The way they handled Tali's face annoyed me more than anything else in the game, and I'm not even a Talimancer. Seeing them once again cop out and pull back the camera as she opened her faceplate made me cringe with disappointment and anger. They built the perfect moment for her to finally reveal herself to the player at the end of the Rannoch arc and they blew it. Tossed in a lazy shoop as a consolation slap to the face. As far as I'm concerned, we still don't know what she looks like.

Yeah, I'm with you 100% on this. Even though I was never really interested in romancing her, she was a solid character and not only a valued crewmember but a good friend to my Shep. She deserved better from BioWare.

All this one was disappointed about was it was not an in-game model. The fact we got something is fine, even if it was a modified stock photo. This one expected her to look human first off, and second can understand why they used a stock photo. they had a schedule to keep, they had a lot of designs and had to pick one. So not complaining, it seems like nit-picking more than anything else

"Nitpicky" would be correct....iiifff BioWare hadn't hidden behind their "Artistic Integrity"

sigh. I dont know. Coming up with a face for the quarians is tricky business. I guess Bioware just decided that showing what she looked like in a small, blurry, lens flared photograph would be the best way to go.

still, Bioware created an entirely new species, the YAHG, in DLC. They modeled the shadowbroker's face in game as well, and hell, he probably has the most complicated face of any of mass effect character.

It still doesnt make sense to me why they didnt model Tali's face. I guess they just thought it would be too risky.

I agree, and if you don't like this one.. make better. It takes a considerable amount of skill, real to god artistic ability to make something like this. This was the artists vision of what was under the mask. You don't have to like it ;p

This really does fall into artistic integrity.  

its not that its bad, because its not...it just doesnt fit the codex entry that states "Quarian facial structure and hair actually makes them the most similar to humans in physical appearance" . seems alot of tali lovers completly disregard that for some reason. we have enough exotic looking alien races, nothing wrong with quarians being more human looking

I don't understand why they did this either. I mean, seriously, they have a very pretty voice actor (Ash Sroka, for those of you who don't know) already playing Tali, why not base the image off of her? It'd be easy enough to go out somewhere, take a picture, and shop it instead of shopping a stock photo. It would've taken a couple days at most and no more than a couple hundred bucks and I would honestly be much more ok with that. But taking an image off the goddamned internet and using it? Pure, unadulterated laziness, and there's no excuse for it.




Seriously, why not use what you already have BioWare?

I'm happy with the face they chose, not-so-happy about the way they handled it..

I'm more shocked about the fact that they put more effort into creating Diana Allers, the most pointless character ever, as opposed to giving Tali, one of the most loved characters in the franchise, a properly rendered face. I'll never understand that...

There's a big difference between looking similar to humans and being exactly the same (and it's even odder when their legs, hands, and feet very definitely aren't the same). And the effort put into the Photoshopping wasn't very good either.

Story-wise having such a photo actually makes a great deal of sense - a picture of her, on her homeworld, without the suit, would be a really touching gift. It was a good idea, just not a good idea for the reveal.

Well at PAX they outright said tali and garrus are their favorite squadmates, then immediately back tracked and said they don't have favorites, but after everything else they said at PAX idk what to think.

This is the one that I think was just a disaster. I don't find the PAX response on this issue to make much sense.

I've said it elsewhere. Have a fan contest to redesign Tali's face. The modding community is already going to do it. All they'd be doing is ensuring the PC community isn't the only one where it's fixed. This seems like one of the easiest things to do. They could even outsource running the contest to Retake Mass Effect so they didn't have to spend much time/web work.

That raises a question - there was lots of curiosity about Tali's appearance, and quarians in general. I don't recall much speculation at all about the volus. You humans are all racist!

Because seeing her face to face, probably on Rannoch, would've been a very nice way to reveal her face. Worth doing when there was bound to be criticism no matter what they did? Probably not.

Blast I can't find the link but I recall seeing a poll with the purple tali on this page in the lead and the other popular one (where she has the helmet on but mask off) in second. I think that's one of the only polls I've seen regarding her face tho.

I'd also like to add that it was just a bad decision artistic (maybe not financially) not to show the Quarians on their homeworld, taking off their masks for the first time.

You already used the face of the voice actor for many characters in game.

Yet you spent time to search for an appropriate picture on the internet database (or so you claim), then photoshop it, even knowing someday a fan would find the picture.... I mean, it looks like almost intended to me.

I have no problems with using a stock image, not rendering in-game. What gets me is that it looks so rushed. At most, spent maybe an hour or two blacking out the clothing, getting rid of two fingers, etc. Diane Allers vs this, sigh.

Yes, that's what I meant. No one cares about how Volus look, because to a human eye, their bodies do not look attractive. Also there are no Volus squad mates and not Volus LIs, so whyy wouldwe care about them. I personally would like to see a Volus face, but prefer to see Tali's face for the obvious reasons that she is your squad mate, friend, companion, love interest with a cute personality and a smooth, attractive shaped body.

Alright, I'm going to say here that Ash Sroka is cute and whatever, but she doesn't necessarely have to be Tali. She's just Tali's voice. I see it in most threads about Tali's face (which pop about every day) and it doesn't make much sense.

Bioware has chosen that Tali looks like the picture they've given us, then fine, that's the canon and the way to go. Let's respect that. Besides, I believe it's fitting, My problem is, like the OP's, that we'd like to see a 3D model IG, and Bioware had the perfect chance to show us her face in Rannoch, and the opportunity was missed. Probably it was even planned, but they ran out of time/budget. That scene is just too perfectly set up to reveal Tali's face, but it just doesn't happen.

I found interesting the complains about quarians looking like humans. As I am aware the humans came to the galatic community later them the other races, so we are the ones who looks like a quarian

But talking serious, I could live perfectly with a human alike face more than I would with this concept you guys are posting (to be honest I don't like this even a little). What kill the intention of putting a face on Tali is how poorly it was done, god, when I reached the final of the Rannoch mission I was so excited to see if we would finally see her face, it would be for sure one of the best moments of the serie. And when Tali was going to remove her mask and I almost could see it... the camera turns back and later she gave us the bad photoshopped stock photo and the excitement turns to rage on how lazy Bioware was with such an important moment of the entire serie that could be brilliant done in so many ways.

That, with the fact we have a 3D model to that retarded chick that I don't even knew where the hell she had came from but for some reason was more important to have a character full developed model while a beloved five years character don't only makes things worse.

We understand.  If you can talk to someone that is though, maybe raise the question of why BioWare would spend the energy & time to craft Diana Allers' face but not Tali, an arguably more important character.
