They even had one of the ators there dressed up as her character, Semara.

I just wanted to clarify that it was Rana McNear's initiative to do so and for an absolutely great cause to boot.  Just wanted to make sure she gets full credit for the idea.

i dont mind tali face bein from a stock image....the fact that it wasnt rendered on her in game character was a huge disapointment however

Agreed. I even liked the photo - it's undetailed as hell - but still sort of nice.
BW is just being lazy, they gave a stupid ass worthless **** form IGN (allers) a in-game model, did not make it for Tali.
Guess what? Are we supposed to give ME3 good rewievs to get Talis face model in game?

Greedy, lazy bastards.

The way I see it, they'd never have been able to live up to everyone's expectations for how Tali should look. People who romanced her especially take issue with this but everyone's ideas on what fits her personality, what looks like her, or whatever are going to differ. We've had three games to wonder what she looks like under that mask and it's unsurprising that her actual appearance is anticlimactic or disappointing. So they took a stock photo of a real model and used it. Newsflash, they basically did the same for male Shepard, Miranda, Liara, the Illusive Man, Joker and probably many more. They are all based on the appearance of real individuals. Some of whom actually voice the characters.

I fail to see the difference beyond the fact that we never saw it modeled in 3D and never in anything beyond this one odd photo that only a few people saw in game.

She could still have a human-like face and have more alien attributes that set her apart from the human race.
Tali has hair.

Or, you know, put a bit of effort into making a unique design like they do with the Turians and Krogan.

The thing with Tali (IMO) is that so many people wanted her to be attractive. Now that is different things to different people, but I think to most of us that means something relatively human looking.

Tali wasn't attractive the way Miranda was attractive. Miranda was genetically engineered to be a bombshell so she could use her sexuality to her advantage in negotiations and whatnot. Tali was had that naive, innocent kind of cuteness going for her. She didn't need to be perfect. Just not hideous and people probably would have fallen over themselves praising BioWare for the big reveal.

And if BioWare was really worried about pissing people off, they shouldn't have revealed anything. Keep the fans in the dark entirely. They are pretty fond of speculation already. But BioWare chose to give Tali a face. Why not render it in a single cutscene? Once her face was chosen, the point off attractive" meaning different things to different people" was done away with in its entirety. Were the purse strings really so tight that a poorly doen Photoshop was the only options? I though the game sold like 2 million copies in the first week, the money seems like it should have been there.

We really need a *sigh* emote.

I wish I could throw Allers out of the airlock. So many resources wasted in a useless character that could sure be put to good use, like modeling Tali, a real character of the ME series. But what is done is done, the photo won't change, we are never going to speak face to face with Tali, and we are not going to get a new ending, as this Ext Cut looks more like a "shut up" than a way of clarify the atual endings.

One thing I didn't get was this: Bioware stated that the reason it was hard to give Tali a face was because fans had made their own ideas as to what she looked like. So couldn't they have done a contest to decide Tali's face?

Ask for submissions, then do a community vote, the winners picture gets featured in the game. I think it might have been better than a badly photoshopped stock photo.

That's common method copy-paste. I'd rather Tali's face wasn't revealed than this pathetic effort.

The whole thing is such a cop-out.

Tali's face, the stargazer scene with the desktop wallpaper, the entire ending...all show signs of incredible laziness and being rushed. I blame EA for this, but also blame Bioware for not growing some balls and being honest. Instead, they hide behind this BS and "artistic integrity". The way they are handling this, by being vague as hell around every corner...shows they have no integrity.

Desktop wallpaper?? I hadnt heard about this.  Did they just use a wallpaper or something?

it seems like based on their comments on the issue at pax, bioware doesn't even understand why fans were upset with how they handled the revealing of tali's face.

(and for the record, i was completely satisfied by their explanation for just about everything else at pax.)

that is the difference. not showing her rendered in game was lame as hell, it was honestly one of the things i was looking forward to most. the picture was a nice moment, sure. so we know what she actually looks like, just not rendered on her in game model. smacks of laziness and budget cuts to me. the scene on rannoch would have been amazingly powerfull for anyone taking her as a LI if that was the first time we, as a player, saw her face.

would some fans have been disapointed? sure, i imagine so, but no more so than how she looks in the picture we got instead.

theyd have gotten over it. some of the tali fans never bothered to read the codex where it states quarians are rather human looking. some of the fan art ive seen of her was....special. so they would have had no grounds for complaint on that issue

Like has been mentioned. A three game character got a sloppy Photoshop and Jessica Chobot got the full treatment for a basically poorly executed cameo role that no-one really ever wanted.

Looking through ME3 after more than one play through, its a game that smells of poorly managed priorities.

I could have been tolerable of the photo if they had at least done the fingers right. That just smacks of laziness even more than the fact that it's a stock photo.

She still has half her third knuckle in the photo. This **** is the definition of lazy. I get the feeling you're one of those people for whom Bioware could have taken a dump in a box and sold for 60 bucks and you would have liked the game.

Ya know, here is my 2 cents on this one,

It should have either been done right or not at all.

Either do it in the game, take the time to make it worth something and interesting. Or dont do it and save it for DLC if there was some outcry for it.

I get there is limited time in production schedules and what not, and thats fine, but if all you are going to do is take a random picture and not generate the image in the game, well that just seems a cop out on something that wasn't needed. There was something plenty could have speculated on for years and been fine with, or it could have been done by a small team or one person later for some random DLC down the road. The photoshop stock image does feel a little cheap to me, and unfortunent. But hey, what do I know.

Adam Baldwin deserves a better ending!

I read interview (and I wish I could find it now but it seems to be buried under discussion/hate of the photoshop) where someone from BioWare said they hoped to never show Tali's face, since it could not live up to what people's expectations were.

And I could have accepted it if they had stuck to that idea.

Instead of sticking to the "not going to" statement, or doing it right with a 3D model, they went with the cop-out, a photoshop of a stock photo. Guaranteed to upset both sides. Absolutely no logical reason to do it that way.

Adding insult to injury, there is a scene in the game where quarians are shown before being forced off their homeworld, and they have to make a lame excuse for why they are shown in environmental suits. This would have been a perfect chance to make additional use a 3D model.

Worst of all, for some reason they decided that it was more important to add a new face-captured character that no one has any connection to (Allers) instead of creating a model for a character that has been a major part of all three games.

I don't have anything against the Allers character, although she didn't add anything to the game for me, but to put her in and ignore Tali is a deeply questionable decision, in my opinion.

So looking at the picture above. What was changed to it in the game?

Her hand - they just cut the right 2 fingers (ring and pinky) off of it. It doesn't even resemble a Quarian hand either. Only in general shape.

Marks on her face/body - What are these? The supposed cybernetics used to interface with their suits? Tribal markings? Tattoos?

Pupils - What happened here? They "glow" but we have no real fining eye to see except for some minor glow. Where is the retina?

Face and Nose adjustments - Shortened nostrils and adjustment to cheeks does not constitute a drastic change.

Purple Light filter - This picture, if she survives is supposedly taken on Rannoch. Rannoch didn't have some weird spectrum of purple light. It looked similar to the American Southwest. So where does the purple light filter come from? Oh, because we'd be able to more clearly make out the horrible photoshop work you did.

The photoshop job on Tali's hand was absolutely horrendous. And I think that everyone would've rather had a face for Tali rendered, and not Dianna Allers.

Yeah, Bioware practically said: "We will make the most crappy photoshop job possible and you will eat it!". And well, they got that right, plenty of people ate and enjoyed it.

I wonder.. Would it really be so difficult for them to modify the Rannoch ending cutscene for Tali's sake? You know, make an actual "we made a 3d model face based off a real person" for when she takes off her mask, so she can turn towards Shepard and you can see it?

Not that hard, right? It's pretty... foolhardy to keep expecting us to believe the photoshopped photo was Hudson's true "artistic vision."

Out of all the excuses I've ever heard, that one sounds the most to me like a little kid fumbling around to cover up the fact he got caught with his hand in the cookie jar.

It's not like the shareholders will get angry if they fix Tali's face. I'm sure they don't care about that. So just say, "Hey, I'm sorry, this over here was actually my artistic vision, but we couldn't decide on a good way to do it until after it was released. Sorry. Our bad. Here's a free DLC to give her a real in-game face!"

I didn't have a problem with Tali's picture myself, I'd always imagined her to have a human like face from the little you can make out behind the mask albeit with very pale skin & eye glow. The picture worked for me so I didn't mind that it was a photoshop. I'd have liked it if they could've based her on Liz Sroker and done a proper character model and reveal, but TBH if I had the inclination to complain online this would be way down on the list....
