I haven't finished reading this topic yet, but I'd like to point out that I don't know who Chobot is. I assume she's the VA for Diana Allers, but it justs brings some circular logic that they've added Diana to the game because she's voiced by Chobot because Chobot voices Diana from ME3.....

I expect she must be some important person then?

(I'm not expecting a reply, lol, I'm just showing that I dunno who she is. I expect I'll find out by reading this topic)

Chobot is an on-camera host and staff writer for IGN. She's modeled, been on TV and stuff.

She's become quite popular because of her attractiveness, suggestive nature and her love for video games and anime/manga.

What teenager wouldn't love a girl like that?

Well, I don't, but you see my point.

I think that are far more gamer girls nowadays than 20 years ago.  But really Emily Wong killed on twitter....

Aside from the endings, there are plenty of things to nitpick about the game, but one issue in particular really seems to show what direction Bioware is going to continue to take as a developer.  It's absolutely infuriating to me (even as I take a step back and remind myself how dumb it is to be so pissed off about a video game).

Somewhere along the line, for some reason I cannot comprehend, Bioware made the decision to spend their face-modeling money on Diana Allers, rather than giving Tali (a core character in the series) the face reveal she deserved.

I had no idea who Jessica Chobot was before Mass Effect 3.  If the intent of her cameo was to make me a fan of hers, it actually had the opposite effect.  I'm now forever going to associate her name with the failings of ME3.

Is she really that popular, that Bioware thought putting her in the game would boost sales?  Was putting Chobot in the game such a draw, that it was worth it to relegate Tali to a stock photoshop, and kill off Emily Wong on Twitter?

As a design decision, it feels so dysfunctional and out of touch with what fans expect.  The thing is, I don't see how having Chobot/Allers in the game was beneficial to EA/Bioware in any way.  Whoever forces these stupid marketing gimmicks on Bioware at the cost of game integrity needs to be fired, because they don't even work.

Because some single guy can sit in front of a computer and model some dream-skank?
Because they thought teenage boys would happily ****** to her image?

IDK. I didn't even know she was a real person until a few days ago - I just thought she was another space skank like Kelly Chambers, except more revolting in appearance.  I wish Emily Wong or Al-Jilani was on my ship - that would have been fun.

Jessica Chobot isn't what I'd call a dream-skank? She is a fairly knowledgible videogame journalist. She's good at what she does and she just so happens to be pretty too. But acting just isn't her strong suit. She is okay in that role but she's better off doing her thing with the daily news updates on IGN.

However I don't think there is anything wrong with someone branching out. Avoid having to do the same thing for the entirety of ones life is a luxury that most people wished they had. My issue is that she's on IGN which reviews video games. Of course this was going to lead to favourable reviews.

Space skank? Are you saying this because she flirts with Comander Shepard? I call that unprofessional.
Dianna Allers does look a bit strange too. But I wouldn't describe her as ugly.

The reason Bioware chose her was favourble reviews from IGN and to increase sales of the games (Chobot has lots of fans).

This is not a fanboy defence of Chobot. I find her attractive but I don't really care about her because I don't know her.

Only you think I'm trying to change or deflect something.

Well, I did tell you how I thought that conversation played out. You never corrected me, so I assume I'm correct.

You got called out on something. It made you uncomfortable. You've tried to wriggle out of that discomfort.

Doesn't change the fact that you started off with a sexist joke. Now you look like you're just ... I dunno. Trying to save face? To avoid seeing that you said something problematic (and that the problem is me, not you)?

Correct? What? Who cares about being correct? Well..you do, obviously. For some reason.

I know what I said, I said it for a reason. It blew my mind that you cried so hard, and still are. And why are you still dragging it on? For like 7 pages. Your posts to me are just pointless provoking, trolling. You want me to say that you're correct about something? About what?

Okay, you're right and correct. You are right about everything, the whole universe. My little opinionated joke thing was wrong and you're right and so much better than I am.

I don't care. I don't care that you didn't like it. What I do care about? I never leave a conversation or argument until both sides agree that it is finished or you just up and leave.

This pointless back and forth was fun for a while, but now? Geez, you're annoying.

No, I can't say stupid, you have some semblance of intelligence. I can't come up with a word to describe it.

If we're having a conversation, I want to be correct about what's going on. I told you how I saw the conversation. You never corrected. So I assumed I was already reading it correctly.

You made a sexist joke. You got called out for it. You're upset. Keep being upset. I don't mind. Keep mocking me. Keep insulting me. Keep pointing to others who did the same thing. Keep pretending you don't care.

You keep saying the same thing.

So...because I only addressed a specific part of one of your many posts to me, I...have no idea. Why did I have to correct anything? Why do you care?

I made a joke about a woman who acts ****ty, I know I did. I got called out for it, obviously. Upset? I was. Still upset? I'm annoyed. Because you're annoying, repetitive and make no sense whatsoever. I will keep mocking you and insulting you, because it's fun, because I don't like you, and I don't even know you. Keep pointing to others who did the same thing? I did that twice, on the second or first page. I didn't say anyone specific.

I don't care that you found my post to be too offensive and naughty for your virgin eyes, on the internet of all places. All I care about now is seeing this to the end, or showing you how irritating and stupid you are.

as far as I am concerned, they could've put Snooki or Kim Kardashian in the game instead of Allers and I still would've felt the exact same way.

She's famous for licking a PSP...

I had never heard of Jessica Chabot before and didnt know Diana was a cameo until reading it on the forums. I never really had a problem with her in me3, wasnt a favorite character by a long shot but meh she was ok. Having now googled her though I will say how she looks in ME3 does not do her justice.

I've been metaphorically beating my forehead against a desk every since I beat ME3 as to some of the decisions they made regarding it. There's just no rhyme or reason for some of the stuff they did, in fact some of the choices they made were just plain counter productive now that I look back. What the heck happened??

As for tali, i'm sure they didn't want to do a face reveal. Doing that would violate the desire of people like myself for it to remain a mystery. As for Emily Wong, I'm sure she's way too busy doing other things than sitting on the SSV Normandy, even if it is commanded by Shep.

True, but I feel like the way they "revealed" her face was just the absolute worst way they could have done it. It pissed off the people who wanted to see her face, pissed off the people who didn't want to see her face, pissed off the people who wanted a more alien tali, pissed off the people just with the fact it was a google image and they didn't even give her a face. If I knew this is what they had in mind, I honestly would rather have not seen her face.

They really painted themselves into a corner with Tali. There was no way they were going to get through ME3 without pissing off somebody. I'm not particularly surprised that they basically said "screw it", did a half assed photoshop job, and called it a day.

Nope, but she isn't employed by a company that reviews video games either.

Miranda was a well-voice acted and well-developed (not talking about dat ass) character.  She was critical to the plot of both ME2 and ME3.  Yvonne being in the game is not comparable to Chobot as Allers.

This post is contradictory within itself.

On the one hand you're saying how you saw it and on the other you're making an absolute statement "You made a sexist joke."

Either you're saying it was sexist or you're saying you interpreted it as being sexist.

Anyway, there's nothing innately sexist about his statement. The same statement would work the same way for saying that some young, attractive man got into a position because he bedded a middle-aged woman, which also happens in office politics as well. There's no gender attached to it.

At most you could argue he's calling Chobots integrity into question but there's nothing sexist about it at all.

Professional woman? Licking PSP is professional? She markets herself as a sex object, and since her performance in the game wasn't so good either, it's a 100% fair to assume that's something like that might have happend. I personally don't think so, but it's a fair guess nonetheless.

I googled Jessica Chobot after I got ME 3.

Judging by her pictures, I think she blew some of the members of Bioware. Or slept with someone important. Or someones.

Or probably for a high rating from IGN.

Most likely, however? Some people think she's hot. A lot of her pictures online are suggestive and revealing. Fan service.

Famous for seductively licking a psp.

I do not find her attractive, and her in game model isn't either.

There's something really nasty in this post, something misogynistic. It makes me very uncomfortable.

Most likely, it was a fan service thing. BW does that. It blew up because there's so little good will towards the game as a whole.

Lol what?

So it's misogynistic to dislike a woman for getting somewhere purely for flaunting herself rather than through hard-work and integrity?

Wow.

This, I am a woman and I agree with this.

Sure, it'smisogynistic to assume women to be inferior, seen as sex objects and the only way women achieve success to sleep with men. But when someone has so many "sexually
suggestive" photos on the net, that woman is pretty much feeding the misogyny and it ends up a cycle and someone's bound to point that out.

You want to flaunt your beauty? Go ahead, just don't flaunt it in a "sexually suggestive" way and expect nobody will talk dirty to you or won't respect you as a equal and not a sl*t.

Tali deserved a game model, and that she didn't get it because Bioware had to spend their budget on Diana Allers is infuriating, despite the fact that as you say, it's just a game. However, I'm pretty sure Bioware wants us to see Mass Effect as more than "just a game", judging by how every second sentence they write or say "officially" they keep pointing out how what they do is "art" as if they had to prove themselves or something. So if it's art (which by the way, I kind of agree), you have to prove it with things like this, in your ability to correctly make your artistic choices.

I feel it would have been better if they just went in guns blazing with an original design for tali (just like every. other. character. in the game) and showed her face on rannoch and said "boom, there's tali, this is what she looks like under that mask all this time). If people didn't like well that's what bioware designed, people who did like it ok there ya go. But a half hearted photoshop google image nobody wins. :(

Because we've been talking about Olivia Munn being in game instead of Chobot for a few pages now.

But you're only up my ass, aren't you?

Try a different technique.

Excuse me? A different technique? And just what the hell are you trying to say, you annoying, whiney ****?

Like that?

A little softer? More rage? Or more trolling?

More love? More hatred?

This is getting pretty stale, but I guess I could always use an admirer on every forum I go to.

Will you follow me into a new thread, as well? Cry some more when I make an "off-color" joke? Flabbergast me some more?

Not many people get me so...flustered.

No...this needs a "shy" face like from Vindictus.

Uh huh. Keep trying.

Remember, you're the one that made the comment first. Mocking me doesn't change it.

The interpretation comment is regarding something else.

The original statement was sexist.

I gave you a list of how I thought the conversation had played. How I was reading it. You never told me that list was wrong, so I assumed my idea of how the conversation had gone on was accurate. That's the "correct" part. You never said "That's not what happened", so I assumed that was correct. That's all.

You made a sexist joke. You got called out on it. You whined about me calling you out on it. And others calling you out on it. You've done several things that look like you're trying to wriggle out of responsibility for that comment, or, rather, to shift focus from it.

See it to the end, if you like. I'm on holiday. I've got a whole week. And I assure you, nothing you attempt to insult me with will work.
Others have made nice posts in reply to you. You should read them.
I have. I haven't felt the need to respond to them.

EDIT: except for that one.

Chobot clearly flaunts her sexuality to get attention. That's the only reason anyone even knows who she is, not because she's a capable and knowledgable game reviewer (which she may be for all I know; I had never heard of her until this cameo). If men in the industry behaved that way, we'd consider it inappropriate. It should be the same for her. That's not sexism, it's holding her up to a universal standard of behavior. Personally, I find her to be an insulting representation of women in the gaming industry, and clearly I'm not alone there. The fact that she was added to the game when other, more established characters were left out... that's just adding injury to insult.

It is certainly possible that is what may of happened

Look, just turn it around. Whatever your job is, I could say that it is "certainly possible" that you got it because you provided sexual favors to somebody. After all, we don't have any proof that didn't happen! Surely such things have happened before in the history of the universe!

But this is a particular slur that only gets lodged against women, and it's always a way of demeaning them. Chobot is an industry journalist with a fan following, so it's no more bizarre that she'd be written into ME3 than it is that Felicia Day would get written into Dragon Age. She just didn't do as good a job with her role.

Critizing her performance is fine, and criticizing the decision to put her in the game is also fine. It's saying that she only got the part because she blew somebody that's sexist. There's absolutely no reason to assume that. It's just a way of demeaning her, putting her down for being an attractive woman and dismissing her as a professional.
