Mine + cloak shot doesn't do much more damage vs health/armor than energy drain + cloak shot does, but the debuff is pretty awesome

On shilded target perhaps, on armored - no comparison.

The only problem with proximity mine is that it's not a tracking power, instead just firing in a straight line. I've occasionally had my target maneuver out of the way before the mine gets there.

It's very useful on bronze and maybe on silver, but only if you're cloaked while firing. On gold, it's completely useless. On the bright side though, it makes it super easy to spec out your character. Just put all your points into everything else.

My Turian Soldier uses the hell out of Prox Mine at close range. Specced for damage, it's like having a free shotgun blast every 3 seconds that does nice AoE damage.

Two words...

GETH HUNTER.

Great for putting down to cover your ass so the Hunter doesn't sneak up on you.

A skill that deals 700~1k AoE damage, causes all damage on the target to increase by 20%, and can be laid as a trap or fired directly at an enemy...is useless? It's one of the best damn skills in the game. I honestly can't believe what I'm reading.

It's less useful for sniper infiltrators ( to the point that you may as well not take it), But for shotgun infiltrators that 20% damage debuff is very very useful. Cloak > mine > Clamore/GPS to the face just never gets old for me.

Umm, yes...

You shoot an atlas with it on gold. Then it dies to concentrated fire. Congratulations, you just did ~10k (2 from the explosion, other 8 from the debuff) damage to it with one power.

It's one of the best powers in the game, it's you who can't use it.

I used to think Proximity Mines were useless, then I.....started using them and realized just how good they can actually be.

Couple of tips:
-As others have mentioned, use it on elite armored targets (Atlas, Prime, Banshee), so the whole can take it down faster. Great de-buff ability.
-Always fire one before a new wave starts. If you have a Salarian Engineer on your team, set it up near to where he sets up his Decoy. It costs you nothing (cooldown will reset, before the first enemy shows up), and someone will inevitably run into it.
-Use it as a tripwire alarm system, if you are afraid of being flanked. Just set it up on your flank, and if an enemy shows up there, you will hear the sound and get notified of the breach.
-When a group is about to swarm you, fire one at their feet. It will effectively stagger them, giving you time to run away.
-It can detonate Tech Combos (all three of them).

Proximity Mines becomes your main weapon when you play with 200% Recharge Speed. I shoot them at every enemy. They are up every 3 seconds or so.

The 20% team damage increase makes everyone better.

Actually, spamming Proximity Mines is so good that i fear they will nerf them anytime soon. So please keep saying that they suck :0

I think I'll just link to this thread whenever proxy mine is brought up, since it helped me a lot with my SI and turian soldier.

They're fun to use, but the detection range is just pathetic. It would be nice if the range was the same as the explosion radius, but right now it seems more like 0.5 meters. The Geth mines in single player seems to do better than that.

If they made them not shoot to the left side they would be epic, but it is hard to hit moving targets when you have to aim waaaaay to the right of them. -.-

I always thought the detection range was the same as the explosion radius, but the only time I ever saw it up close was when I was about to grab a geth hunter that was sneaking up on my cover. I'd misfired a mine about 10 seconds earlier and it was stuck on the thing I was taking cover behind. I was sitting there, biding my time, waiting for this hunter to get closer, and then before I even see the grab icon the mine blows up, staggers the geth, and apparently persuaded it that I wasn't worth the effort, because it cloaked, turned around trotted away.

Don't ADS when firing them - fire them "from the hip". They go to the centre of the screen if you do.

I use Proximity Mine to fantastic effect on a Salarian Infiltrator.  It kills Atlasses faster and deals great collateral damage, and I can use it to set off tech bursts to instakill Gold Phantoms solo (Energy Drain them right before they step on the Proximity Mine, laugh).

I can say with confidence that anyone saying it's useless is Doing It Wrong.

How to Do It Right:
-Use Proximity Mines against elite enemies to make the whole team focus fire them down faster, not to mention their decent damage on their own (including collateral damage against enemies within 3 meters of the elite enemy).
-Use it like a tripwire alarm system.  It will both alert you to enemy presence AND make the enemy weak and easier to kill.
-It's free if there aren't any targets currently in your sight.  Cloak, fire the mine instantly, your cloak will be ready again by the time you find an enemy.
-It triggers tech, fire, and cryo bursts.  Which just got buffed.  Cool!
-It kills phantoms like a charm.

I've tried using them, and I don't know if it was lag or anything else, but I've never seen any I used actually explode. What's the range the enemies must be in for the damn things to do their thing?

I haven't used it on my characters, but I've seen a lot of people say it can be effective, so it probably isn't useless

Turian Soldier, yes. Salarian Infiltrator, no. I can down an atlas, prime or brute within seconds solo without Proxy. All Proxy does is get in the way. Banshees are the only trouble alphas and that's only because of their teleporting.

Proxy is largely unnecessary with a DPS cloak SI.

Unnecessary?  Well sure, but so is Fitness and Alliance Training.  But it's NICE.

on Gold, Ravagers (my personal most hated enemy) goes down with 2 cloak+prox.mine+sniper shots. Brutes go down far easier with them, Banshees takes more skills to aim properly if going for body prox.mine shot when they are not slow walking.

if you're not speccing out Prox.Mines to Rank 6 and thus putting points into Fitness Rank 6 then that would be more useless as Gold can usually strip your shields+health in *seconds*, even with Fitness Rank 6 when you lack Situational Awareness...

In short: LOLUBAD.

Proximity Mine is great. You don't need to level Fitness at all with the Salarian Infiltrator. The increased damage from all sources evolution on Proximity Mine goes very well with your 90 % damage boost from Cloak. Tougher enemies go down very fast if you're able to hit them with the mine.
