And if you want to use a Photoshopped stock photo, they could at least have had the decency to find one without lens flare and not intentionally made it worse.

One thing I didn't get was this: Bioware stated that the reason it was hard to give Tali a face was because fans had made their own ideas as to what she looked like. So couldn't they have done a contest to decide Tali's face?

Ask for submissions, then do a community vote, the winners picture gets featured in the game. I think it might have been better than a badly photoshopped stock photo.

Great idea on the tali face contest idea. I mean they did it for a new updated fem-shep after all.

Tali refused to lick a PSP, so they decided not to give her a face.

Make her face visible after made peace with Quarians/Geth, but only if she is LI. Also show her face before Cerberus mission base when she goes to SHeps cabin

The way I see it, they'd never have been able to live up to everyone's expectations for how Tali should look.

And yet they showed us how she looks. That argument makes no sense, I'm sorry.

I'm actually more insulted by the claims that it's high-quality work. Nevermind that the technical aspects are just bad, the hand is plain wrong compared to what we see in the game. Anyone who's actually done photo-retouching (or heaven-forbid, painting and drawing) can see it's an effort-light attempt.

Her appearance doesn't fit her voice, in my opinion, but that's just my opinion in the end.

And I just hate hate hate the PR spin being put on it by their statements at the PAX panel. Just ugh.

All the questions and answers at PAX were screened anyways.  That's why they never got asked anything actually tough or that people have been bringing up about the game.

She doesn't even look alien. I've seen more alien-looking miscarriages.
All they did was cut the hand in half, make the eyes white and added a few black lines.

That's it.

That's the big reveal.

You can't possibly defend this.

Now, now, be fair. They changed the color and tweaked the ear and nose a little too.:P

In seriousness, I think a picture was the wrong way to do it, but I don't hate the picture. The asaris' faces are just as human. It's the luscious hair that really gets to me. Just doesn't seem right for Quarians to have hair like that under their helmets...

Someone got it right. If they were just going to rip a photo off the internet...why not post a fan poll. No results known of who's winning or anything and the reveal would be in game. Done. You have your "stock photo", you have a fan-base chosen decision (would have gain immense kudos, like you were listening to the fans). If it's copyright you worry about, then have fans submit their own and have a vote. If you were going to create your own, that is one thing, but to Google, cut, paste, Photoshop, finished! is so......meh....it is what it is

i think her face fits her voice just fine. i woulda been fine with just about anything they put in for her face as long as it followed their own codex entries and not some of the wacky fan art where people think shes a starfish or some such.

tali was my favorite character from just about the moment she was introduced, i really doubt there is anyway they could have disapointed me in how she looks. they did, however, manage to disapoint me in the way in which it was revealed, when there were at least 2 great chances in the game to reveal it with a full blown character rendered.

i will say that tali leaving shep a picture was a sweet and tender moment and gesture...but it still would have been exactly that even if we had a full reveal. she is giving shep a picture of herself because she knows he cant see her often outside of her suit.

so glad i was never concerned about how the quarians were gonna look. i feel bad for all the talimancers. i cant beleive bioware put so much effort into keeping tali as a squadmate in all 3 games larger because of the fans, THEN put out a pathetic taliface like that.

ive seen numerouse AWESOME fan made tali cencepts, THAT ARE AWESOME. biowares attempt at creating talis face took no longer then 37 seconds.

numerouse words come to mind thinking aobut talis face.....pathetic, weak, lazy, lack of effort, boring, basic........all bad words i wouldnt want my fans to think about my product.

i honeslty dont care for tali, but id honestly say shipping ME3 with something like that is a major fail. and i NEVER use the word fail. its the only word that comes to mind. id have pushed the game back SOLELY because of that fact.

if you arent done with talis face, then you arent done with ME3. RIGHT?!?!?!?

im ranting here......i cant beleive not ONE developer, since they created tali even before ME1 was released, didnt do a damn thing about talis photoshoped face. theres not one employee at bioware that didnt make a cool concept of tali. can i see some taliface concept art? i mean did they even try??????

damnit, i dont even care about tali! and its so easy to rage about it.

Fan based polls arent good for massive market games. Some picture will ALWAYS win and many will hate it. Its better that game company chooses pictures etc... So we are all equal, you please all or none of them, not just some people.

I'd hate to see some fan polls where that Star Fish face would win, no offence intended to anybody who likes it for some reason ;)

I think they should keep the quarian faces (remember lads there is more than one quarian in the galaxy!) hidden.

It's fun to speculate! We know they wont be supper good looking becose they're an odd physical shape AND we know they have cybernetic implants, So much so that Harbinger says about Tali:
“Quarian; considered due to cybernetic augmentation, weakened immune system too debilitating.”

lets just keep guessing. You know more than 50% of people will be unhappy with what ever face they slap onher anyway.

It's not just a matter of whiney fans wanting a fully rendered model. I'd have been perfectly happy with the photo reveal---in fact I was quite keen on the idea---had they put the effort into painting their own picture. BioWare's got a great team of artists. It wouldn't have taken them 5 minutes to do something completely from scratch. That disappoints me more than anything. The hand though is the worst offending thing about it.

It bugs me that BioWare claimed at PAX that they felt it was the most "tasteful" way to go about it. Theer's nothing tasteful about photomanipulating a stock image when you have the full potential to do something original. A photo isn't a comlpex 3D model. As a texture slapped on a cube, they could have come up with something really neat.

Sorry but it looks like a 5 minute photoshop job. Add another 5 minutes to google up an image.

Everything near the ending screams must meet schedule.

I guess the photo wouldn't have been so bad, but as my film director friend has said to me, "There are so many creative ways they could have revealed her face. Makes me wanna scratch off my own face that they went with the most boring option in the universe."

OK, but you do understand that they showed her face, right? So the cat's out of the bag.

Maybe they should've kept it hidden, but they didn't. At that point, there's no reason (artistic or otherwise) to leave it unrendered.

I've said it time and again that I thought it was a bad idea to move away from their concept art and make quarians exactly like humans instead of similar to humans, but since they did it, at least do it right!

Edit: if they wanted to do it as more of a mystery, you know what would have been awesome? Showing it as a reflection on the inside of her visor.

The true problem stems from using the 3D imaging technology to give us that stupid reporter and not give us one of the series most beloved characters whether you romanced her or not. If they had done this not only could they have still made the picture but they could have used the same model in other portions of the game which also had cop-outs. Also, it makes no sense to keep her face tied only to a picture when she removes her mask on Rannoch. That was a perfect scene to see her face!

What a great n brilliant surprise, I tried to imagine her face countless of times, but this was beyond my imagination - a bad shop of some stock photo, of course! That's why I romanced Tali for 2 games n played with her in my squad for 3 games, to be able to witness this amazing manifestation of artistic integrity!

Should I send a golden troll award to Casey or Mac?

They put in a useless reporter but couldn't do Tali what she deserved.

Just like with the reaper motivations, if that's the best thing you can come up with, it's better to keep it a mystery.
