That was the only thing that actually put me off - the walking like a guy part.

You missed the manly amble that all models had at one point. Every time we watched a scene where a female model needed to walk, one of us in the meeting would do a John Wayne impression.

The solution, of course, is to give female models their own rig -- which is something that hopefully will happen at some point.

I dug the fact that my rogue walked into various situtations with that confident stride. I hope that if a female rig is implimented, it doesn't turn into a cat walk.

The problem is when a female pulls out her weapons she walks like she just crapped herself.

Breasts, like hands, necks and weapons are oversized.
At least the breasts look natural, though, i.e. no melon-shaped implants.

An actual feminine gait would've been nice too.

I thought there was some difference in female models, but then again it could just be my eyes playing tricks on me. For example, Morrigan looks a little thinner than the human female model. And though the elf and human female models are basically the same, the elf does look significantly more petite/slender than the more curvaceous human female.

The breasts are kinda big, though.

I have yet to really use the elves, have not had Zev or played one yet but to me the dwarfs are the best made models in all ways. the armors look better on them then humans, they walk nicer and the women got proper bosoms!

If this even bothers the developers, then why not release the tools to the community to make the necessary changes? Or at least reveal the file formats? (Far as I know, the toolset doesn't allow editing of models and animations.) Just look at Oblivion and Fallout 3 to see how well the community can take care of these things if the knowledge and tools are available.

It's better than watching your male vampire in VTMB shake that behind..

Anyhow yeah it's a slight annoyance to me as well. Especially when you've got old women like Wynne looking like she just came from the operating table, no sag on those boulders.

Short of you making a whole new animation rig for females, I doubt you'll be able to by-pass the issues that our own animators had. As it is, I was referring to a walk that was since changed. But maybe this is the kind of work modders would be interested in addressing, I don't know. Something to request on the toolset forum, perhaps.

The boobs didn't bother me.

The man hands though...ugh.

Though what annoyed me the most was when ever my proper and polite female human noble sat down she would have her legs spread-apart like a boy. It drove me nuts.

Personally, and as a man I may be in the minority here, but I'd rather women in game have smaller breasts. For one thing, wouldn't the armor pinch those melons? Secondly, a woman is more then breast tissue, why make that the focus? Sheesh folks, it's just fat, muscle, and glands. Put nipples on an arse and you have almost the same thing .

That would really take the fun out of doing the motorboat Image IPB

Aside from the hands (which look like someone's just been electrocuted, or is arthritic), one of the uglier things I see are the outfits that leave the collarbones bare. The bones stick out like the character is starving, and the skin looks like part of the outfit rather than skin.

It's only a matter of time before players address this; at least one guy is working on a 'natural' mod that replaces the default body mesh, but it'll still be strapped to the one-animation-for-all system until someone can address that.

Women in Drakensang and The Witcher are generally more well-endowed than women in DA:O.

I agree. The combat running for the women is bad (probably due to having the male rig as David said). The out of combat running is much better. It's funny how in NWN the men ran like they had crapped themselves, whereas the women had a "feminine" run.

I too dislike the oversized women hands but I've commented on that many times in the past. I assume it's due to them needing to grasp the big weapons like the men do.

I think that's just in her custom outfit that no one else can wear. But take it off and her body changes to the default model.

What I HATE is the female human/elf models for leather armor. They have no natural curvature of the spine in the back like the female dwarves have in the same armor. Their spine goes straight down which makes them look really odd and ugly in the midsection from the side view. Heavier armor and clothing has the proper spinal curve.

Just pretend she's a flirtatious devil with quite a sense of humour and doing it deliberately, or something. I mean, we have to compensate for not having our chars just the way we want all the time, don't we?

What bothered me was the unatural back curve females have when in dalish armor... its just so unnatural, which is odd because the back looks fine in most other armor and cloths.

I found the female arms ridiculously bony. I don't know much as to how the leather outfits except the standard, studded, duster and dalish. All of them looked unnatural, but at least the Dalish one was bearable. As for the bossoms, the only thing that bothered me was that Morigan's was small until she took off her clothes, though I'm aware bras have the effect of making one's chest seem bigger than it is even without the use of pads.

It's a funny thing how often the female form is the hot topic of games, especially CRPGs. Not surprising though I suppose. It's hard to get absorbed into another world when there's a gender that looks so disturbingly unnatural that it makes me ever the more tempted to hit on that witty Templar than the half dressed witch. I'm not an animation expert though, nor am I a 3d artist. I couldn't say what the challenges are when designing a game. I can make educated guesses, sure, but in the end, there's probably something, somewhere, which caused them to come out how they came out. Maybe that was budget, time, tech, who knows...

What I do know? Mass Effect was one of the few games I can remember in recent history that in my opinion found the perfect middle ground on the female form. Yes, I know, they were all wearing full body armor. But it was pretty skin tight, and you got a good idea of the form. The animations were nice and the model was nice. Not too heavy, but not really overly skinny either. Granted it was another engine, and maybe that played some role somewhere in why they couldn't use similar methods. *shrug*.

What really bothers me the most about DA females though is one thing... there heads are always too small for their bodies. This may be an illusion caused by the width of the shoulders, but boy is it annoying.

Morrigan's running animation is possibly the least womanly thing I've ever seen, she runs a bit like how I'd picture Flemeth running, kinda crooked.

I wonder, how long does something like this take to perfect? The women all look & act pretty manly, and you'd think with 5 years in development, someone would sit down for a week or two and work on this very important part of the game to get it right.

Oh and yeah, the female chests are pretty huge, and kind of weird looking (very wide and sagging outwards, if you will). And there's only one model for everyone including Wynne.

Jokes aside, you understand my complaint? A lot of other RPGs seem to get it right and aren't on as big of a budget or as long of a development time as DA.

Breasts weren't large enough IMO.

There should have been a breast size slider in character creation.

I understand that you seem to think the animators had nothing better to work on or improve, or that those "other RPG's" didn't have their own trade-offs, yes.

Why the heck does every single female in the game large chested?  How realistic is that?

There are a lot of things about this game that aren't realistic. All the women are the same height as other women of their race. Some know magic and can shoot fireballs from their hands. Why are breasts the exception that demand attention?

So the breasts aren't small -- big deal. Is pointing that out supposed to automatically add points to your classyness score?

Prethen wrote...
It seems that the artists felt that larger was better and they might as well appeal to a juvenile audience.

Oh? It's juvenile for people to prefer larger breasts than you yourself would personally prefer? And why is that?

If one must force the character's persona to fit the avatar's habits, I think it would be better to presume she's got a fair bit of butch/tomboy running in her.
This does a better job of explaining why she draws a sword instead of shrieking and cowering behind the nearest male.
