I just purchased ME 1 from Amazon for 5.99 today. I downloaded from amazon and installed (did not activate through steam and it would not let me activate through Origin).
Whenever I hit play or configure I receive the error message "Mass Effect Configuration Utility has stopped working". This occurs whether I run the mass effect launcher as admin or not.
I have tried running both the mass effect config utility and the masseffectlauncher.exe as admin separately with no success.

find the MassEffect.exe file and run as admin -- running the config and launcher fails always. -- find the regular "M" logo masseffect.exe

1. Patch it immediately. Windows 7 and the unpatched game are totally incompatible.
