Agreed. If they come out with a 'Retake Omega' dlc, then Patriarch could be an option?

Otherwise, Aria. Kolyat or Feron could also be neat, though it might be hard to make them different enough from Thane. 

Edit: If they were ever to do post-campaign dlc (unlikely, I know), then I'd like to see Major Coats as a squaddie.

Realistically, it's unlikely to be anyone that could have been killed in previous games, as both from a economic point of view and a fairness one, Bioware is probably not going to turn round and say "Yeah, sorry, those people who liked Jack/Grunt/*insert preferred ME2 character here* get an extra squaddie, and you get nothing because you got them killed." Nor would they create two entirely different characters and storylines to fill that slot (one for the people who have the character alive and one for those who don't) as it would probably eat up too many resources to keep the DLC reasonably cheap.

So, this probably rules out most of the old characters I like, as they could be dead. That being said, I'd take a batarian squadmate happily, but *only* if there's a lot of potential for arguing between them and Shepard over the crap the batarians have pulled that relates to them, and vice-versa (cf. Mindoir, Elysium, Talitha, Bring Down The Sky, Arrival...sure I've missed a few). Option to boot them off the ship should be there as well, because there's no way in hell my Shepard would have one of them on her crew.

An elcor squadmate would be awesome, because, well, it's an elcor. In combat. Bit unlikely though as unless it's a remarkably swift elcor it might cause a problem for squad movement/direction. Alternatively, yahg squadmate! Basically like Grunt from ME2 except there's a risk he'll actually attack Shepard if she shows weakness, a la Sten from DA: O.

Thane belongs in the life support room on the Normandy.

Unless, as previously stated, Thane moves to Shepard's room instead. The Normandy and Shepard need Thane. He needs to be somewhere. The Drell have been written out of ME3 (excluding Multiplayer).

This is the only game without a krogan squadmate, and a badass salarian like Major Kirrahe would be sweet too. A batarian would be nice, but considering their animosity towards humans and especially Shepard...
