I know that this will cause a number of people on the forum here to cackle or even flame me on this but I'll note it anyway.

Why the heck does every single female in the game large chested?  How realistic is that?  It seems that the artists felt that larger was better and they might as well appeal to a juvenile audience.  Personally, I think it's silly and I just shake my head with every new female encounter where each one competes for being top-heavy.

I just thought that variety would be a bit more interesting...  you know...  to appeal to that juvenile side of things.

My guess is that there's some magic going on at the birth of females throughout the land and if they aren't born with at least a C-cup gene...they're prematurely aborted or still born.

Okay...flame away.

The problem isn't quite that they all share the same model, it's that they all share the same animation rig. So you end up with a female model being wider in the shoulders and narrower in the hips because they have the same rig as the male models. This is my understanding, anyhow -- I am not an animator.

Would explain why they walk like guys as well....
That was the only thing that actually put me off - the walking like a guy part.

You missed the manly amble that all models had at one point. Every time we watched a scene where a female model needed to walk, one of us in the meeting would do a John Wayne impression.

The solution, of course, is to give female models their own rig -- which is something that hopefully will happen at some point.

If this even bothers the developers, then why not release the tools to the community to make the necessary changes? Or at least reveal the file formats? (Far as I know, the toolset doesn't allow editing of models and animations.) Just look at Oblivion and Fallout 3 to see how well the community can take care of these things if the knowledge and tools are available.

Short of you making a whole new animation rig for females, I doubt you'll be able to by-pass the issues that our own animators had. As it is, I was referring to a walk that was since changed. But maybe this is the kind of work modders would be interested in addressing, I don't know. Something to request on the toolset forum, perhaps.

I wonder, how long does something like this take to perfect? The women all look & act pretty manly, and you'd think with 5 years in development, someone would sit down for a week or two and work on this very important part of the game to get it right.

Heh.

Sorry, but this statement makes me giggle. Image IPB

Jokes aside, you understand my complaint? A lot of other RPGs seem to get it right and aren't on as big of a budget or as long of a development time as DA.

I understand that you seem to think the animators had nothing better to work on or improve, or that those "other RPG's" didn't have their own trade-offs, yes.

To be honest, I can't see how they could've worked on these DA animations for five years. That would've had to be more than enough time to implement proper character movements as well as combat animations. And I agree with what's been said, in ME it all looks so much better. That may be related to the engine, but if BioWare wants to use their DA engine further, it needs to be much improved (not only in this regard).

Fair enough. I'm not going to comment on what our animators did or didn't work on, or their limitations (as I know neither all that well), but if you think the animations need to be improved so be it.
