That was the only thing that actually put me off - the walking like a guy part.

You missed the manly amble that all models had at one point. Every time we watched a scene where a female model needed to walk, one of us in the meeting would do a John Wayne impression.

The solution, of course, is to give female models their own rig -- which is something that hopefully will happen at some point.

I'd suspect majority of players are men, and i'd also suspect majority of men like women, and our (men, i mean) primal instincts beneath all this free will and abstract tought find women with more.. "expressed" lady parts more attractive ^_^

Some of the armors, chainmail for example, over-"expresses" s them bit IMO, but overall, this game is not that bad. Especially if you've seen some of the body replacer mods available for Oblivion..

I actually like that they don't walk differently.  You don't mince about in full plate, and when trudging through fields you don't mince around either. :P

True....
but I've only just played as Dalish elf, and elven mage.
None of them is wearing plate, and at times they were pretty skimpily clad.

I know it would make character creation more time-consuming, but I wish there were sliders for everything, not just the face. My female 2-handed warrior human should look much more toned and athletic than the default model, and if my City Elf  comes from the Alienage where food is hard to come by, shouldn't she be dangerously thin? Just a thought.

Aside from prominent boobs, one glaring thing I noticed in the Character Creator is that all the female models have soemthing really weird going on around the neck area.

1. choose a female preset

2. go down to hair and change her hair

3. turn her sideways

4. look at the neck/upper chest area

5. bawk at the weirdness

Seriously, what on earth is going on with the neck area of these female models when viewed from the side ? I'm surprised there weren't more threads about this, but I suppose it  looks better/less noticable when she is wearing armor or something.

P.S. Is this related to why Morrigan wears soemthing around her neck, and why a previous poster said that female models have something covering the collar ?

Sheesh folks, it's just fat, muscle, and glands. Put nipples on an arse and you have almost the same thing .

LOL  As a proud owner of a set of the afformentioned attributes I find this statment more than a little disturbing.

On topic well I guess we could do with a little more variety, especially when it comes to the more elderly citizens of Ferelden that seem to have very well preserved curves for their age. But hey I'm not going to complain too much that most NPC's are well endoud and attractive...if only there was a mod that did that out of game.Image IPB

Agree with it bein cool to be able to choose your 'Frame' & 'Build'. (Build as in muscle build, & Frame as in thin, average, or buff.) I wouldn't be surprised if this wasn't an option for DA1, likely have to wait for DA2. Image IPB

Also agree on female bust size. Bigger isn't always better. (Guys, call me a freak if ya must! I dare to be different! Image IPB) Personally, I like'em small, for then, they're both beautiful & cute at the same time giving them attractiveness greater than the sum of their parts. Can also say attractiveness out of proportion to their size. Big is good, but only just beautiful, not as powerful. Very big, starts to lose power since then they start seeming fake & unreal. (Like those stupid Barbie Dolls. May Barbie Dolls be eaten by a zombie kitten army! Image IPB)

Hope I managed to give my 1 1/2 cents in a tactful enough manner. /bow

I was a bit dissapointed when after 30 minutes with the Character creator and my Wife, we realised we made a face 90% the same as her, but couldn't shrink the chest size or the PCs frame. It's not game killing, and the hands are only slightly bothersome... It still would be nice if I could accurately create my Wife in game so I could pretend she actually likes games :P

I figured it was because you have to be able to put the same clothes/armor on everyone. In the Sims 2 also you can't change body shapes without getting custom meshes, and then you have to get custom clothes if you want them to not snap back to the typical frame whenever they get dressed.

Oh, and they wear that armor without stabbing themselves with the protrusions because the armor just clips through their head.

I don't find them especially Jordanesque, though they appear slightly larger than the average where I'm from. I tried Wolfva2's suggestion but the baby point blank refused, and I was ejected from court quite ungraciously. It's political correctness gone mad I tells ya.

From what I've heard animators talk about before, its common for female game characters to have slightly larger-than-average and somewhat oddly shaped breasts in order to deal with the simplified lighting engines that many games have. Like frat boys, simplified lighting engines have a tendency to completely ignore small breasts. Thus, small breasts mean that you have to get your own drinks at a frat party and that you end up looking like a teenage boy in video games.

With luck, more powerful computers will give us better lighting engines and more realistic models. I'm still hopeful. Morrigan is still drastically more realistic than Lara Croft.

This is a fine analogy.

I wish they had at least a basic body type selection. I happen to dislike huge...assets. And I wish my male rogue could have a wiry body, not look like Mr. McMuscles.

Then you could play an elf, that would solve this problem as they're much slender.

I know that this will cause a number of people on the forum here to cackle or even flame me on this but I'll note it anyway.

Why the heck does every single female in the game large chested?  How realistic is that?  It seems that the artists felt that larger was better and they might as well appeal to a juvenile audience.  Personally, I think it's silly and I just shake my head with every new female encounter where each one competes for being top-heavy.

I just thought that variety would be a bit more interesting...  you know...  to appeal to that juvenile side of things.

My guess is that there's some magic going on at the birth of females throughout the land and if they aren't born with at least a C-cup gene...they're prematurely aborted or still born.

Okay...flame away.

Large chests are in there to ****** off insecure feminist wankers.

Get over it. It's a subjective artist decision. If you don't like it, turn the game off.

I actually didn't like that the female elves were so dang skinny and small chested. The broad shoulders didn't help either. I thought elves were supposed to be the most attractive race, but I think a lot of the human women look much better, in the body and face. And some of the male elves just had cartoonishly proportioned faces.

The human females didn't need such large breasts perhaps, but I like that better than really small ones when I'm playing a female PC, because I identify with it more. The human females' chests weren't really that huge though, compared to other games. I care more that they look natural, not like balloons (Desire Demon I'm looking at you).

To the person who said all Bioware games give all women big breasts, I have to disagree. SW: KotOR didn't give all women huge breasts (except for Bastila of course, who seemed to have a custom model, and the Twi'lek women).

Mass Effect didn't give the women big breasts either except for Benezia. I'm actually bugged that in Mass Effect 2 there are several female party members with big chests and the PC still has to be small. But at least she has a nicely curved rear.

As it is, if you want a more slender/athletic female figure, play as an elf. If you want a more stocky/curvy figure, play as a dwarf. At least we get some sort of choice in DA:O.

Huh.  I personally liked this version of the male mage form.  There's nothing to say that male mages must never exercise or take care of themselves physically.  I approve of this over the emaciated weakling twig appearance.  Makes sense if you are an Arcane Warrior that you'd be more athletic.  Or if you wished to wear armor.

The problem isn't quite that they all share the same model, it's that they all share the same animation rig. So you end up with a female model being wider in the shoulders and narrower in the hips because they have the same rig as the male models. This is my understanding, anyhow -- I am not an animator.

Yeah, it really put me off that my pretty female human mage walks with the same broad-shouldered/masculine stride as my dwarf warrior. The models and animation in the game are top-notch otherwise (I think), so it's pretty jarring.

A lot of university students in Engineering and Science are buff, athletic guys.

There's no reason you can't be smart and fit. The idea that you can't appeals to those who aren't smart, or aren't fit, though.

Personally, and as a man I may be in the minority here, but I'd rather women in game have smaller breasts. For one thing, wouldn't the armor pinch those melons? Secondly, a woman is more then breast tissue, why make that the focus? Sheesh folks, it's just fat, muscle, and glands. Put nipples on an arse and you have almost the same thing .

I quite agree with these posts and share the surprise, I'm seeing posts about the body below the neck but I noticed the same thing about the neck itself, I found it very hard to gauge what size to make it that made it look reasonable on the doll AND the portrait. The size didn't necessarily correct the awkward shape either way.

Maybe the hands are a bit transgenderish too, but aside from all that, I didn't really see a problem with the bodies, for both. The line is drawn where it is (:SOMEWHERE) with every game, and some of the people that play them will disagree, but I thought this was quite generally successful and catered for most. Size enough to be very attractive for most, any smaller and they risk opposite complaints and/or not very good sales, and larger and they risk heavier ridicule. For a one-size-fits-all-possible-human-dimensions model I think they averaged it out quite well. If there was a slider for the assets they'd just come under fire for that too, of a more awkward nature, just from different crowds.

I actually liked my mages and females walking like a grizzled John Wayne. I'd be afraid of what companies or animators might think up for a 'feminine walk.' I wouldn't want my Grey Warden/Warrior/Leader FemPC sashaying around like she's trying to seduce everyone -- or just be there as eyecandy for dudes to watch. :P If it's something subtle as just changing the gait from leading with the shoulders (men) to leading with the hips (female), then I wouldn't mind.

It makes it easier for the armorer, since there are only two body-types to smith for. The standard female, and the standard male.. if you know the measurements, you can make it.
