Yeah, I doubt that wish will ever come true. And I sure hope it doesn't, since I'd really hate to have a party of entirely inter-changeable NPCs. I like having a party of special snowflakes.

In a way, I agree. In others, I disagree. Suppose a few really "unique" characters wouldn't ruin anything, but there is a limit. I've tried Planescape Torment several times and one of the things that keeps me turned off is how the most normal character in the game is a half-devil *shudders*. I know saying bad things about PST is taboo, and I know the game indeed is faithful to its setting, but I won't enjoy orange-flavoured chocolate no matter how well you make it since I don't like orange-flavoured chocolate.Lotion Soronnar wrote...

"Ohh a new race. We MUST have a companion from that race!"
Uniqueness is overrated. I'm getting tired of my party looking like a walking circus or a walking commercial for the United Colors of Benetton.
Not that DA or ME have ever been close to PST levels in this manner, mind you =)
EDIT: And don't get me started on Player's Handbook 2&3 races for D&D4E (gnomes notwithstanding). Eck!

Well, some people do want to have a party of entirely interchangeable characters, and this seems like something that a developer can easily fulfill. They can have some sort of recruiting center where the PC can go and hire a group of one-dimensional characters (probably some recolored versions of low level enemies that you would encounter in the game), and then go off and play the game from there. Everyone else can go off and recruit all the living rocksturds. No rare/speshul races/creatures. The possesed, the runaway experiments, and the marked or otehrwise [sic] unique flowers.

Why not just play Dragon's Dogma and be done with it?

"The tavern is full of activity. Sitting on the benches spread throughout the room you find mostly humans, speaking loudly as they throw their stouts about. One of the tables by the fireplace has eyes trained on the half-elf who's spinning his tales of grandoir. A loud burp followed by the sound of a stout forcefully impacting on wood can be heard as a dwarf chuckles off to the side of the room. Around the table behind him you see a sentient shape of crystal, a githzerai from another dimension, a purple-skinned descendant of the gods and two burly minotaurs arguing over a game of cards. Just your typical friendly neighbourhood smalltown tavern."thats1evildude wrote...

Also, can you name a successful RPG with a team of normal companions? And the most successfull RPGs enjoyed the most bizzarre share of unique party members.
A mage that is possessed by a spirit (that changes and becames corrupted) isn't exactly normal. And a elf who could pass though a human's body and take his heart isn't normal either.
I don't care much about the topic, but if they're going to put a demon, I hope it'll not be similar to Ander, with his two personalities (which is more explicit in the rivarly path).

Somewhat agree on. In very broad strokes, we agree.
A Desire Demon companion would be something I'd get behind.
A Desire Demon companion huh? Like this:

No dialogue unfortunately, but she's a mage (i picked her talents) and i can give her equipment. Oh and the Skeleton Archer is a rogue.

I found the DA2 cast to be distinctive individuals. They were hardly faceless templates who approved of everything you did, anyway.
If we were to get a demon companion then it should take the form of a mage. I know Cole was mentioned in the leak and he is most likely a demon being a spirit capable of advanced blood magic.

No that would be silly. She should be in her posessed, or other acceptable form to avoid situations like fighting in the main Orlais plaza with Demon by your side and then speaking normally with other characters.Merlex wrote...

I would prefer her to change to her true form in exceptional situation, like at your base or when involved with some unique quest situations, like when you ask Anders to check maniac for demon possession.

I agree. But unfortunately this is the only mod on Nexus that adds a Desire Demon companion, that i can pick talents and equip. Though there is a mod that replaces the dog, with a Desire Demon summon.
She's more for the endgame, when Damien Hawk fully embraces his blood magic, to fight the templars.

Yea, I know, only cosmetic mod, sadly. Would be nice if Desire Demon could amplify or otherwise boost player's Blood Magic in some way. Most common is HP-to-MP conversion ratio.Merlex wrote...

But common fights with Desire Demon in her true form is absolutely unreal in DA world.

and not even real sex - just mind sex!
Your entire experience of life is in your mind, in your brain. Everything physical you experience is merely a series of signals sent to your brain. "Mind sex" would just remove the "middle man" that is your central nervous system and send those sensations directly to the brain.
On topic: I absolutely support Desire Demon as a companion. Regardless of her Love Interest status. Of course it is prefered that contrivances be kept to a minimum... however I do not find the idea of a DD companion, or even a DD LI as a contrivance. Basically, just write the ****ing story well, and without any plot holes.

Well then I hope the cast of DA3 consists entirely of human male warriors.
No, uniqueness isn't overrated. The "circus" companion roster may not be the most realistic, but it is the most interesting and fun. It gives us a greater outlook on more diverse backrounds and cultures within the DA world. Getting a Qunari companion or an abomination offers a perspective you can't get anywhere else in the setting, for example.
You call that interesting, I call that flashy garbage.
Huamns have plenty of perspectives and oppinion between themselves. It's like the writers/creators don't really know how to make different/interesting characters wihout giving them some amazing/unique power or trait.
And no, a demon isn't "normal". Neither is a golem.
And I find it funny...or ironic..that a few of the posters here keep clamining that being a "normal" human or elf is "one-dimensional".

How about Baldurs Gate?

Avernum?
Drakensang?
I'm tired of the unique and super-special rare characters.

Really?
Jaheira and Khalid - fighter and druid, pretty normal half-elves
Minsc - normal human ranger...slightly crazy
Nalia - normal human, ex noble
Anomen - normal human fighter/cleric
Keldorn - normal human, paladin
Xan - depressing elf
Mazzy - halfling figher
Jan Jansen - demented gnome inventor
Etc...
Pretty normal races, normal classes, with normal powers.
if there was anything colorfull about them it was their personalities - they didn't have any other gimmicks (like being a magical experiment or somesuch)
