It took me just over 48 hours to finish my first play through, but I did skip conversation in the first 20 hours of the game, because I had heard it on another partial play through. I finished at level 21. Interesting enough, my companions all hit 21 during the final fight, but never got the benefit of it, due to being in combat.
Here is where I'm torn.
The game felt very epic leading up to the Landsmeet. I had a desperate cause that I was in pursuit of. I really enjoyed the first 40 hours of the game. Once I got to the Landsmeet, it all felt very anticlimactic and rushed. I spent forty hours chasing the villain Logain, just to find out he really isn't much of a villain at all. I move on to the final quest, to fly through it without dying once - in fact I only had one companion drop on the way, and all four were standing when the Archdemon died. I think the end game could have been much better, but all in all I liked the game a lot.
In fact, I'm about to start my second play through. This time I am going to be a rogue, and not use auto-level on any of my companions. I'm also going to play through on Hard, because my team was overpowered for the end game on Normal, and they were all on auto-level the whole game. If they are specialized, it's going to be much easier I believe.
My only real complaint about this game is the DLC - not the price, or it being available on day 1. Frankly I think that is ingenious - I'm proud of a company that is successful in a horrible economic climate. It shows American ingenuity. My complaint is that the DLC doesn't extend the story - instead it occurs during the main story. I disliked the DLC for Mass Effect for the same reason. If you're going to play it, you have to either start over, or go back to a game save that is early enough that you can still travel the map. I guess there are always expansions.
