Wow, what an utter failure. My ME2 head morph did import however it is the same face I got back before the patch which barley looks like the Shepard I had for years. Only difference this time is I have a different hair style. This is months of coding?

I thought the patch was coming out on the 10th. It is still the 9th.

10th is consoles.

9th is PC.

Posted on the thread in the PC Technical Support forum as well, but just tried importing from ME2 and my ME1 Shep is still not right. I never got the error message before, still not getting it, but the same result. Guess I'm sticking with manually editing them.

*do whatever loading/menu/db setup is required*
*set up for existing character code manipulation to create the face*
char currentME3FaceCode[256];
FILE* f = fopen("oldsave.pcsav", "r");
if ( f == NULL ) {
fprintf(stderr, "We don't test products before release, sorry\\n");
strcpy(currentME3FaceCode, "00:00:00:00...");
}
else {
char oldFaceCode[256];
fscanf(f, "%s", oldFaceCode);
fclose(f);
strcpy(currentME3FaceCode, oldFaceCode);
}

apply currentME3FaceCode the same way you would if it had been created using the sliders.

The patch comes out on the PC on the 9th the console patch comes out on the 10th.;  The reason the PC version is out first is probably down to the fact EA doesn't need Microsoft or Sony to check every single little insy winsy thing.

Three Sheps out of my five ME2-finishers I have compared to different methods of import.

#1, a Bolo Yeung lookalike. YAML made him a bit pudgier, but that fit in well with the idea that he spent six months in comfortable non-wartime conditions. Eye colour restored, haircut changed to reflect passage of time, hair colour restored and he was good to go. Post-patch ME3 imports him as he was in ME2, but also changes hair colour to black from brown and eye colour to brown from green.

#2, Olivia Wilde lookalike. YAML made her look like she was poorly molded out of plasticine (with the same haircut/eye/makeup reset), so I took to the knife and started cutting. Totally different face as a result, more reminiscent of Kyra from Chronicles of Riddick. Not a bad tradeoff, but not the best. My hope was for the patch. Lo and behold... nothing changed. Still looks like she was stung in the face by a score of bees, but at least her hair colour and eye colour... were reset to a different wrong value than via YAML. Niiice job breaking it, guys.

#3. Control test. Doom Guy lookalike. He was made IN ME2 to test out the no-import playthrough. I still had his facecode lying around, so I compared what he looks like if imported (sorta the same, except for the wrong hair colour and eye colour AGAIN) and if code copy-pasted (perfectly identical to ME2).

Then I got curious, I still had two Sheps I did not YAML. It was interesting to try and see what the patch did to THEM.

#4, a FemShep, got her face twisted out of proportions, coming off looking like a reprobate fresh off the extras scene in Mad Max, part of the gibbering mutant horde of degenerates. No offense to gibbering degenerates intended, of course.

#5, a DudeShep looking sorta like Adrien Brody on a bad hair day. Came out looking like he was subjected to the HeadCrusher ™ Head Vise ®, pat. pend. - the face was largely intact, but squeezed from the sides.

Final count? YAML went 1:1 on good/bad (I will try to do it to the other two ME1-starts), patch went 2:3 on good-bad, and both goods were guys. This is real BAD, people. REAL BAD.

Will post pics once I get ME3 to stop crashing while using ANY screen capture software.

I was able to recreate my FemShep by hand though, it was pretty close

One thing the patch did solve (at least for me) was that importing my Sheploo does yield back Sheploo. Before, even with the default face from ME1 --> ME2 --> ME3 I would get a completely different face.

My FemShep's face imported with slightly different brow color (black instead of dark brown) and...well...no purple eyes. I don't understand how they could've forgotten.

Still no purple eyes after patch?!!! :crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:

Truth is you still can not import faces from 1-3 unless your very lucky. Seems the player fixes (YAML) are what they just implemented officially into the game. So they didn't do anything more then some players tried to do. This is why its failing.

The update doesn't work for me either. Are you guys sure that this was the proper patch?

Your facial structure looks very similar in ME3. Why not just pick a hair like the other 2 and continue onwards with the game?

I personally feel that FemShep got shafted. Most ME2 FemSheps look pretty realistic and normal (what I was aiming for anyways) and with the ME3 layout she just looks like a cartoon. BTW, I had to mod out her eyes to purple using Gibbed's because the patch didn't give. I see the resemblance but I still don't think it's completely my Shep...who decided to change her hair anyways? Do the male Sheps have same hairstyles throughout the triology?

I am pretty disappointed. The fact that they couldn't carry over purple eyes is such a downer...it makes me almost embarrassed for them. This isn't helping me hope that the extended cut would be any better.

Glad I wasn't the only one to feel they all were the same except for the hair :P

I agree, only the hair seems to be different. You seem to be one of the lucky ones.

I hate to point this out but the patch was to correct the face code import error. it was not to add missing facial features between ME2 and ME3.

I think perhaps the community got a little ahead of themselves in what this patch was going to accomplish.

It was to fix "issues when in some cases Shepard's customized facial features from ME1/ME2 may not be properly imported to ME3". It says nothing about face codes, and it implies my features would be correctly imported.
And if they meant what you said, they even managed to deceive major gaming sites: http://www.gamespot....-3-bugs-6370586

From the Primary thread . . . "We have determined that faces importing incorrectly is an error with how
codes were detected when transferred from Mass Effect 1 into Mass
Effect 2 and then on into Mass Effect 3 or importing a Mass Effect 2
saved game with New Game +. The Mass Effect team continues to
investigate fixes for these issues and they are top priority concerns
for
everyone here
"

So my take on this is  . . . " we fixed the programing error ".   I'm certain after my own imports + what people are posting that some ME2 facial features are still missing in ME3

Edit:  Primary thread being this one . . .http://social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/323/index/9661093/1

Huh, my Shepard from ME1 actually loaded... but now his eyes look like he was clam baking the cockpit with Joker.

Puff puff, pass.

Joker: "Hey Commander, I've got some visine in the glove box."

So the patch for the PC is already out? How can you check whether you have it installed or not?

you can update me3 by right clicking on pc or you can see by going into your config for me3 and check for version 1.02.
