, but his development was actually regressive and haphazard.

I'd say it's a tie between Varric and Garrus.

Garrus Vakarian is a fine character, but "greatest"? No. For one thing, Garrus' actions in the games mean NOTHING in the larger course of events. In ME1, if you recruit Garrus, he goes with you and helps you stop Saren. If you don't recruit him, you still stop Saren, and it plays out in the exact same way. So Garrus' participation makes no difference, anyone with a gun can do what he would have done. In ME2, you find Garrus in a sticky situation, after he foolishly kicked over the biggest hornet's nest in the galaxy. You have to save him from his own folly. Then he joins your mission to stop the Collectors, which we now know was a colossal waste of time. The Baby Reaper was never going to be a galaxy-wide threat, like the actual big Reapers are, and the Collectors are just Prothean husks, and husks are husks. Killing Prothean husks is no different from killing human, turian, batarian, or asari husks. Stopping the Collectors SO could have waited. Not to mention there's nothing that Garrus does during the Collector mission that couldn't be done by anyone else. And in ME3, we hear that Garrus had been working night and day to help the turians prepare for the Reapers, hardening communication lines, etc. Making a difference, right? Wrong, in ME3, if Garrus is dead, is there any noticeable difference in the way things play out? None whatsoever. Not. One. Thing. The only difference is that you don't talk to Garrus on Palaven's moon, and you don't have a guide to help you find Victus, but you still find Victus. And nothing any of the squadmates do in ME3 matters, except for Tali, Legion/Fake Legion, Liara and EDI, so it's not like there's any reason to trumpet Garrus' accomplishments in ME3 either.

So yeah, Garrus is a bro, he's a fun character, and all that good stuff, but he's just a hired gun, someone who will drop whatever he's doing to follow the main character around. That's nice from a character standpoint, but for a character to be truly great, his or her actions in the game should amount to more than just being a friend to the main character. Just my opinion, naturally.
