I want a character who can pick off enemies from afar using a bow and then have no issues going into melee with  duel weapons when the enemy closes in. Bow will be my primary weapon resorting only to melee when I have to.

Because of the use of bows and duel weapons I will need a high Dexterity which is naturally suited towards a rogue with pumped up dexterity and cunning however the rogue would be kind of squishy and wouldn't really be able to stand toe to toe when the enemy closes in.

A warrior build on the other hand will have a higher base damage and higher hitpoints along with other abilities that allow me to stand toe to toe a little longer and prob have a bit more staying power.

Is a warrior build or a rogue build going to be the best for this class? Elve , human or Dwarf.

I think I am favoring an elf warrior but I'm not to sure. The rogue looks like it might be the natural choice because it has the ranger specilization but the ranger spec looks useless unless I want a pet which I could care less about

Thoughts?

I'm having a similar problem making this decision. I've played through the Dalish Elf origin as a warrior, mostly an archer but moving to sword and shield when enemies get close. The Dalish Elf warrior starts with dual weapon sweep as a starting talent so that would definitely benefit your build. In my build however it is a wasted point. I want to wear heavier armor and be able to take some damage too, but I'm worried I'll have to spread my stat points too thin.

I can't find any real consensus on whether a warrior or rogue will make the best archer. Anyway, I think if you want to stand toe to toe with enemies when they get close, I would go with warrior. You basically want to be a ranged mini-tank, and the rogue talents are more suited to backstabbing and stealth. Since you want to duel wield, I would go with Dalish elf since they get the free point to dual weapon sweep. You would put more points into strength for wearing heavier armor, but I really don't know how much dexterity would be needed for ranged damage and using bows.

I hope someone smarter than me looks into this soon.

Why should the warrior make more damage? There are no class specific boni.

If you gave a Rogue and a Warrior same lvl, stats, skills and equipment they would do the same damage.

The only passive difference is: -Warriors will get a little more health and stamina per lvl up( 1 hitpoint and 1 stamina point difference per lvl. + the ,i think, 45hp and 10Sta. difference at the beginning.

Both can use all weapons and armor and the 2W-Talents.

Other difference is the Specializations: Duelist and Assassin + backstabs gives you more throatslicer-damage, against the Berserker/Reaver "I A M SAREVOK!!!" - damage dish out.

Ah sry forgot: There is one "halfpassive" difference: Chars get some free arrtibute points sometimes on lvl up, which are given on the major stats of your class. Warrior will get some more STR points in the game and Rogues some more DEX points.

.. So if you use one handed weapons( daggers i.e.) with Rogue you will still get a damage bonus for this category.
