Why can we see mutilated genitals, but our LIs are covered up?

No excuse for Traynor and Sheps clothed shower scene. I lol'd at that one.

What? You don't shower in your underwear?

The sad thing is, there are actually people so repressed and afraid thatt they are showering in bathing suits or underwear.

I can totally imagine Shepard as one these people.

That's a Banshee downstairs, and we all know what's upstairs.

Why show that, but not the natural form? What message does it send when we only show corrupted genitals?

I'm serious. In ME1 and ME2 the no nudity thing at least made sense from some perspectives, because there was no nudity. Now we have nudity, but only on monsters. Something doesn't add up here.

Disclaimer
The Mass Effect 3 Story and Campaign seems to be about exploring new worlds and alien creatures. Why does every single culture in the galaxy cover its genitals, when this isn't even the situation on Earth?

Might I also add that this screenshot is from the game we had to prove we had to see this forum.

Don't you dare criticising their ART!!!!!!

Because the sex scenes are supposed to be tasteful, not hardcore pornos. Having said that though BioWare really needs to get rid of the underwear that keeps showing up during scenes where characters should be nude because it's just ridiculous. The sex scenes in DA:O for example looked terrible because of that. I think BioWare just needs to go back to framing the camera so during these scenes you get implied nudity or sideboob or an ass shot but nothing too crass. The sex scenes from ME1 are a good example of this. Sadly I think Fox News rattled them and now they're too scared to do that.

It's a cultural thing: North Americans have no problems with violence, even if it amounts in the excessive, but with nudity.

This kinda reminds me of that guy that said he wouldn't let his children play Heavy Rain if it had nudity in it. Apparently he felt he could explain away the murders, mutilations, torture to his children, but someone taking a shower in the nude was too abstract a concept.

Assumingly the kids were blindfolded as babies before being allowed to breast-feed as well.

Goes hand in hand with Christianity's objection of lust, and your society's double standards, like being prude on the outside+ouraging every time there's a hint at homosexuality or some nipplegate things going on in games, whilst being the major producer of porn worldwide at the same time.

Don't forget EDI's ****** slipped the net as well.

I think the issue is more if its subtle nudity or goes unoticed, a full love scene that is has full nudity is slapping you in the face so the regulators notice it. If they only sneak nudity in (say shep walks in on someone in shower) and its only a couple of shots or has no real sexual context, jack's outfit in ME 2 for example, people who would normaly care now don't.
Stupid I know.

Would have been pretty hard to take a banshee as some evil corrupted thing if it was wearing a thong.

This thread is going to get locked.I'm going to try and explain without sounding too crass.

When someone is turned into a husk, the water is sucked out of the body.
So if Asari labia are anything like what humans have, it may look distorted like that picture.
And since there are no liquids in the body to naturally lubricate the vagina, it would literally dry up and become nothing more than a..well you know.Again, like in the picture.

I agree with others on the "Violence is OK, but nudity is not" argument. It just teaches kids from an early age that their bodies are disgusting but killing is okay. That whole logic is a crock of s^!t.
To make matters worse, monsters are allowed to be nude.It just reinforces the idea that the naked body should be abhorred, regardless if that message is intentional or not.
While it can be argued that some monsters are mindless and/or violent and don't have any concepts of decency,it doesn't justify the reason why normal nudity is forbidden.

I totally agree. They don't have to show anything, but the underwear is ridiculous. They did Liara properly mind you. They just forgot about everyone else. And the Traynor scene was laugh out loud hilarious.

Both Europe and America have very similar game rating systems (PEGI and an ESRB) where sex is taken into account.   My understanding is that once a game gets rated past the "Mature" or "16" stage it severly limits distribution options.  Both rating systems have 18+ ("Adult") ratings allowances but this would be the equivelent of being rated "X" instead of "R" for movies and is generally avoided.

The easiest way past this is to allow mods like the TES series since it would obviously be very easy to retexture for nudity.

I remember that when ME1 was new, there was an outcry that you could see Ashley/Liaras butt in the love scene. I believe that Fox News went as far as to say that Mass Effect "let children see porn". Apparently some media outlets claimed you could sleep with anyone in ME and even that it's a rape scene.

American "news channels" is another reason we can't have nice things.

I suggest you watch the FNC segment again; they presented both sides and debated the issue.  The Spike TV gamer clearly presented the facts and the opposing view appeared very uninformed.  The "evil" Martha Macallum basically gushed over how complex and elaborate the game was and was generally impressed by it.

The overall consensus of the panel afterwards was that they want to avoid any government enforced censorship and its up to parents to monitor what their kids are playing.

I guess some people don't understand that people exist out there with opposing viewpoints and it's up to you to be informed and defend your own position.

Yes but in the panel they also were making decisions while actually being uninformed. And a lot of it was just dismissing Geoff with stupid outdated research.

Blood, horror, murder, mutilation. All of those are okay for kids to see. But we all know the sight of a female nipple requires an instant AO rating and public condemnation by every politician in the world.

It's a sad world we live in.

The bottom line is that Fox News has no actual power in this case.  The ESRB was formed in 1994 (2 years before FNC existed) at the behest of Tipper Gore and the government and they determine what games can and can't have in them.
