I caught the live blog from Kotaku about the Bioware Pax panel and I was not impressed to their answer when they brough up Tali's face. Specifically:

"2.) We often use source material, source art,
for MANY things withing the game -- wanted it to be photorealistic, high
fidelity, correct color -- as close to a picture as possible. Pored
through thousands of images to combine extisting image and artistic
vision to create Tali's face "

Okay, using source material. Like the Samara and Miranda models where you made a 3D image of their faces and imported them into Mass Efffect? No, instead you used a stock photograph and photoshopped it. This is why were unhappy with this. Instead of doing what you always did, which was model your characters off of people where it was artistictly available to do so (Shepard, Miranda, Samara etc.) you found a picture, changed the coloring on it and photoshopped the actress in it to look alien.

One of the reasons we're unhappy is the "job half finished" attitude we are getting from you. What you should have done is found the model, used the same 3D imaging software you used before and copied her face. Then adjusted it in game and then you should have made the picture which would have been fine!

The whole thing is such a cop-out.

Tali's face, the stargazer scene with the desktop wallpaper, the entire ending...all show signs of incredible laziness and being rushed. I blame EA for this, but also blame Bioware for not growing some balls and being honest. Instead, they hide behind this BS and "artistic integrity". The way they are handling this, by being vague as hell around every corner...shows they have no integrity.

Or, you know, put a bit of effort into making a unique design like they do with the Turians and Krogan.

Make it look like they're the developers with the talent, and not some mooks that two dozen fans on deviantART can outclass.

the sad part is that they went through all the effort to put in Jessica Chobot/Snooki's mug in the game but didn't do so for one of the most beloved and iconic character of the game.

I'd be perfectly happy with Allers having a 3d model of a paper bag for a head in exchange for Tali's face to be in game, animations and all.

The hand people. How can they say anything about artistic vision if they got their own "art" wrong? Quarian's hand has three separated fingers. They just cut a human hand and voilá! Quarian hand.

Oh, but this is nitpicking, right Bioware? Posted Image

Might have easier and better if BW had made a model of the voice actress's face, instead of poring over "thousands of images".

I actually read about this. They said something along the lines of wanting to make Tali look good and that a 3D model wasn't good enough for what they wanted to do so they did a photograph. They also said they sifted through thousands of stock photographs and that they use them all the time.

To be honest, I really don't care. I don't see why every single question needs to be answered. The same reason I don't think we need to know where the reapers came from.

Maybe I am seeing it differently though.

The thing with Tali (IMO) is that so many people wanted her to be attractive. Now that is different things to different people, but I think to most of us that means something relatively human looking.

Or, you could just quit complaining about it. I happen to like what they did with Tali's face, and it isn't going to change.

All of these people just wanted her modeled in-game. Nothing you can say Delta095 will make them realize that there's nothing wrong with the picture.

Very true, They made a big dead at PAX about how the characters were sourced from the actors. They even had one of the ators there dressed up as her character, Semara. So why didn't they do the same for Tali? They paid nothing for the common domain image they used. Doubt they'd have had to pay for a picture of their own actor. They had to change the image anyway so no nominal cost diffrence there to pay for time, resources and effort to do so.

So was this them running out of time (I really can't call people that made the rest of the game that great, minus ending, lazy) or was the cost REALLY that big a diffrence?

Their reasoning is flawed, since they didn't hire an actress to play Tali and THEN photoshop her face. It was some random pic off the internet. We could argue whether or not it was a good idea to show her face in the first place, but the point is that it was a cheap photoshop of some random model NOT any attached to Tali in the first place.

Of course this issue got swept under the rug with the royally FUBAR ending we got. At this point what does it matter what she looks like, she's stranded on Gilligan's Planet using Joker's seed to repopulate the planet. Ugh...

They stole a picture, did a few minutes of edits on it. Then they lied about looking at thousands of pictures for the one to steal.

It's not integrity if they stole their material. Just saying.

She doesn't even look alien. I've seen more alien-looking miscarriages.
All they did was cut the hand in half, make the eyes white and added a few black lines.

That's it.

That's the big reveal.

You can't possibly defend this.

There is no artistic integrity when it come to any of this. Its pure laziness and shows just how much some companies are trying to pull fast ones and cutting corners more and more on things THEY think most will not care about. You cant make a series of games like this that in my opinion has potential to be SOOOOO much more. Dare I say Great movies and Cartoons... as well as many more games...And not expect to gain a large fan base that will gladly follow EVERYTHING Mass Effect and then think those very fans will not care about cutting corners and be okay with every **** up being called ARTISTIC INTEGRITY.
