Mass Effect 3 has garnered a lot of media attention recently, some of it good, and some bad. I've had some spare time today so I decided I felt like voicing my opinion into the dark abyss that is the Internet.
The Mass Effect series has always been one of my personal favourites in any form of media, the world is full with rich and extensive knowledge . I've sometimes felt lost just after reading the codex for a while. There is so much to read about and find out about in the Mass Effect series, like the origination of species and the history of wars, alliances, treaties and bad blood between races.
I've always felt that the story a lot of the times decides to take a back seat to the characters and their emotional struggles as they come to agree to the fact that their worlds and lives are as frail as the world they live in. Seeing as a majority of characters view the events that they are involved in could potentionally be their last, a lot of them will tie up all their loose ends, so if they do die, they don't leave behind any harpering and unresolved troubles after their deaths. This allows for some excellent back stories and some very interesting tales. I extremely enjoyed the loyalty missions in ME2 and really liked all the 'quieter' moments with the squad mates across the series. Some of the best moments trilogy trilogy weren't centered around combat.
One of my favorite moments in Mass Effect 3 was the mission where you venture into the Geth consensus and have a look at what it is like to be a gets and it allows for some truly excellent back story and some very intriguing points of view into the war for the Rannoch home world. It showed us that the Geth weren't really the ruthless killing machines everyone thought they were. They only fought in self defense after being forced to be wiped out, and that they let the Quarians go after they retreated, instead of destroying an entire species. I always liked the Geth and felt like that mission really told a story that prior to ME3, only had one point of view. I would've honestly like Legion to live, because I found him one of the most intriguing characters in the ME series. He provided some extremely fascinating dialogue and provoked some thoughts inside my head that I really wouldn't of thought of if not for a Geth squad mate. I liked seeing what it was like to view the events taking place inside of Mass Effect from a different perspective and I felt that nearly every character in the ME series provided that (Diana Allers not included, she had the personality of a brick and provided less emotion that Kristen Stewart in any of the Twilight films).
I hope you enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it. I may even continue writing articles like this if you like them.
