Also, at 7:50, no "panties on fire" comment. FYI, I too had a Shep who never romanced Liara but was always nice to her, and yet got called her "boyfriend". So. Definitely a bug.

Edit: Huh. Now that I think about it, I'm really starting to dislike this line: "And you think Shepard is... no. No." I mean WTH?

I didn't hear "boyfriend" at any time, and I replayed that cutscene 3 times. I'm a no-romance Shepard (so far!) and didn't use the "my girl" renegade line...

What game are you guys playing?

I think it's a little more than a crush. I think Liara loves Shepard, regardless of whether you romance her or not.

I mean, she retrieves Shepard's body and gives it to Cerberus because she couldn't let you go.

I really dislike how they force Liara on every single Shepard for no good reason. She's alright character, but I'd never ever romance her as Shep. It's total bollocks, but at least I avoided the rape. Rather night alone in comfy bed than a night with alien in the same bed.

When my fem shep got the girlfriend line from Aethyta without being in a romance I didn't think anything of it because I've heard women call their female friends their girlfriends. I took it as an acknowledgment of Shep and Liara being close friends rather than a ninja romance.

I have never liked Liara, either the ME1 version, or the totally unbelievable personality change she undertook to become the ME2 version.

What really annoys me is that at the end of ME3 you see Anderson's face then Liara's, unless you are romancing Ashley or Kaiden, ALL other romances default to Liara.

The favoritism that Bioware displays towards Liara is deeply annoying, she is the only NPC that cannot be killed, must be recruited and cannot be ejected, Allers- style, (Get off my ship), in the trilogy, Why? What plot justification is there for this?

Bioware tries so hard to force Liara on you that they just ASSUME you'll romance her regardless of whether or not you do.

Seriously, yeah, Liara, you're cool and smart and all... but you're like that creepy stalker wanna-be girlfriend that NEEDS a partner to function and validate your existence, otherwise you'd wind up a crazy old cat lady or something.

Liara is Mass Effect's Edward Cullen? Actually, that makes a LOT of sense.

Really long life. Still considered a "teenager" by comparison. Some of her species drain you of your energy till you die. Is obsessed with your body. Has on-going discussions about her hair (tentacles).

Bug, lack of play testing, just bad writing, whatever. It still is annoying as hell and kind of ruins the immersion of the game.

Actually, I'm really confused now. When I was playing through the game with the non-liara romancing Shepard I got the panties on fire comment, but going back to that save I instead get the "And you think Shepard is... no. No.".

I'll just say that I thought the "boyfriend/girlfriend" line was Aethyta showing her age. My grandmother calls all my friends my boyfriends and girlfriends; and I'm married.

Additionally, my mother (who is no longer with my father) gets her boyfriend called her lover.

To be fair, there's a certain amount of tension between Shep and Liara regardless of whether you romance her or not. I mean, I romanced Garrus without romancing anyone in ME (that means I had to nuke Not-Carth Onasi. Sorry.) and she still called Shepard Liara's girlfriend. It's either Aethyta misinterpreting the tension between Shep and Liara or Aethyta calling Shepard Liara's boyfriend/girlfriend in the sense that he/she is Liara's friend who is a boy/girl.

Haven't any of you done this? Even when I know 2 people aren't together, if they're sort of close I'll yank their chain and refer to them as girlfriend and boyfriend.

It's actually quite a normal thing. It's not unusual for people to do this.

But in that case, they'd tend to deny it.

This is a bug.  There is an appropriate non-romance line, but it doesn't seem to fire for some people.

This. Come on guys, I even posted a video showing the non-romance line. It's a bug, not a conscious decision from the devs/writers to have Aethyta yank Shep/Liara's chain.

Interesting. I just assumed that Aethyta was speculating (HAH) that Shepard and Liara were dating. Familes do it all the time. As soon as you say someone's name they assume that "ooh are you dating them" and it all goes downhill from there.

Suspension of disbelief, just pretend that she thinks you're Liara's boyfriend, could be a mistake like anyone in real life can think someone specific could be someone else's boyfriend.

This and Liara has a big crush on Shep regardless of LI... Not surprising if her father knows about this crush.
