I can see Alistair not getting the guy code.

As for him being a tank? Yeah, I never cared for him much in that roll. Of course, that could be because I did not particularly like him as a character. Lawful stupid and I just don't get along.

This is a wise man.

I created a noble woman human rogue and always HATED Allistair! whinning like a child, stupid...And dying all the time! I'm not really into tanks so my dog was great for half the game, then a bit of oghren then Shale the golem and at last the BEST: Loghain!!!

I was in love since the start anyway :) And with this guy in my team, I never needed to take care of him, he was alive at the end of all the fights, doing his job greatly without blablablah all the time ,no babbles, great tough guy! Oh, I forgot to say that he regretted the bad choices he has made in the 1st place...(though driven a lot by Howe btw)I forbid him quickly just to get rid of that stupid childish Allistair...And at the end of the day , it's Loghain who killed the deamonlord.

Too bad we had no romance , he was admirative that's all.I think there were no script for that...

I'm sure someone will make a mod for this yet.

I have noticed the fact that it has been neglected to mention that Alistair is Nathan Drake's younger, uncool brother and that his every action stems from a desire to match his brother and be able to run with his crowd. Alas he cannot, thus the incessant whining.

Many of the companions are whiny complainers before you get their approval rating up. I hated to even bring Morrigan along in my party because of her constant snide remarks and comments until I gave her gifts and her attitude changed. Same thing happens with all your companions based on their approval rating, their whole attitude changes. I personally like Alastair's clean cut mannerisms and shyness.

Now with respect to Alastair's tanking ability or any character for that matter. Blame the fingers behind the keyboard folks, as you design your companions with their abilities, armor and tactics. If you are not using your tactics, then your tank will surely fail. I won't loose a battle otherwise I reload and see where I made mistakes and imperfections to my battle to beat a fight and never die.

That's too funny. He ratted you out?! LOL! He broke the guy code!

But as far as fighting, Alistair is a beast if you gear him up and do right by his tactics.

Alistair is my right hand man. I use the two handed swords and he goes sword and board, we mow the lawn together. But if you cheat, you get what you deserve. Alistair didn't have a chance to rat me out nor would I begrudge him. He is an honorable man.

It would be like asking Oghen to stay sober and Alistair is the best tank of the companions considering what you can do with equipment and skills. Oh and he can learn two specializations unlike the tool, Sten...

Alistair as a Templar/Champion with Warden set, Duncan's shield, Asturian's Might with two Grand Silverite Runes... He was a walking, shouting, buff tank. When we weren't fighting darkspawn, I had him switch to Keening Blade and Fade Wall with Grandmaster and 2 Master Paralyze runes.

So yea, you get what you put in with Alistair. He has the potential to be an awesome tank.

Oh, and if you've been flirting with Leliana and then sleep with Zevran, HE brags to her about bagging your character. Not classy at all, dude.

Alistair is the best tank NPC in the game if leveled right. If you didn't, you are a girl.

And you broke the guy code.

That isn't entirely true because bioware went ahead and allocated stats, skills, and talents to characters before you get them and you can do nothing, aside from the raven mod, to change them.

Becuase of Alistair's scattered stat points, he really is a pain to make into a decent tank.

Um, how is he hard? I've done it successfully five times now without even looking anything up. Level his dex to 26 and his strength to 42. Give him all shield skills and do his tactics right. Go Champion to compliment his Templar training.

Oh and also.... He is the first damn companion you get besides the dog. You have the absolute MOST time with leveling him. So what scattered points are you talking about?

Al for sure is a good tank - better than anyone else actually, due to his shield training. Oghren is nice damager and Sten... who cares, i never took him in party. As for the character though i agree Alistair is a bit weak and his opinion usually contents just whining and not funny jokes. Really, i had about 80 influence on him for most of my firsth playthrought, and still he didn't once say a thing u could.. you know, use in your normal life. He's OK as a game companion for me and even may be as a mate in real life - at least he's not much harm. But as a romance option? I would like to understand it.

Zevran on the other hand is at least FUNNY. And he is an eternal optimist - god damn, thing i Would like in real life near myself, for sure.

Zevran funny but not pratical his lock picking and trap disarming skills are too low and IMO is the only reason to bring a Rogue over a warrior.

Scattered as in he needs 4 stats to be increased to be a decent tank (Str, Con, Dex, and Willpower) Early in the game when you do not have the best armors, nor skills, you need a tank that can absorb punishment, Alistair can't. His Con is too low.

Increase it to where he can, and you end up neglecting his Str and Dex which are also needed for his tanking abilities. He ends up being carried by the rest of the group until his tanking skills and stats are decent enough that he can at least survive for 3 seconds.

Does he become better as you get higher up? Of course he does, but Loghain and Shale both make better tanks than he does. Plus, they aren't as annoying.

And yet I found him superior in every way... Odd. Yes, there are stats to attend to but you are there to manage them the whole damn time, unlike Loghain who is way past another specialization completion.

I made it work just fine, especially since he got my Juggernaut Plate early on. Loghain lacks access to an entire specialization tree and comes with Silverite nonsense armor. By the time I do the Landsmeet, Loghain is easily outclassed by the work I've put into Alistair, who has full Champion and Templar as well as plenty of stats to be an awesome tank.

Shale could be made as a good counter argument to Alistair but I can't be convinced of Loghain's merit since they didn't give him a Soul Reaver. XD

Then again, I suppose the key is that I didn't rush the Landsmeet and I knew how to gear up Alistair.

Ok, so here is Alastair at Level 4 with the stats given by Bioware to start. For those who say his points are spent unwise ... are you kidding, he is only level 4 when you get him so how in the world can you blame Bioware for your error in creating a meaningful tank. I think the err lies in that you didn't research what each item stats help to benefit a tank. It's called trial and error.

and lastly ... I'm done with this post because people complain about the game designer and not the gamer.
