I don't hate the character per se. But one must question that if Bioware was on such a tight schedule, why did they take the time/effort to put this relatively useless character in? it took away development time from things like Tali's face, or yknow, the ending....

I really didn't mind her. I didn't follow gaming news that much before ME3 came out, and when I first ran into her on the Citadel I didn't know she was VA by a real reporter for a gaming site.

I just thought, "Wow, this trashy Jersey Shore chick does not fit into Mass Effect." I then added to her to Normandy and used her for war assets and reputation bonuses.

I didn't like her, but I didn't really hate her either. I just ignored her most of the time unless we were doing interviews.

*Blatantly referring to IGN is also, cringeworthy.

?  Apparently I'm dense or missed something, could you explain?

No hate from here...

Though in retrospect as someone else here said. The onboard normandy reporter should probably have been an allready established character.

That Jessica Chobot (spelling?) got her face in the game somewhere backgroundish I have no problem with.

I wasn't particularly bothered by her. I didn't know anything about Jessica Chobot, and the idea of there being an embedded war correspondent aboard the Normandy was a good one. She was inappropriately dressed for such a role, however ;p

Er, I also liked the Twitter thing involving Emily Wong - it was actually quite gripping and well done, with lots of improvised roleplaying happening around it. It's a shame it wasn't publicised better, or put on the ANN feed so people could access it who didn't have twitter and didn't know about the CDN.

We could have had al-Jilani on the SR2 instead?

I don't either.... background character is background..... It was actually a neat micro choice to have her there.. moreso just a character RP choice. My shepeard was always annoyed but tolerant of the media.. used them to advantage. So it made sense that he'd decide to put up with a reporter on the ship.

They should have had a couple of in game reports from Emily Wong, to complement the twitter stuff - which I agree was actually pretty good. Not just because she's a fairly popular minor character, but because the game could do with a bit more colour on Reaper occupied Earth.

I think some of the hate is the fact that they spent more time rendering Allers than Photoshopping Tali's portrait.

Only one of the reasons,  but a good one.

Just think if they'd kept it single player & put those MP resources into the ending..    :?

Only reason i hate her is that development time was spend for her that could've been used for more important stuff...

I haven't problem with her and her connection with IGN.

For me it is same case like using real actors to voice characters in game. BW wanted war reporter on Normandy and they wanted her voiced by some real reporter. But who to choose? Be honest, how many 16 years old players knowing reporters from CNN or such? So logically it must be reporter from fans area of interest... voilá, lets choose some game-reporter! And what about IGN, they are well known.

But I understand that some people simply seeing conspiracy everywhere. ;)

Exactly, you hear about things being cut due to "time and resource constraints" and then you see a superfluous fluff character like her that doesn't even belong in the game and you think, "Why the hell were resources spent on her if there aren't even enough to fully flesh out all of the story?"

If you close your eyes, and just listen to the voice, it's not that bad. When you look at the pimple called Diana Allers' face, and her autistic, oops, I mean artistic character animation, you are filled with Krogan Blood Rage.

I don't know Chobot from Adam and I don't wish her emotional distress or hate. I do take issue with how her company portrayed anyone who thought the ending sucked as whining six year olds, and her inclusion when we had the lovely Ms Wong to step in until twitter killed her probably annoyed the hell out of some people. Chobot's taking the brunt of it.

Ah. So your problem is that she's unattractive.

I need a sexism imagemacro.

What i didn't like was

The war correspondent was actually quite a cool idea. But bubblegum reporter rather than a proper one was truly awful. Coupled with the fact wong would have made far more sense and Chobot acting left a lot to be desired.

Diane Allers has no personality, no character, terrible looks, terrible voice acting, and is only in the game so that Bioware could bribe IGN into giving them good marks. Remind me about the part where she is good again

the mere fact she got more time and input than samara/morinth/jack is the reason why shes not needed. but then introducing pointless ppl into mass effect 3 seems the norm for bioware.

It's not sexism, it's repulsion to bioware's devolution in character faces and animations. And no, my last sentence isn't me supporting ****sm if that's what you're thinking.

Well, I took her aboard for the extra 5 War Asset, no harm done, considering I then neglected her for the entire game and provided her with no interviews whatsoever. Although I hate her because of her voice acting, it's like she's reciting news instead of conversing. Plus, she's ugly and her breast is... Wobbly. :P lol sorry.

It so obviously should have been Emily Wong, an established character in the Mass Effect universe. The fact that they indstead chose a new character with a voice actor that is a real life journalist from a site that initially tried to ridicule those who hated the ending didn't help at all...

Personally I don't get the hate either. I didn't know anything about her or IGN when I was playing the game. She and Shepard explained themselves perfectly as far as why it was a good idea to let her on.

Ending aside, Bioware didnt need to cuddle up to reviewers b/c the game quality was top notch, so I don't view that as being any type of real motivation

But, I will say I sympathize with those who say it was wasted resources that should have gone to stuff like Tali's face or additional dialog from crew that we had more attachment to

I don't hate the Diana Allers character, I just see it as wasted resources that could have been used on other characters:

- giving Kal'Reegar and Morinth a proper place in the game,
- voicing Mama Shep so she doesn't have to say "hello" through a third party.

And probably a lot of other things.

she seemed to me to be one the best modeled females of the entire series. very attractive.
