It is an odd choice given how many talented artists work for BioWare. Aren't there even concept sketches for what quarians look like under their suits?

You mean this.....?

Third row, far left would have been the best choice for Quarians face if you ask me. :P

...what is that pig even doing there?

Really though, if it werent for the FUBAR ending I think this would be the main source of complaint. And I agree with question asked few posts above: Why Bioware didnt use something which they practically already had? Sroka is pretty nice looking, all Bioware could have done is make an alien version of her and I doubt anybody would complain about it.

Oh well...

Alright, I'm going to say here that Ash Sroka is cute and whatever, but she doesn't necessarely have to be Tali. She's just Tali's voice. I see it in most threads about Tali's face (which pop about every day) and it doesn't make much sense.

Bioware has chosen that Tali looks like the picture they've given us, then fine, that's the canon and the way to go. Let's respect that. Besides, I believe it's fitting, My problem is, like the OP's, that we'd like to see a 3D model IG, and Bioware had the perfect chance to show us her face in Rannoch, and the opportunity was missed. Probably it was even planned, but they ran out of time/budget. That scene is just too perfectly set up to reveal Tali's face, but it just doesn't happen.

I think they should have used either Sroka's face or something completely original. An actor of a movie also is not the character he play, he just represents him. So Sroka would just represent Tali, obviously not be her.

That aside, I think I would have accepted any look Bioware would have given her if they made the effort to create an ingame 3d model! It wouldn't have mattered to me if it was more human or alien looking. I sure have my preferences, but I would have accepted everything.

Why not just reveal her on Rannoch and after that, you ca just call her into your cabin, like in ME2, just with the difference that she has her helmet off, since she adapted to Shepard's body. Easy, right?

i dont mind tali face bein from a stock image....the fact that it wasnt rendered on her in game character was a huge disapointment however

I agree with this ^^. That and the fact that the photoshop job itself seemed poorly done.

its not that its bad, because its not...it just doesnt fit the codex entry that states "Quarian facial structure and hair actually makes them the most similar to humans in physical appearance" . seems alot of tali lovers completly disregard that for some reason. we have enough exotic looking alien races, nothing wrong with quarians being more human looking

There's a big difference between looking similar to humans and being exactly the same (and it's even odder when their legs, hands, and feet very definitely aren't the same). And the effort put into the Photoshopping wasn't very good either.

Story-wise having such a photo actually makes a great deal of sense - a picture of her, on her homeworld, without the suit, would be a really touching gift. It was a good idea, just not a good idea for the reveal.

the starfish face is a far cry from human looking tho. asari look way more human than that does imo, so it doesnt fit with what little in game description we have. i agree the photo is quite touching. and it still would have been even if we had seen her face on rannoch. so i think we agree there it just wasnt a good idea for the reveal

Wherever bioware decides to go from this point, I sure hope they know what they're doing. I used to be able to trust them with making things epic but after this face fail, and the whole ending thing, I'm starting to second guess here. Like wrex would say: Help me out here shepard, the line between friend and foe is getting a little blurry.

Oh btw I think they're going to address tali's face:

I suppose it was also the initiative of the woman from the stockphoto picture to give it to you so that it can be photoshopped and present it to us as picture of Tali, right? Give me a fricking break... Douchebags...

The stock photo was is what called Public Domain. Pretty much it means that it's up for anyone to do anything that want with it, no copywrite on it. Now once they alter the image THAT altered image can fall under a copywrite. To do this you need the artist to have intentially put in Public Domain (kind of buy not exactly like Linux and Unix) or for the copywrite to run out... Which is lifetime of the copywrite holder plus 75 years(thank Disney for this one).

There was a case in St Charles, MO where a family's picture which was posted to a photo sharing site was used in a grocery store advertisement in Poland I think. It was pulled rather cause a copywrite lawsuit fight.

Quarians are space elves. I'm OK with this. I'm not okay with the HAIR. While it's very pretty, and I'd love to run my fingers through it ... but I... I mean, wouldn't that ITCH?

It's just the half-assedness of it and the lack of common sense that bugs me. I'm not even all that big of a Tali fan and it still pisses me off.

One of two things should have happened: They should have either bit the bullet and taken her helmet off, giving her a few lines where we see her face, or just not shown her at all. It wouldn't have made everyone happy, but everyone would have gotten it.

But this? I don't even know what the hell was going through their heads when they thought this up. "We're gonna make everyone KINDA happy?"

That kind of thinking has only ever worked twice: "Never," and "The day AFTER never."

"the sad part is that they went through all the effort to put in Jessica Chobot/Snooki's mug in the game but didn't do so for one of the most beloved and iconic character of the game.

I'd be perfectly happy with Allers having a 3d model of a paper bag for a head in exchange for Tali's face to be in game, animations and all."

This quote is genius. I completely agree.

I know, right?! And I'm a Tali fan, so this thing hurt me when I saw the photo... but it wore off quickly after I'd seen the ending.

What ticks me off is that they gave Allers an ingame 3D model, but not Tali? seriously?

I caught the live blog from Kotaku about the Bioware Pax panel and I was not impressed to their answer when they brough up Tali's face. Specifically:

"2.) We often use source material, source art,
for MANY things withing the game -- wanted it to be photorealistic, high
fidelity, correct color -- as close to a picture as possible. Pored
through thousands of images to combine extisting image and artistic
vision to create Tali's face "

Okay, using source material. Like the Samara and Miranda models where you made a 3D image of their faces and imported them into Mass Efffect? No, instead you used a stock photograph and photoshopped it. This is why were unhappy with this. Instead of doing what you always did, which was model your characters off of people where it was artistictly available to do so (Shepard, Miranda, Samara etc.) you found a picture, changed the coloring on it and photoshopped the actress in it to look alien.

One of the reasons we're unhappy is the "job half finished" attitude we are getting from you. What you should have done is found the model, used the same 3D imaging software you used before and copied her face. Then adjusted it in game and then you should have made the picture which would have been fine!

Better yet, what they should have done was let us see her face when she pulled her mask off on Rannok (sp?) and scrap the whole photo BS.

theres nothing wrong with the photo in and of itself. its a touching gesture from Tali. i dont imagine there are alot of pictures of quarians in setting suns around considering their limitations. it just wasnt the right place for the reveal

All we can do is wait at this point for extended cut DLC to see what it has.

Talk is cheap bioware, so are photoshops. Wow us one more time!

Lol, that's great. To repeat what others have said, while I don't love the Quarian concept they introduced with the picture, I also don't hate it. I just wish they weren't so lazy, and that they would have made a 3d model for the scene on Rannoch, or if they would have just left it a complete mystery. Also, to the people wanting Tali's Voice Actor to be the face model, while I completely agree with you, Bioware didn't do this becaue they then would have had to pay her, instead of just using a free stock image. :/

About the twit, that's the standard response they give to everything in there. You can probably twit that you'd like to see keeper's poo around the Citadel and that it should be green colored with orange spots and they'll respond "Thanks for the suggestion! We will past this along to the dev team."

Here's hoping they'll really do something about it, though.

Sorry, but where the hell is this mythical "Artistic Vision," you mentioned? You 'shopped some purple lines on a human's neck and forehead, poured white-out on her eyes, and cut two of her fingers off.

If this is your new version of "Artistic Vision," what's your next title going to be? A "Sandbox," style game where all you do is literally play with sand in a box?
