That's right... narrow it down to just three. Tough, huh?

My choices (not necessarily in order)

1. Tali'Zorah vas Normandy. Oh, you adorable Quarian nerd, you. I'll admit you didn't make much of an impression on me in the first game, besides your 'unique' voice. But then you returned in the second game, all kooky and ditzy and throwing out killer combat drones left, right and centre. I had to wait to get you back in the third act, but it was worth it just to get you your future house. And DRUNK Tali! So awesome! I never romanced you; how could I? You were the constant friend, the loyal pal, my Shep couldn't do without.

2. Jeff 'Joker' Moreau. To me, you ARE the Normandy. My Shep wouldn't take that kind of cr*p from anybody else, but your wisecracks were as much an integral part of you as your mad piloting skillz. Your Vrolik's Syndrome informed who you are, but never held you back; nobody else could save the Normandy in Shep's absence. It was an honour, Jeff, both to serve with you and to hook you up with your sexbot girlfriend.

3. Liara T'Soni. Ahhh, my Shep's lady love. I remember when I first rescued you from that forcefield back on Therum. How endearingly awkward and shy you were, how halting our courtship. We lost each other when Shep 'died', but you wouldn't let go. Instead you came back as a biotic bad*ss, making your transition into the new Shadow Broker all too fitting. Through all the trials and tribulations, you never lost your spirit of enquiry, either, even in the face of annihilation.

garrus- easily the best friendship arc in a game ive seen

mordin- might be a bit cliche of a redemption story, but it was well done and...he sings. how cool was that?

Mordin by a landslide. Everything he did was great, his moral dilemma over the genophage, to his eventual sarcifice to cure it. Everything was perfect for this character. I was sad when he died but happy he redeemed himself, even shed a (manly) tear for him when he was singing and the tower was blowing up around him.

These three characters will always be my favorite. But I do love a lot more chars then just these three. I never liked characters in a video game so much... Mass Effect ( shepards story ) will always be one of the best trilogies ever.. endings aside.
