Yes, liberals love to rail against FNC but are completely mum when people with real governmental power (such as Hillary Clinton and Tipper Gore) propose FEDERAL  legislation regulating video game content  (ref. Family Entertainment Protection Act)  or when Democrats like California state senator Leland Yee pass laws that attempt to fine video game makers out of existance.

What liberals are you talking about and what does this have to do with banshee snatch.

Anybody on this board who first brought up Fox News as the source of all ills has refused to acknowledge the true sources of video game censorship.

I like boobs and ass shots as much as the next guy. But honestly, it's not that big of a deal. I played the games for the game play and more importantly the story. I don't think turning the "love scenes" into softcore porn would have done anything but generate negative publicity for the game.

If you want nudity on your monitor, there are plenty of websites that can give you what it is you are looking for.

I'd say it's an American thing. I'm American, so I can get away with saying this. Conservative parents are the main problem. They're cool with porn, but not video game nudity? Really, who cares? Same thing with the FCC. Both groups want to drag us back to 1800s. Just deal with it people, you're annoying me.

I doubt conservative parents are cool with porn.. :?

Ah, more insulting blowhard statements without any documentation to back it up; I would expect nothing less.  So apparently it was slanderous of FNC to say that Mass Effect was "a fascinating game,  I'm amazed at the artistry and what it looks like, absolutely phenomenal."

And I'm guessing you don't have kids based on your rant.

You know, I generally don't waste my time arguing with FNC white knights, but here you go:

One of their panelists compares Mass Effect to hardcore pornography, calling it "Luke Skywalker meets Debbie Does Dallas". The entire segment was based upon a grossly counterfactual premise: there is explicit sexual content in Mass Effect. So again, how do you justify Fox News bearing false witness? I'm guessing you're a "family values" kind of guy, so please enlighten me.

I don't think you understand the issue. I'd rather have fade to black romance scenes than seeing a woman take a shower in her underwear, it not only unrealistic, it's also hilarious, which tends to.. kill the moment..

Yes I've watched it several times, and to put it in context, he was discussing purchasing games for his 6 year old daughter; he probably didn't want her playing a game where one of the goals is to bone Liara. Apparently for you, a different perspective from yours equates to lying.

As for the sex scene itself, I'd place it in the hard PG-13 area, although I'm not sure they allow for exposed asses in PG-13.  I believe the games rating system needs to be shifted to match the movie models since they are beginning to somewhat merge as a medium.

And no I'm not a family values guy but have empathy for those who find it  difficult to manage children's exposure to such things.  Who knows, maybe these games are the root cause for creating posters who tell other posters to shove things up their ass.

You yourself label the sexual content in Mass Effect as "PG-13 content". Which is fine, I agree. However, that does not make it "full digital nudity", "engag[ing] in graphic sex", "[not] showing women as being valued for anything other than sexuality", let alone anything comparable to Debbie Does Dallas. That fact stands for itself, which is that Fox News is whether through journalistic negligence or willful deception misrepresenting the game as obscene.

That well and truly exceeds expectations of "a different perspective". That's flatly a true or false dichotomy. What Fox News says about the game is demonstrably false, whether from a standpoint of legality or contemporary societal norms. I can't help but notice the fact you have yet to actually defend that. So, for the third time, please enlighten me.

because there are plenty of people out there who disprove of anything sexual, And videogames. So put those two things together. I mean everybody knows that some people get upset from same sex relationships in ME3, ME2 and ME1. So no surprise they would not show it.
By the way I admit that I would like to see more in the love scenes especially with Tali.

Overall I don't blame them for being more tasteful (sort of), but I'm disappointed that Miranda never got a butt shot.

Oh, so it's tasteful to have every female character in a skin tight catsuit and heels, and to give a robot a ******. I didn't know. Bioware is so hypocritical. They ****ing censored the statue of David. What the **** happened to Artistic Integrity? That's one of the most well known peices of art in history and they censored it, I doubt they had Michelangelo's concent to censor it.

Frankly, I don't care about seeing nudity in cutscenes...All I Wanted was to see Tali's face and not some photoshopped stock photo of a nameless chick you could find in a new wallet.

For the first time since ME1 I actually liked the some of the romance scenes in a Bioware game. Liara and Ashleys were really well done.

Tali's was laughable. (Why couldn't you just grow a pair of balls and show her face? Her romance through the series felt so disconnected because of that stupid mask. Shepard see's it, they give us a photo of her, why not model it so the romance scenes can be more enjoyable?)

That's it for the male romance scenes right?

Haven't experienced the female romance scenes so I can't comment.

Though these were answers to other issues, I think they apply most everywhere.

Answer from one BW person: They ran out of time.

Answer from another BW person: They were running out of (funding).

But that event happenned after ME1. Or are we talking about something earlier than that?

Happened after DA O..which did have bare breasts

DA:O didn't have bare breasts when I played it and I played it on launch. There was something about Broodmothers but that is more udders on a cow than breasts on a woman.

Wish this thread had a warning: "Banshee crotch inside"

I remember that when ME1 was new, there was an outcry that you could see Ashley/Liaras butt in the love scene. I believe that Fox News went as far as to say that Mass Effect "let children see porn". Apparently some media outlets claimed you could sleep with anyone in ME and even that it's a rape scene.

American "news channels" is another reason we can't have nice things.

I suggest you watch the FNC segment again; they presented both sides and debated the issue.  The Spike TV gamer clearly presented the facts and the opposing view appeared very uninformed.  The "evil" Martha Macallum basically gushed over how complex and elaborate the game was and was generally impressed by it.

The overall consensus of the panel afterwards was that they want to avoid any government enforced censorship and its up to parents to monitor what their kids are playing.

I guess some people don't understand that people exist out there with opposing viewpoints and it's up to you to be informed and defend your own position.

Yes but in the panel they also were making decisions while actually being uninformed. And a lot of it was just dismissing Geoff with stupid outdated research.

The bottom line is that Fox News has no actual power in this case.  The ESRB was formed in 1994 (2 years before FNC existed) at the behest of Tipper Gore and the government and they determine what games can and can't have in them.

Of course Fox has no power in this case.
But with a s**tstorm like that, it's not unlikely that BW decided to avoid the same controversy again.

Now you are mixing in the comments of the guest specifically brought in as "opposition" to the gamer with the rest of the panel.  That is called a "debate" and if FNC disallowed liars in their debates then no politician would ever be allowed on FNC.  In this case Geoff was given ample opportunity to make his own counterpoints.

As for "full digital nudity", it sure doesn't look like they are wearing any clothes in the cutscene, so that is a factual statement., and yes they are obviously shown engaging in sex, so that is also a true statement.

It's seems that your problem is that some on the panel found the game to be obscene.  I don't know how you can "misrepresent" somebody's personal and genuine opinion based mainly on their perspective of being the parents of young gamers.  You also totally discount the fact that their solution is for parents to read the label and decide for themselves if the game is right for them or their children without any government censorship getting involved.

This solution has no effect on you and no effect on what Bioware decides to show in their games.  The factors that DO have an effect are the ESRB rating and the sales limitations made by some large retailers based on those ratings.  Again I state, that's where gamers need to focus their efforts.

Well, Fox News didn't deter Bioware from putting other things in-game, or in Dragon Age, so why would it now? After all this success, I don't think it was Fox that made Bioware more "conservative". They don't really have an excuse.

becasuse they are owned by EA and EA has a reputation to maintain, Once EA fully implemented the YES men the games stopped being mature for mature gamers they started becoming rated for everyone type of for everyone to play.

Ew! Girls are gross! Why would you want to see any of that in a video game?

On a more-serious note, it's because society has a broad problem with sexuality. On the one hand you have those who want all of it to be kept in private, and on the other you have those who go around talking about it like it's everybody's business.

At the moment we have the two extremes pulling at each other.

And then you have video games like Witcher that deal with it childishly (Witcher 2 does a much better job, but is still childish at points).

Personally, I thought ME3's Liara scene was very tastefully done. You don't need to show everything to show everything.

Nor do you need to hide it, for that matter, but...

No doubt we'll eventually get to the point where it's normal and irrelevant. Hopefully.
