As far as damage goes its pretty dam powerful, iv taken out 4 geth at once with it, however since it doesn't follow anyone, and its detonator radius is pretty dam small i prefer using other damage ability's like carnage or incinerate.

I'm on xbox 360, but as everyone has pointed out already you shot the mine while in cloak, then follow it with 1-2 shots from your sniper rifle.  It's pretty basic.  If they have shileds up you use energy drain instead.  Useful against big "boss" type enemies (ravegers, brutes, prime and atlas) who move rather slow and are big targets.

Basically like this: Cloak-> aim down sights-> energy drain->quick shot or two (depending on your weapon)
Do that until all shield are gone.  Then Cloak-> aim down sights-> proxmine-> quick 1-2 shots till dead.  Simple.

Couple things that bother me about what was said:
1) Can you really take a cloaked shot to take advantage of the debuff before you uncloak? I've seen it shot, and while faster than Carnage, it still seems to be slower than a Concussive Shot. I would find it hard to believe it can be done unless the target is close.

2) The detection range is SMALL. As in, enemies would have to step almost right on top of it to set it off. I find it hard to believe shooting one at cover would be enough to have it blow up. I always attempt to shoot it on the ground next to the enemy in cover instead of the cover itself.

What's wrong with sticky grenades? I find them easier to aim. You can throw them on an Atlas or turret or what have you without worrying it will bounce off and away in some far-off corner, like Warp 'nades always seem to.

Proximity Mines that are upgraded in the right fashion are great against every big boss, except Banshees because of their teleport ability. 20% damage increase from all sources for 8 seconds is great for Atlases and Geth Primes...especially since you can use Energy Drain and/or Overload to remove their shields first and deal all that extra team damage right to their armor.

Add in the fact you can use the sniper scope to "fire" the proximity mine power onto the target and follow it up with a shot from the rifle after the impact of the mine.

just fyi, the 20% damage boost will also be benefiting you. Thus increasing your score. And everyone elses. And decreasing total time it takes the team to down big targets. This is a team game, ya know? Individual score is not the be all end all measurement of a builds effectiveness.

AND if I detonate any tech bursts with my proxy mine, off his energy drain.
he gets credit for the tech burst kills.

But if he can't aim a proxy mine, I'm willing to wager he's not a great shot either :P

No, those are the primary skillsets of said characters, i'm just voicing my opinion about Prox. mine. So, um, how is that trolling?

the op has got to be a troll.

In any case. SI's dont need points in fitness. Just spec it for damage and the 20% damage debuff. It does like 2k damage with cloak and puts a 20% debuff on the target. Its also causes tech bursts. So if you have someone spamming overload on a group of enemies just throw a mine and watch them all die.

Prox Mine is badass against Primes and Packs of mobs tightly Grouped together if you can aim it.  Its also better than other grenades and you dont have to refill them at an ammo box.  Its perfect for situational things like Primes.

My original beef with the prox mine was that when I peeked out of cover to fire it, I'd see it fly across the map and hit the floor, ...... only to notice it stuck to the inside of the box I was hiding behind, leading to a big ol WTF moment.

Haven't used it recently so perhaps that issue is gone.

Respectable damage by stacking with Tactical Cloak

All targets hit by it will take 20% more damage for 10 seconds (which obviously includes that oh-so-inevitable Sniper rifle sound coming immediately right after it)

Oh well, I didn't see that. All I know is that aiming directly at a target even if it's standing still, will result in a complete miss. But aiming slighty to the right, results in a hit. If anything that should be fixed

Never noataced that issue , though I tend to use it against groupings rather then individuals

Yeah it doesnt come out of the center since its your off hand throwing it.    It is annoying tho when it hits a wall you're hiding behind if you arent careful.
