In my opinion, it goes like this.
The Alpha Relay was shot at by a freaking astroid, and based off of the ME3 Codex, that action "ruptured' the relay causing a supernova.
Now what happened with the crucible? Weekes "believes" that the relays didn't ubernuke everything. To explain this, I believe the crucible uses the energy of the relay to fire itself to the next relay and so on, or basically the energy is like a booster. The relays blowing up part is probably because the technology of the relay overloaded and blow, like a computer that sparks and catches on fire. The energy of the relay is gone, it's just the tech itself that basically shortcircuted and blew.
Just wondering what others opinions are as of this point, especially after Weekes was kind enough to talk to that lucky fan.
