Why can we see mutilated genitals, but our LIs are covered up?

I remember that when ME1 was new, there was an outcry that you could see Ashley/Liaras butt in the love scene. I believe that Fox News went as far as to say that Mass Effect "let children see porn". Apparently some media outlets claimed you could sleep with anyone in ME and even that it's a rape scene.
American "news channels" is another reason we can't have nice things.
I suggest you watch the FNC segment again; they presented both sides and debated the issue. The Spike TV gamer clearly presented the facts and the opposing view appeared very uninformed. The "evil" Martha Macallum basically gushed over how complex and elaborate the game was and was generally impressed by it.
The overall consensus of the panel afterwards was that they want to avoid any government enforced censorship and its up to parents to monitor what their kids are playing.
I guess some people don't understand that people exist out there with opposing viewpoints and it's up to you to be informed and defend your own position.
Yes but in the panel they also were making decisions while actually being uninformed. And a lot of it was just dismissing Geoff with stupid outdated research.
The bottom line is that Fox News has no actual power in this case. The ESRB was formed in 1994 (2 years before FNC existed) at the behest of Tipper Gore and the government and they determine what games can and can't have in them.
No arguement from me. I was just saying that Fox News was incredibly biased in the way that they covered that particular story.. What we need is people in their 20's and 30's rating games..

What are you talking about? What segment did you watch? Ms. Macallum outright said she didn't play the game and only watched the "sex scene". They ignored Geoff Keighley's comments on the complexity of the game and how it is rated Mature. Macallum then went on to talk about how "kids will always choose the sex scene" and how it will corrupt young people.kleindropper wrote...

The panel at the end commented "whatever happened to Pong and Pacman". Were you high when you saw that Fox News discussion? Because you are so far from reality it is ridiculous.
The segment was so biased it generated a wave of youtube parodies.

Yeah...my chosen and primary field of knowledge is politics. In the pursuit of that goal, I've had to watch way more FNC than is healthy for a sane person. FNC does not honor the principle of charity in representing "both sides" of the issue; in the best case scenario, they merely build straw men. The channel is toxic, and were this in any way a just world the channel would have gone under over a decade ago. Unfortunately, this is not a just world, and FNC actually argued before the Florida Courts of Appeal in 2003 that flatly lying to their audience is a First Amendment right and won.

Yeah they do.
I think it's silly that Bioware can design these fantastic alien creatures, but they can't design genitals.

Because the sex scenes are supposed to be tasteful, not hardcore pornos. Having said that though BioWare really needs to get rid of the underwear that keeps showing up during scenes where characters should be nude because it's just ridiculous. The sex scenes in DA:O for example looked terrible because of that. I think BioWare just needs to go back to framing the camera so during these scenes you get implied nudity or sideboob or an ass shot but nothing too crass. The sex scenes from ME1 are a good example of this. Sadly I think Fox News rattled them and now they're too scared to do that.
I totally agree. They don't have to show anything, but the underwear is ridiculous. They did Liara properly mind you. They just forgot about everyone else. And the Traynor scene was laugh out loud hilarious.
Exactly! They could have handled the nudity with different camera angles, like for Liara, it's tasteful. We're not asking for nutsacks dangling generously in front of the screen, we're just saying all these scenes in underwear take away from the realism and the experience.
Besides, art is full of nudity, so if videogames are art, why should they cater to FOX and their complaints? Shouldn't they fight for their artistic integrity?

Well, I'm sort of glad, that sex cut scenes don't go into some 20-minute porn clips. Though the romance could have been a bit more sophisticated than LI automatically falling in love with you whenever you show signs of affection. Jack wasn't that bad, but other romance stories are pretty unimaginative.
Oh, and yes, please, someone make me unsee the OP's pic.
Jack's was pretty much the same if didn't romance her, it was terribly unimaginative. Apart from a few lines of dialog and a makeout session it was the exact same. Didn't have to be a 20 minute porn clip, but something more then "yea we'll get laid after the war" and never see each other again.

You have to be joking right? Who has time to worry about their genitals while they are chomping on your face? Nudity really should'nt be a big deal people. Go look at yourself in the mirror the next time you shower.

Either way I won't see anything because I shower with mah clothes on like Specialist Traynor!
But yeah, I don't think anyone sane would be standing there checking out Banshee azures unless they want to get killed.
Moral of the story: run away from mutilated genitals.

Apparently you are allowing your own biases to blind you. If anything, Martha was biased towards Geoff. She thanked only Geoff for coming on the show and closed the debate segment with "it's a fascinating game, I'm amazed at the artistry and what it looks like, absolutely phenomenal." And you are confusing McCallum for the debate guest, who was clearly shown to be uninformed. Maybe you are confusing pointed, conflicting questions meant to prompt discussion between the debate guests for bias?
You also apparently lack the ability to view it from the panel's perspective as parents. And do you disagree with the final findings of the panel? "The government cannot and should not censor everything coming across the web and in video games. At the end of the day it's up to parents to control what their kids are seeing." - the whole panel, including Martha agreed with this, even though acknowledging it would be difficult.
As for the Pac-man comment, she was referencing Pac-man to show how old she felt compared to the complex games of today.
As noted, I reference actual quotes from the video in my assertion, so please document your accusations in kind.

Yes, liberals love to rail against FNC but are completely mum when people with real governmental power (such as Hillary Clinton and Tipper Gore) propose FEDERAL legislation regulating video game content (ref. Family Entertainment Protection Act) or when Democrats like California state senator Leland Yee pass laws that attempt to fine video game makers out of existance.
These types of people should be the focus of your ire.

That gives Fox News license to misrepresent games, the game's developers, and the gaming community to a point that borders on slanderous how, exactly? And yes, they did. I watched the segment on Youtube just prior to this to remember it precisely, not that it was necessary given I saw that segment live when it originally aired and it was such an indelible piece of crap I remember it well to this day. It was nothing short of typical Fox News straw men and dog whistles under a vague, transparent to any viewer who thinks critically while watching disguise of plausible deniability.
To what end, to "warn" parents about the damaging influence of popular culture on their children? That's an old canard that's reared its ugly head with every new form of media entertainment to date: radio, television, music (rock, jazz, blues, R&B, soul, rap, take your pick), film, pen-and-paper RPG's, the list goes on ad nauseum. In any iteration it's never been anything but a transparent facade for generational conflict waged by fearful and ignorant elders who refuse to go quietly into the night of mortality.
The message is the exact same -- games are somehow dangerous and hurting kids. Both camps blame the industry. And, last I checked, not bearing false witness (read, being truthful and forthcoming in one's dealing especially when one has an ethical responsibility to do so) is as much -- hell, more by orders of magnitude -- a "traditional family value" as dutiful parenting. Yet, I don't see you calling Fox out for bearing false witness against the game industry and gamers.
So, with all due respect you can stuff your white knighting for Fox News straight back up your ass where it belongs.

Ah, more insulting blowhard statements without any documentation to back it up; I would expect nothing less. So apparently it was slanderous of FNC to say that Mass Effect was "a fascinating game, I'm amazed at the artistry and what it looks like, absolutely phenomenal."
And I'm guessing you don't have kids based on your rant.
