At the end of ME2 i felt like a hero... even if Jack and half the normandy died. Ive done 4 playthroughs in ME2. Plus ME2 had more dialogue choices, which does help with the replay value.

ME3 was a nice collection of mini-stories, but the story as a whole was a let-down.

It's a combination between A) people liking aspects of it more than ME3, and B) nostalgia.

Similar with the Zelda series really, but it all depends on what happens when the next Mass Effect game is released.

Dialogue choices which were pretty much the same thing with little to no variation on the results. Middle option just gave a response that was then answered by another character that Shepard would have answered with if you picked paragon or renegade choices. ME3 actually had difference.

This is precisely how I would describe ME2. I don't think I could say it any better.

That's almost certainly a reason why they did it, Grimskull. That it required less work on their part was probably the icing on the strudel. I personally could take it or leave it.

The Hammerhead had potential, but like so many things in Bioware's long history, it never lived up to it.

I didn't mind the thermal clips but a lot of people raged at that, too. That was mostly a design choice though, not really attributable to dev laziness as that actually required more work to implement than to leave the original overheating system.

I loved the mako... going over mountains took some skill, did love seeing it in action in ME3 though.. brought back some good memories.

Ahh the hammerhead, we had like 2-3 missions with it..? and those felt out of place because we didn't regularly use it. Still... jumping over gaps and etc was fun.

Thermal clips just always felt like a step down. Nothing for me to rage over about, but its like how they took heavy weapons out of ME3. We can pick them up when the devs felt they were necessary but we don't always have them.... just feels like step down. Why include a feature in one game, and radically change/remove it? which I guess is how I feel about the Mako/hammerhead.

Yes, you are correct, it's about the ending.

Yes, they tend to blind people, which is the case here.

And there is the problem with ME2. Even if ME2 never existed it would cause nothing to change in ME3 as a whole showing how little to no plot development there was in ME2.

Its like people getting bugged by spoiling themselves by reading the ending of the book first and not liking what they see before they actually start reading the story.

Well they aren't really mini-stories if they connect with the actual plot.  ME2 was literally a bunch of mini-stories, since the focus was on the squadmates and their individual stories.  The main plot of the game really didn't do much till the very end and I think ME3 was even better in that department up till it's last few cutscenes.

Auto Dialog and the clear separation of the citadel hub-area and everything else as combat areas makes ME3 feel more like a linear shooter than being in a living universe. While ME2 too went several steps back in that regard the overall quality jump kind made up for it. ME3 just went so far that it'S piratically impossible to play your Shepard in the ME universe. You are forced to watch an interactive movie.

I think there are a few reasons some people like ME2 more than ME3:
1. They hate the ME3 ending.
2. They may like the ME2 companions more (legion, and thane anyone?).
3. They liked visiting and exploring more hub worlds, like omega, not just the citadel.
4. They probably liked the suicide run for ME2 end game, where your choices actually had a huge emotional impact (not saying this isn't also in ME3).
5. This may just be me, but ME2 seemed to have more content.

As for me, I like both equally, and since I haven't finished 3 yet (right at the end, don't want to beat it yet) I shouldn't judge.

About 99% of ME3 game was great but the ending a kick in the nuts...left the question did i save Earth or not? Since ME3 game was stating take back Earth...then there are the ploy holes where not alot is tied in from ME1 and ME2...
1. agreed.
2. romaced with the ones in ME2 that isn't on the Normandy in ME3...yet still shown Liara's face as a LI after choosing an "A, B, C" ending.
3. agreed. the only time Normandy used here guns was in ME2 and beginning of ME3 that's it...so lack of assist in space battles in reaper infested universes.
4. longer final battle and time limited.
5. ME1&2 yes; 3 not so much. graphics loading screens great... story...weak with plot holes...not alot of tying with ME1&2

I am having such a hard time playing the first one.  I've only just started but the AI and combat is SOOOO bad, especially after ME2 and ME3, it just kills it for me.  I'm only a few hours into the game, but I keep seeming to have to force myself to play it and I just can't lol Maybe it would've been better had I played it first, but going backwards, it's not a game that works extremely well I think.

I'll get through it eventually, but it's so hard to get myself pumped to play it when I could be playing Skyrim...or Witcher 2...or Deus Ex...Or Mass Effect 3 lol

ME2 was garbage story-wise. ME3 is also a total mess.

I honestly can't tell you which one is "worse". But probably 2.

Well there is no discussion. I prefer ME1 and see ME2 and 3 as Gears with dialogue options. They're ok in a blow the crap out everything game but I preferred the seemingly larger game world of 1 to run around exploring.
I'm the sort of player that has to check every corner out, even if it looks empty (inb4 empty planets blah blah blah)

And you'll never accept that, and would more than likely try to bleat on about how "...this is bad..."  and "...I don't like that..." but frankly I can't be bothered to listen to/read your opinions as they are just that, your opinions. Which I don't agree with.
So no, there is no discussion.

ME1 is story-wise
ME2 is character-wise
ME3 is gameplay-wise
So choose which one is more interesting to you ...

But I like ME3 because I see what my choices did, while ME2 might have had the better atmosphere...?

Need more time :D

I was going to come in here with a list of reasons why one may consider ME2 better than ME3, but it seems like the large majority of them have been stated. I will say one thing though.

I really enjoyed the powers in ME3 more, and to me that was a major con in ME2. Booting up the game to see a list of like, what, four or five powers for the Infiltrator? They don't even get Sabotage or Overload, which is complete bull****. Seeing the list of powers in ME3 was refreshing.

It's a shame about the ending though.

Why? Because it is. It's quite possibly one of the best games, ever.

The combat in ME3 was a vast improvement, correcting the oversimplified inventory and powers, and bringing better level layout and enemies but it failed to impress (in comparison) on all other accounts: notably the horrible sidequests, the oft-mentioned autodialogue and other railroading – we're supposed to be playing a game, not watching a movie – and the story (even without the ending) was weaker, although the pacing was reasonably good.

And, of course, ME2 was uplifting, where ME3 was just depressing.

Well to be fair ME1 was the only game with its own story besides ME3. ME3's being far more forced. ME2 was the character driven build up to the finale which is why its overall story should be thought of in light of that.
