Followed the link in your signature to this thread, OP. I support it 100%.

Personally, while I know Bioware views romances as a bonus rather than an integral part of the game, I have always wanted them to treat them a bit more seriously. I don't have any low-budget options to provide on-topic, just my personal take on them.

If I were in charge of their implementation, of course there would be small tweaks like the ones you suggested. Any little thing that adds to the immersion and makes the relationship seem real is a good thing in my view. But if it were up to me, your LI would have a new conversation after EVERY major mission. I'm not suggesting that Bioware add a new conversation for everyone after every mission, but if the game saw a Priority mission complete, it could cue up the next special scene with your chosen LI.

The scenes in question wouldn't need to be overtly romantic, just some sort of private conversation to make it clear that the relationship is a personal one. Like after the Genophage Cure mission (don't want to include major spoilers so I'll leave it at that), having Liara pull Shep aside to ask him/her if she can do anything... comment with her feelings about Mordin and the situation, etc.

It's just always been my personal wish to see implemented. More conversations with the LI specifically that wouldn't be experienced if you hadn't romanced said character. That way the conversations can be more intimate and don't have to be quite so generalized.

I never understood why Bioware didn't follow the DAO model of romances, where once you're in a romance the Warden can replay the kiss animation (or even the sex cutscreen if you hack the game!) with their LI(s) in camp whenever the player wanted, for Mass Effect. The ME universe is just too damned chaste in comparison. Romancing Liara in ME3 just feels so off as it currently stands if Shepard has already romanced her in ME1 and/or ME2/LotSB (and the ME2 romancers get the sharp end of the pointy stick as well if they picked Jack or Miranda to romance), so it would be great if these issues could be addressed (though I'm not exactly holding my breath for BioWare to accommodate fans' wishes; after all we only pay their wages by buying their games, it's not like they owe us anything).

^ Yep, it’s just weird. They would probably have polished a few things (like the Liara friendzone) if they had more time, but it’d still be quite static.

This is awesome!!!! I hope bioware has been following this thread, it would be so cool to have these additions. I think the poker table is a must! why put it there and never use it!?! But they really need to give the most attention to jack and thane. Honnestly jacob was a total tool in ME2. Although liara was my LI i thought jack's romance in ME2 was the best in the game. I was sad to see how little their was for jack fans. If bioware does implement this they could do little dates on the citadel like in GTA IV such as an arcade, a car to drive, and a blasto movie!!! Hell have shep and vega go to the gym to tet yoked haha!! Just my two cents.
I support this thread 100%:)

It's probably too late for any new ideas to be added to the Extended Cut, but I sure hope Bioware took notice of some of your original ideas, OP. Small additions for Shepard's Love Interest would make a world of difference for the disheartened masses of fans. I especially like having your LI in your cabin, after nightmares, and the ability to invite them up like in ME2. I was genuinely shocked in ME3 when I never had the chance to call Tali up.

In fact, the kid in the nightmare sequences could be replaced with your LI. That'd be much more impactful.

This this this a million times this!

There are so many fammiliar faces by this time in the game, and you're haunted by the ghost of a stranger that you've only seen once? Kid or no, that's kind of stupid.

For specific, I thought Jack's was too "physical focused" if you get what I'm saying. I didn't see any of that emotion that was building up from the end of ME2, yeah, I could headcannon it, or image something, but it would of been nice to think that her romance arc was more than just physical for the both of them. Even if you take the Renegade sex scene with her, it hardly plays different from doing the Paragon one in ME3.

Yep…of course, a lot of people quite like the current arc, so perhaps more variation via P/R choices. I think even Jack, despite the romance being atypical for ME, would definitely benefit from the various small improvements.

Attention Romance DLC fans!

As a result of the popularity of the Romance DLC thread and polls on BSN and HTL, folks over at HTL have combined all the suggestions and made a new, more in depth survey.

It will only take 5 minutes of your time, unless you like to make comments, and we hope to get even more responses than on the BSN polls.

Results will be analyzed, summarized into a report, and sent to Bioware.

If you want to be heard on this issue, this is the best way to do it!

Please take the survey !

I found a lot of interesting ideas, comments here... that SHOULD have been in game... too bad, because I really find it difficult that they will release a DLC involving romance improvements *crossing fingers* let's not lose hope!

Mayhaps the HTL effort will go somewhere! Still, I think it’s likelier to just get DLC focusing on a couple characters.

We're supporting any format Bioware wants to release it as.  The idea sort of got started as we were talking about changes to specific characters, and then we thought, "well, we don't see BW releasing romance-related DLC for just one character...but, maybe a romance DLC for all characters would work".

Lots of folks are generating various ideas about how the DLC should be formatted, but if BW does release something like this, they will be looking to maximize profits, so they might even choose a route that none of us have thought of thus far.

Once you've locked in with whoever you've chosen there should have been more unqiue dialogue and encounters, I don't mean the actual 'bedding down', just more opportunities to interact with them differently. It feels jarring to have had the big deal conversation to get into a relationship and then the next few times I've gone to hang out with them they just give standard lines and no mention of this newly formed 'exciting' relationship.

A few simple 'hey how are you', 'I've missed you', 'I was worried about you on that last mission', 'you look hot' kind of things instead of 'hello commander, I'm busy', 'hello commander that Geth ship was big' neutral comments.

If you're going to make a big deal and have relationships, then it should alter the way that character interacts with you.

Didn't see this thread, I reached similar thoughts, now my thread can be deleted, or merged?

Yeah, I wish your LI would move to the Captain's cabin the way your LI in DA2 can move in with you.

i want most of the ideas mentioned in this thread and i think ME games would really benefit if LIs were expanded in subsequent dlc packs more often. integrating content that doesnt need [extra] VO can help cut costs and new animations can always be used in other conversations and situations

on the topic of levity, LotSB is the perfect example of a romance being expanded [as an option] during a main story quest and not take away from the main quest at all. adding a worried glance, an affirmative nod or hug can also add a personal tone to a tough situation: nobodys gonna start asking to stop and make out all the time

while i think its difficult to make additions without a fundamental change in how ME games are written produced and supported going forward, i do believe these suggestions are technically feasible if not financially viable. i dont see this as paid dlc and i dont see how more free solo dlc wud fit into the gameplan

that said i still want a hug

it wud be nice to get back after a mission and see a LI hanging out in the captians cabin, maybe stretched out on the bed covered in rose petals. TMI?

When I spend more time helping Joker and Edi get together (or it feels like I do because there are several times it happens) than I do with my own LI, there's a problem. Garrus is a mess to bother with because he's so busy being strange about it and asking Joker of all people for help. Gah! Kaidan amounts to needing immense coddling post mars incident and then after those three visits there still him asking about Illusive Man after the scientists get saved, which IS NOT a LI thing so much as a general conversation that only relatively relates to him being a LI, though this may happen if he's not, in which case it wouldn't really count.

As a femshep, I kind of felt like the female options had more development or involvement and that was without even trying. Conversation wise, Kaidan is the absolute worst. The conversations with him are minimal but the ending stuff is the best. Garrus has good conversation stuff but it's related to war mostly and him trying to suss out how to have an interspecies relationship from ever clueless Joker. Kill me now. Seriously. Javik might be more help!

For people who played from ME1 and had a romance from ME1, I think it should have had a lot more options. You don't have to follow through with them all if you don't want, but heck, if I have to change my DVD as often as I do during gameplay, then they could have at least done me the courtesy of making it worth my while for any LI that I continued - more conversations, even another more intimate scene without sex or anything but something beyond what I got. You know, indicitive of the real world kind of intensity that would be present where a couple that had been together previously and considered a good romance/relationship having been apart for two years then reunited during end of the galaxy war stuff - well, it should have been done better. Barely worth it to even bother. Truly.

Vent over.
