Balak. If you didn't kill him, I'd like to be able to recruit him. Especially if he brings some Batarian brandy and some smokes aboard. Otherwise, Salkie would be a good choice. Same reason. Of course they'd have to add some dialog options for Javik to make comments about them as perhaps a lab experiment that escaped.

This. Would've been some mighty interesting tension between Balak and Shepard in general. Would've been nice for the two of them to build some general respect for one another as allies or have it devolve to the point where you need to kill him near the end.

You know, Zaeed could have easily been a Batarian while only tweaking around with his backstory. And if they kept that awesome accent, that'd make for one badass Batarian.

I would rather not see balak as a squadmate, for one thing he can die in mass effect 1, and for another he's really weak if you think about it.

Now a member of the special interventions unit leading a rebellion against the indoctrinated hegemony on camala, that I'd like to see. He can have some sort of backstory tied to some shepard's, like he was involved in the skillian blitz or he managed to get away from torfan, or maybe both.

Balak would be a nice squadmate but he doesnt survive in everyones. What was his second in commands name? Though I guess he doesnt survive in all cases either does he?

There would be a lot of potential here for some great dramatic tension. There are several backstories that would work.

1. Originally native to the Bahak System that Shepard destroyed.
2. Took part in the slaver attack on Mindoir where Colonist Shepard lost their family.
3. Took part in the Skyllian Blitz which failed due to the actions of War Hero Shepard
4. Part of the defence where Ruthless Shepard carved out their reputation as "The Butcher of Torfan"

I'd totally support Robin Sachs voicing a Batarian Squadmember in a DLC.

A batarian squadmate could have some interesting anti-human/anti-batarian chatter with Ashley and Kaidan too.

That would be one hell of a resume on the squad mate too. Very nice.

I was thinking we'd get a Batarian squadmate when I first speculated about ME3. I would love to see that happen, because they're depicted so negatively all the time in the ME universe (well, there is that whole "caste system/slavery" thing, but it could be worked around). I first thought about it when Garrus mentioned he had a Batarian tech expert on his vigilante team. But it's kinda cool that you can play as one in multiplayer (soon).

Garrus' comment is what gave me the original idea back in ME2 as well. Was thinking it'd be neat.

They also seemed to go out of their way to make the Batarians more sympthetic in ME3, with the preacher, the human and batarian refugees, EDI's comments on how much nicer they are without the eyes of the Hegemony on them, etc...

Exactly! I'd like to see more about the lore of the Hegemony and the Batarian people. Perhaps a Batarian Squadmate can show us the commoners side of their culture. I think its EDI who comments that if the Batarians survive its the commoners that will rebuild and that they're not of the same mind as the nobles.

Seems this is a common thought for Batarians.

Heck no. The Batarians have long been a thorn in the side of the Alliance, and have been sponsoring terrorist attacks against us.
I happily set their relay to explode, and would gladly put a bullet in every Batarian I meet.
My Shep doesn't negotiate with terrorists, or get chummy with enemy combatants.

I wish more folk would give their opinions on this side as well.

Still though wouldn't you like to have some words with one just to know more of their lore in general? Various times throughout the series its been said that the Hegemony itself has been throwing dissenters out and that not all Batarians share the same ideals.

Failing that, shouldnt you know your enemy better? :P

I always hated them so no. Had I bought the dlc I'd have had no problems super nuking their system. Renegade for life.

I was so close to just killing that guy who stuck a gun in my back on the citadel. But then I saw he had fleets to command so I let him live.

An excellent choice I think given ones hatred for the Batarians. Might as well make use of them if nothing else.

I always saw it as the Hegemony being the main enemy to humanity as far as the Batarians were concerned. Yeah they got a race wide dislike of humans due to propaganda from the Hegemony about the colony rights, but other than that I got the impression that most Batarians werent so far off from humans... if a bit ridiculously arrogant.
