Best argument to date. 100% on point.

I suspect Cthuhlu was an inspiration for the Reapers, but only an inspiration. Cribbing cosmic horror themes doesn't obligate the writers to follow them to the same narrative conclusions that Lovecraft did.

it's 39 minutes long, but holy cow did it open my eyes to just...everything going on with the ending. It seriously explained why it's so much more than just, "it's sad, I don't like it." Not even close! This seriously says it all, and Bioware employees and fans alike should check this out.

great video... the Benny Hill soundtrack over the ending explanation plus Shepard shooting at the Star Child is making me laugh so hard  :D

I think personally, my biggest "beef" with it all is this; Throughout the series, we are given a choice. We can choose so many things. As complicated as all of the individual narratives get, we are never denied the ability to choose. We don't always get the same choices along particular narratives but that's the beauty of it. Choice and consequence. We can choose a reality wherein Wrex is dead, and because of that, we have an opportunity to save Mordin. We can choose a reality wherein a handful of our comrades have died, and we have to deal with the ramifications of that outcome. Overcoming those failures to try and accomplish our mission...

but in the end, the mission is a dud. The game builds up to anticlimax, and we are suddenly pulled out of the story. Two things going horribly, horribly awry!

First; we are introduced to a new character, a new concept and a new mission - in the last ten minutes of a five year journey.

Secondly, emphatically; nothing we did before that point matters. All of that work, all of that effort, all of those ever-unfolding narratives each relying on so many different opportunities for choice and consequence... all of those threads are severed, in favor of ... and I know this is going to hurt some writer at BioWare - Poor story telling.

This is why the company should be in the practice of hiring editors. People who are emotionally unattached to the work, who can look at it and say with a straight face (and be taken seriously when they do) "What the hell, guys? Go get some sleep, come back tomorrow, set these five pages on fire, and try again."

BW messed up the ending and won't admit it.
The OP did an excellent job explaining why i felt lost, depressed, and betrayed by the ending, and i thank him for it.
I longer explanation of a messed up ending just extends the pain showing how clueless BW is. I have read where people are dropping not just ME, but TOR also to protest this bad ending. So, BW is really hurting themselves and there brand for making good stories.

i have done this. And in the cancellation of my TOR subscription, and the little survey they send asking "Why and how can we get you back?" I was crystal clear on my Mass Effect 3 Ending and BioWare/EA issues.
