So this is a theory of mine that I came up with based on what the star child told us about the whole "created rebel agaisnt the creators."

My thoughts basically go along the lines that billions and billions of years ago the reapers were actually created by a race of super advanced organic beings. They invented the FTL travel and the basis for the mass relays and the citadel but presumably they needed to build these AIs to complete them. Based on what the Star child has told us the AIs inevitably rebelled against their creators. Following me so far? Some time later they realised, in their infinite knowledge, that this cycle that "organics will be destroyed by the synthetics they create" will continue forever and they must stop this from happening. The reapers then re-programmed the Mass relays and the Citadel to their own needs and fled off into dark space for the next 50,000 years.

Okay, I realise that this theory is pretty flimsy. It is based off something that was already really flimsy, but basically I came up with the idea entirely from what the Star Child said. What do you think of it?
