You know, my first time through ME1 I hardly even used him. I did not think he was very well developed. He grew on me quite a bit in ME2, as he was one of my only returning squadmates, and I ended up using him pretty much every mission. His lines were just awesome in ME3 and he is definitely now in my top 5 of all video game characters.

This is basically what happened with me. I barely, if ever, used him in one then when two came around I was just so happy to see a character I recognized that I was joyous to see Garrus. Playing with him on squad in two made me realize that I missed a great character in one.

He's certainly up there. There are lots of interesting characters to care about in the series, but Garrus is the one who most feels like a real friend. It's a great achievement of writing.

I'll be honest. I didn't care for him until ME3. He was solid in ME. I didn't find him interesting in ME2 and made him ride the pine after awhile. However, in ME3, I Ioved him and he was my squadmate for every mission except thessia.

Greatest video game character ever? I got him pretty high, but getting the top spot away from HK-47 is going to be a really tough job for any character. But he's definately pretty high up the list with a handful of others. Which, to be honest, is a BW heavy list to begin with.

Talking only ME, I think Mordin or Garrus are about neck and neck for me.

this is an accurate statement. I basically put him in my party in ME2 after hearing what he did in Omega. Basically a badass. Also I liked his character design. Sad they didn't give him more dialogue in ME2.  But his calibrations did pay off in the end...unlike ME3.

(Pretty much a tie between the first 3, I always hated having to choose between those 3 every time I left the normandy in ME2)

When I played ME - he and Wrex were like friends for me and my Shepard. Great characters, great writing. I was very glad to see Garrus back in ME2. And also how relationship grows through all these games.
