Wonders how it will turn out by siding with mages if that's the case by having 2 chantry devoted companions or by luck you can force both sides to come to an understanding, we'll see i guess.

It would be great to see Feynriel get caught up in the Tevinter way. We could do with another dick mage (hopefully one less whiny than Anders, though.)
I very much doubt he would be caught up in the Tevinter way, unless they change his outlook on it over the timeskip between DAII and DAIII. He sents a letter to Hawke in ActII if you send him to Tevinter. He talks about how his master had a duel against another mage out in public, and how he now understands why the templar might want to put mages in the Circle.
So he might not be pro-temple, but he understand why the Circles are there, and why mages need some regulation. Because if they didn't have some rules regulating magic, their would be chaos on the streets everytime two mages have a duel/fight. Because i can't imagine a Magister really caring if one of their spells if off his/her mark, and it kills some people watching or trying to escape.

True enough. I'd like to see a thoroughly disagreeable Tevinter party member one of these days, though.
Edit - Are there any Orlesian characters that have been underused until now? I need a ridiculous french accent in my party.

Warriors:
1) Cullen - The events preceding the disappearance of the Champion caused the Knight-Captain to undergo a crisis of faith. Years ago, he saw first-hand the destruction caused by blood magic left unchecked. Now, he has seen the destruction caused by the blindness and unrestrained zeal of his own order. Tormented by his conscience, he left the Templar Order. The next year of his life was one he would prefer to forget. Lyrium withdrawl drove him to the brink of madness, but he survived the ordeal and slowly regained his sanity... and a clarity he never dreamed possible. He has learned the value of moderation, but he has also gained a healthy distrust of dogma. He is still wary of magic and those who wield it, but experience has taught him the the true evil is the conscienceless use of power of any kind. He would like to see order restored to Thedas, but believes that genocide is too high a price to pay for it.
2) Cassandra - Because fans demand it.
3) A dwarven male - He was not born a surfacer and is taking his exile hard. He joined the struggles first as a mercenary because unless he was ready to lie down and die, he would still need to eat, but he has discovered that surface politics are just as engaging as dwarven politics. And just as deadly. He is not a "nice" dwarf, but he does have a sense of humor... or at least irony. He scoffs at the idea of dwarves as so many drunken buffoons. He is pragmatic and would appreciate Varric's assertion that mages and templars are all just a bunch of humans in skirts.
Rogues:
1) Sigrun - She kept saying that she was going to go on her Calling and join her old friend in death, but she never really got around to it. She doesn't care what a lot of humans and elves get up to, but with everything gone crazy topside, the darkspawn are going to have a field day. She has not forgotten her revulsion toward the Architect and feels much the same way about the talking darkspawn that are now plaguing the land. Unless order is restored, she fears they will win. Years on the surface have done nothing to dull the sparkle of her wit.
2) Nathaniel - See Cassandra
3) A female city elf - She's had it up to *here* with humans telling her what to do, but that doesn't stop her from wanting to make a profit off of it. Initially, her goals are very mercenary. Like many before her, she considered the political instability as a good way for an assassin to make a living. Maybe she was careless. Maybe she accepted the wrong contract. Whatever the reason, she is now on the run and appreciates the protection she gets from being in the protagonist's company. She doesn't think much of humans and makes no secret of it, but she doesn't think much of elves, either, or dwarves. She does enjoy the freedom she finds while working with the PC.
Mages:
1) Finn - He was too adorable for one short DLC.
2) Feynriel - problematic because he could be tranquil or mad
2a) Some other elven male - We haven't had one of them yet (well, Sketch, but I refuse to buy Leliana's Song because of the fixed protagonist, so it doesn't count
3) Kossith female - because magic ignores the demands of the Qun. Only males become sarebas. Females are artisans and farmers. Except when that female is born with magic, it gets complicated. She should have been fed a cocktail of mind-numbing drugs and put to work breaking up rocks or some other thing, but her abilities manifested themselves somewhat later than is usual among her people, and she had the presence of mind to escape before she was detected as a mage. She fled her homeland and has become involved in the current conflict for obvious reasons. She has taken a human name and is quite fond of it.

My preferences, of course, but it's quite easy to make up a balanced party from them. It has three offerings from each class and at least one each of male and female humans, dwarves, and elves. Only one kossith, but she's a good one. Only the kossith would really have an unshakable opinion on the mage/templar debate. The rest either don't care or would see the merits of both sides.

Warriors:
Carver(if alive) – I could really see the Hawke siblings becoming the dragon age equivalent of the VS to be honest. Both Bethany and Carver would provide a solid and stable link to Hawke/Dragon Age 2, and both of their stories felt rather unfinished in my honest opinion. If they didn’t want to factor in too many variables (Grey Warden/Templar/Dead), they could have it so a Templar Carver eventually joined the Grey Wardens out of choice and boom, we have our Grey Warden of the party.
Male Dalish Elf – What we’ve seen of the Dalish Elves has, in my opinion, been abit awful. I mean, the developers continually try and portray them as noble, fierce fighters for their own freedom yet continually fail. The DA:O Dalish Elves came across incredibly negative and ultimately abit stupid and so did the DA2 Elves. I would imagine him being a barbaric figure; his general uniform theme could be fighting in leather/with a wooden shield yet
still strong, the party tank ala Aveline. He could act as an avatar for the Dalish people, ensuring that they have a place in the new world which is being formed and him joining with the protagonist because he feels that's the best way he could achieve it. I imagine his personality being akin to Javiks from Mass Effect 3; a renegade by nature who wouldn't hesitate slaughtering innocents to achieve his goal.
Cullen – We’ve yet to have a real Chantry party member. Like, we had Alistair who was a failed Templar and we had Sebastian who struggled with the idea of committing to the Chantry. Plus, Cullen seems to be a genuine and interesting character; he seems nice, has his act together but has potential emotional scarring. Could turn out to be a real hit. He could represent the 'good' side of the Chantry to the audience.
Rogue:
Cassandra – Although I think I may have got the wrong end of the stick here. I always got the impression she was a rogue, not a warrior, although I’ve done no extensive research into her character/background so I’m probably wrong. But like someone said, I feel that the fans demands are too strong for the developers to ignore. She could represent the other side of the Chantry; someone who isn't inherently evil but willing to do what needs to be done.
Female Dwarf – I would say Sigrun, but all her outcomes seemed very bleak and death-ie. But I would love to see a female dwarf; possibly someone who had a rough childhood but over came it through cunning and manipulation. Maybe with a very evil streak – we’ve yet to have a character who’s evil just because (ala Bishop from NWN2). Evil for the sake of being evil can be pulled off very well when done right, and it could be easy/interesting to see how the protagonist could change her point of view.
Mage:
Bethany – same reasons as Carver, and same outcome. Both could join the Grey Wardens (or in Bethanys case be forced to join)
Male Human Chasind – or some sort of barbarian from the wilds. I would love to see how they could portray a mage who has had no influence what so ever from the Chantry. The closest we got was Morrigan, but even she had negative experiences with the Chantry/Templars. Maybe he becomes a party member through slavery? He was captured by Tevinter raiders and forced into slavery yet escaped. I imagine him with a very dark sarcastic personality, but ultimately the 'funny wild guy' in the party. It's getting abit cliche now that all the relaxed/easy going/humerous party members have been rogues.. like, come on, it just plays to the fantasy stereotype of rogue = easy going.
Female City Elf – maybe someone simply like Alistair. We’ve yet to have a female love interest who was simply good and no moral questions at all. Leliana was a black widow figure prior to meeting her, Morrigan is the
obvious bad girl esque, Isabela is for all intents and purposes a pirate skank (don’t hate me! I absolutely loved her, but there’s no way you could class her as ‘good’. Neutral at best >.>) and Merril the blood mage. Maybe this
game we have a female love interest who’s like Alistair, naive but not toocutesy like Merril and simply wants to do good within the world.
Probably not very good, but that would be my ideal party member selection. The love interests being the female Dwarf rogue, Cullen and the two mages. I don’t see Cassandra being a love interest, she comes
across too similar to Aveline. Oh and the Hawke siblings being a love interest, please!
One other thing I would say is – please don’t go out of your way to create unnatural connections to prior protagonists. I thought it was quite cheap and tacky how a noticeable amount of party members in DA2 had a connection to the Grey Warden (Merril if the Warden was Dalish, Isabela and Anders). Isabela was tastefully done, but both Merril and Anders seemed a little tact on, Anders more so than Merril. I mean, he had his entire personality changed for what seemed to be the plot of DA2 – it wasn’t a natural change. I felt his role would’ve been more effective if it wasn’t him doing it, just some unnamed male human mage.. An example would be - please don't have it so Aveline returns but as a chaotic figure just to ensure conflict within the plot. I would really rather have a new party member than retconning old ones just to include them.
Edit:
Oh I forgot a Quanari party member. I don't really see how they can weave it in; I imagine the plot of DA3 will revolve around the Templar/Mage war and I don't see why Quanaris would care other than information and them possibly exploiting the weakened state of Thedas.

It could be someone we least suspect like Keran from DA:2
I'd like to see Varric and Warden Carver return as companions.
