When there is no conversation opportunity with Liara in her cabin (casual or cut-scene -- excluding the repeated "I have nothing more to say" type of responses after exhausting all casual {non-cutscene} conversation options), the monitors will twist in odd directions based on which way Shepard is facing and not where Shepard is standing. If Shepard crosses into Liara's bedroom, the monitors return to face Liara. When Shepard come out of the bedroom, the monitors face Shepard as they normally do when there are conversation opportunities with Liara.)
EDIT: The monitor error happens only if Shepard enters Liara's cabin from the Mess Hall when she has nothing more to say. If the monitors are working correctly because she had something to say, they continue to work correctly after she has nothing more to say.
