In no particular order:
1. Garrus (duh)
2. Liara
3. sodfhoasihgo so tough to choose!

Miranda is probably in the top 3 for me since she was my LI. But then there's Mordin and the incredible genophage storyline. And then there's Tali, who really grew on me as the games wore on. Javik was a HUGE favorite of mine in the third game, loved that guy and I loved the Protheans.

I'll just leave the third option as: rest of the crew.

EDI - She might have started off as part of the enemy, I actually thought there'd be a twist involving her, she falls for the most lovable man in the galaxy.

Garrus - If he isn't on your list you are racist.

agreed. Though the krogans have always been my bro's. I'm not sure where to place Grunt or Wrex; maybe above tali? It's just like you said,Tali just wasn't really a friend in my opinion during ME1. I had more of a connection with Wrex, and even though he wasn't in 2, I got what what I needed to continue my Krogan relationship thanks to Grunt.

Hard to narrow this down to just 3, so I'll probably cheat and have a "just missed" category (and then try to refrain from listing every other character).  I waffled a bit about whether or not I should count best as "my favorite" or "best written".  Since that is up to the eye of the beholder, I'll go with favorite. 

If I went with best, I think most of the ME1 cast would lose because I feel like the writing (or maybe it's just the quality of the interaction with squadmates) really picks up in 2.

So... favorites!

Tali - I always seemed to like the naive/innocent/polite types, so she hooked me in ME1.  I like the way things progress from 1 to 2 to 3. 

Thane - I absolutely love the character, though I seldom took him on missions in ME2.  He really grew on me in subsequent playthroughs of the game.  The whole assassin that really has a heart of gold thing might be overplayed a bit, but what the hey, I still liked it. 

Mordin - Continuing the theme of characters I loved but barely took with me on any missions in ME2.  Few characters made me grin as consistently as Mordin did. 

Just missed:
Garrus - I love what Garrus became in 2 and 3, but he felt really flat to me in ME1.  I guess the same argument could be leveled at Tali, but I liked the sheer Lawful Goodness of her in the first one. 

Legion - I didn't get enough time with Legion to really like him, but I liked what was there a lot.

On the other hand, if this were a list of best characters in ME3, Garrus might be #1.

The fact Tali'Zorah Vas Normandy can get across all her emotions without you ever even seeing a single glimpse of her face should be considered art.

3) Mordin - A role model to any aspiring scientist.

1. Tali'Zorah vas Normandy. She is a nerd and wants to help her people whats not to love and she kinda follows in your footsteps when she becomes admiral.

Jeff 'Joker' Moreau. Loved him since mass effect cracking jokes at the wrong time. Espically when he rescuse your butt from the volcano planet.

Garrus but only because he was with me for all 3 games unlike wrex. Wrex I like to shep but I have my planet to run. Garrus: lets go kick some reaper but YEAHAW

I actually didn't have much of a connection with Wrex in the first game either haha.  Both he and Tali were much more interesting in the sequels.

Vigil.



Small character, but extremely important. The scene with Vigil was the most memorable for me in the entire series. So much mystery, amazing soundtrack and art design in the area too. Reminded me very much of KOTOR and the Star Forge ruins.
