I think you're overestimating the degree of creative control that EA exerts over its individual game studios. I'm pretty sure a deadline was set that probably contributed to the endings being so bad, but in the end this is on Bioware's head. They wrote in the Catalyst, they ripped off Deus Ex, they destroyed the franchise.

I hope your right, but they said it them selves. That Shepard's is at an end.

Love your post. I have thought this also. All EA cares about is the bottom line. God it makes me angry. What they are doing is actually the opposite of the Artistic integrity they supposedly cherish

Stargazer did say he'll tell one more story about "The Shepard". If he meant an upcoming DLC that may take place after the end of part 3 or a new sequel, I don't know.

Or Buzz could be trolling...

Without Shep? With the lies we've heard? With the direction the game is going?

NOT. INTERESTED.

I don't believe Shepard's story is over, I think Shepard still has some more ass to kick.

I mean, did Masterchief's story end when the Covenant were defeated and the Flood erradicated? no, so just because the Reapers have gone (the degree in which they've gone depends on what colour you chose...) Shepard could still be take on another galactic threat.

There are many ways to continue the series. Look at my idea for ME4. In my Signature.

If they did, it'd be without Casey Hudson. He's stated he doesn't want to do any Mass Effect games post-ME3/Shepard. I highly doubt there will be any sequels unless EA uses their death-grip on BioWare to force them to pump some crap out for the sake of taking fan money...

Which is exactly what I think EA is doing now.

Its not really that complicated, your choice at the end of ME3 can only really be 1 of 3 things...so 3 different variables.

If there is to be a post ME3 game I wouldn't be surprised if one of the ending would be "canonized" to facilitate the game. They'd probably go with destroy. There's no way you could write a character based story that could work whatever the ending as they all change too much of the universe.

There is so much they can do to continue the Shepard story. I'd like for it to continue because I can see great things, but if BioWare doesn't want to continue it and EA is forcing them to, then I say end it here. No one wants crap from people who don't put their best work into something.

Shepard's story is over with.

If there is to be an ME4, it will involve a new hero/heroine, new companions, and a new adventure.

And I'll throw in my vote for "no prequels". There isn't enough wiggle room in a prequel, as opposed to a sequel, which offers plenty of room to play with story-wise.

BioWare has already said when making ME1 that there will only be 3 in the series. With the destruction of the Mass Relays they have prety much made sure that happens as any more ME games will now either break cannon or leave even bigger plotholes than ME3.

Depending on your choice(s), in the cough*finale*cough, there most certainly could be any of the three endings carried forth,
A: control= no Shepard but still a galaxy of possible PCs.
B: Synthesis, all races would be cyborgish.
C:Destroy, life goes on.

During your startup, you're asked for the previous save, or default to any pre-rendered beginning.

This is all going to be in the distant future though.

Once again. BioWare said that, but did ever EA say the same thing? And EA is known for forcing companies to milk franchises to make more money on an already established name. Mass Effect is certainly a money maker for EA and can you see them actually releasing a Mass Effect 4 (No one ever said there wouldn't be a ME4) without having Shepard and his squadmates, who make EA the most money because people are invested to these characters? Because I certainly can't. Having Shepard on the cover of any Mass Effect game is gauranteed big bucks for EA, no way Mass Effect continues without Shepard with EA in charge.

With the way these endings were made and handled I will not be picking up ME4 if they make it. Nor will I be picking up any EA or Bioware game moving forward.

1. Why would EA want Mass Effect to just end, more specifcally Shepard's story, when it is the story and characters that make them the most money out of any other game that BioWare can produce?

That's a bit of an oversimplification. SWTOR has already breached the 2 million sales mark, with 1.7m subscribers, (the majority now paying- past trial period).

As far as total EA sales, Battlefield 3 had over 8 million SALES, (not shipments), in the first month.

If EA wanted pure sales revenue, they'd likely look at the mess ME3 has caused, (their fault or not), and immediately consider liquidating certain chunks of Bioware's assets for repurpose into other EA branches.

Again, I believe BioWare are going the more action/adventure route, which is a bad thing because gameplay was never their forte, it was all about story, characters and player interaction. Obviously EA doesn't think there is a market there, which is obviously lunacy.

I already have Epic Game, Naughty Dog, etc that make awesome OTT action games and then we have/had BioWare for telling amazing stories and crafting some of the best characters in gaming.

I'm replaying Mass Effect 1 now and my God, it's so good. It feels awesome having control of Shepard again.
